Non oily prata - milo dinosaur
May 13, 2007Everytime I crave for prata I always end up here. In the prata wars, there are now so many different versions, that I think this one needs to be reviewed.
I've eaten at casurina curry prata store for what must be over 20 years now. It has a distinctve, rich, oily, flaky taste, which absorbs the curry well, and its why they are now one of the most well loved prata places in Singapore. But think of all the fat, the unhealthiness, and you wonder, is there an alternative?
This place has much lighter, less oily pratas, which have therefore become my favourite. They do try crazy things like the cheese prata, which surprisingly is great, and other things like savoury pratas and chocolate ones too. But for me, I'm a traditionalist, and so I stick to the real thing.
Try the milo dinosaur - A mixture of sweet milo will more milo powder on top. If that does not get your insulin levels peaking as your body fights to lower the blood sugar levels, I don't know what will.
Open 24 hours, great illegal parking spots as well....Must Tries

The place for Cheese Prata
Aug 10, 2007While many shops serve cheese prata, this is the only prata place that uses the correct cheese - mozzarella cheese to make their prata. This means that the cheese stretches out from the center of the prata when you cut off a piece. It also has a stronger taste and goes very well with the curries that they serve. Expanded from one shoplot to two in the past 2-3 years. Prosperous proprietor.
Reservation: No need, gets crowded late at night. Place to meet NUS students if you want to mix with this crowd. They migrate to this shop later at night. Parking is OK, so long as you park on the opposite side of the shop where there is free parking after 7pm (singel yellow line). Careful of cops, they issue tickets for parking on the shop side readily.
Food / Beverage: Prata, fried noodles, bee hon (not so tasty), egg prata, kosing, curries, chicken etc. Most are tasty. Great tea, coffee and horlicks with ginger.
Ambience: Hot, smelly with exhaust gases, garbage from the rubbish bins nearby all add to the ambience. Wonder if it makes up for the food they serve.
Value: V good, low prices, good food.
Service: Takes orders from you at the table, haven't got my order wrong at all although each orders differently eg teh kosong, teh tarik with ginger, coffee "O", horlicks, and Milo. All correctly served.Must Tries

prataaa!
Jun 11, 2008I am biased for this place simply because I graduated from NUS and stayed on campus throughout. Together with its close neighbour Fong Seng nasi lemak, this place has fattened me up quite a bit! From 3 am supper while pulling an all-night furious paper writing to having it when stuck on campus on weekends .. prata and nasi lemak is the solution to all my life's troubles then hahahaha...
Such, even until now, I still like the cheese prata here best. Try all sorts of combination that you like from your pizza such as cheese mushroom, or cheese onion. For those who like their prata sweet, the banana prata is good too.
Top it up with a milo dinosaur, and watch the scale tips a bit the day after =)Must Tries

You Can't Go Wrong With The Cheese Prata Shop
Nov 13, 2009For a snack or quick lunch, just pop into Niqqi's The Cheese Prata Shop, order your cheese prata, and a lime juice for lubrication, and subsequently slip - tummy-rubbingly satisfied - away into the suburban sunshine of Clementi Road.
Look, this is an open-fronted restaurant on a main road that is a stone's throw from the gate to Pasir Panjang Container Terminal so don't expect anything fancy. I've given the restaurant a reasonable 6 for ambiance because everyone seems to enjoy themselves when they eat here, that they're getting what they want, and not because of the occasional rumble of a passing container lorry. Expect a clean, simple café-type establishment with prompt service that serves crackingly-good cheese prata.
Mr. Creosote says: "Just go!"

Saturday Morning
Nov 2, 2009My family and I visited this place on a Saturday morning. Firstly, legal parking is not free at $1.00 per half hour at a location 5 mins-walk away. Illegal parking, however,is right in front of this shop.
We had quite a peaceful breakfast as there weren't many patrons. Many families there, a few couples and some cyclists. No students that early, yet. Service was good. Prompt order-taking and food and beverage serving.
I ordered maggie goreng,a tad salty that day, but just the way I like - nicely dry and tasty. I always order maggie goreng when I come here. Wished it had been more spicy. It looked hellisly red but it's not fiery. My mom and sister ordered pratas - egg onion and cheese mushroom. The egg & onion was not bad - it was plump and chewy. Onion filling was well fried and still juicy. Cheese and mushroom was quite flattened and drier, maybe cos of the cheese. But cheese filling was generous.
My dad had mee kuah (yellow noodles with spicy gravy). It could have been nice, if they had used the red mutton gravy, but it wasn't. Quite disappointed with it. I think the one in Haig Road food centre is way better - tastier, a little sweeter and more spicy!
I like the teh halia (ginger tea) best! The tea was of the right sweetness and thickness (it's not your mild tea taste). Not to mention, the amount of ginger taste was appropriate. It didn't sting! Definitely Oooomph-worthy!
Overall,it was passable. A variety of food and beverages are offered -prata, roti john, noodles, rice, bubble teas, milkshakes etc. It is no wonder why students enjoy eating at this place - food wise, the prata's worth the price. I find the noodles pricy though. $3 for maggie goreng and $4.50 for mee kuah. The servings were not big. Don't get me started on the interior. It's very fuss-free ambience. However, the surrounding is so laid-back, I'd reccomend this place for breakfast and supper. It's 24 hours!Must Tries

Did not live up to expectations
Mar 7, 2009I'm an NUS student, but since I live very far away, I am always very eager to rush home right after school. Finally decided to try the famous cheese prata shop that everyone was raving about...
Sadly I decided prata is not a good choice for dinner, so i ordered the maggi goreng instead. very disappointing, i didn't like it at all. My friend ordered the chicken rice, also nothing to shout about. The tables also look quite oily =/ haha sorry but i do choose where to eat based on cleanliness. no points for ambience as well.
I must say though, the portions were quite generous. Must also admit this might not be the best review since I did not try the prata... not worth a special trip, but maybe can go if you're really starving late at night, since it's 24 hours, and not counting calories.I also recommend this place for

=D
Jun 10, 2008The only reason why I want to study hard --- I want to enter NUS, have pratas everyday for tea before going home!
The pratas there are not crispy, but at least creative. And service, drinks, ambience are all decent. I like it.
First, the Milo Dinosaur is simply the daily boost to start working more.Second, the cheese prata is... simply... awesome! I like the sweet smell of the cheese! Banana, mushroom... you can try them if you want to, they're equally nice!
I wouldn't mind gain a lot of weight just by eating pratas too=D
I wonder why given the amount of profile views I get, no one ever gave me a 'funny' comment or something like that?Must Tries

good old pratas =D
May 2, 20081 perfect reason why i love the place: it's open 24 hours! =D hahaha. for people like me to pig out especially after night shifts. =D
went there a couple of times. and each time i tried something different la.
friend had the maggie goreng double (similar to mee goreng juz that instead of mee they used maggie mee) and it was a big portion with a sunny side up. i really wondered how he managed to finish it lo. =O had the tissue prata but suprisingly they didn't give any condensed milk or any kinda gravy to go with it. but didn't really enjoy it coz it was waaaaay too sweet. imagine the prata coated in sugar. =X
second time round i finally had my prata kosong and tried the roti john too. the pratas were juz as how i liked them. a bit thick (but not too thick) and crispy on the outside. =D and the gravy was rally good. the roti john wasn't that bad. but juz that i don't like onions so i didn't enjoy it that much.
the latest time i went i had prata koseng again. but with the mutton briyani. i love the briyani! the nasi itself was ok. perhaps juz not as frangrant as what i would've liked it to be. the pieces of mutton were generous. but a tad too overcooked for me. but the gravy!!! whoa. spicy. thick. fragrant. and once you start you really can't stop. *thumbz up* really a must try!
but 1 thing to take note. coz it's very near NUS. so most of the times i went there were really a lot of crowd. but who's to deter me from good and cheap food? =DMust Tries

Happi Family Supper #2!~
Feb 28, 2008
23 Feb 2008 : The Happi Family - AC, 77, NS, CP & JC - decided to have supper here after attending an event at NUS. We were trying to recapture our memories of feeding here when we were growing batty toiling without respite to learn to read, write & count at the nearby educational facility.
We ordered a round of Teh-halia and prata kosong. The Teh-halia was lovely.. but i felt that there was not enough ginger essence.
The prata kosong was rubbery and i did not like it at all. The highlight of supper was the good company and the bunch of laughs... =P
