| Chinese Ala carte Buffet
The interior reminds mi a lil of TCS drama set.. hahaha
Well, dining here is a peaceful affair as not many people patronise here esp weekend. But!! I find it odd as the food here is pretty good. The group of us went for the ala carte buffet. I can't comment much on all the dishes as our main "orderer" ordered mostly shrimp dishes!!!! so that it will be "value for money".. duh.. (o.O)"....
Among what we ordered, the hits were the roast platter, cold platter, ebi fry, drunken prawns, peking duck, 3 treasure spinach, salmon sashimi. Those you can passed would be the sea cucumber in claypot, the white pepper crab, the chilli crab and desserts.
I ate so many prawns that i got indigestion the whole night!!! that explain how yummy the prawns were.. hahah |

| It evens out
well, i was there on 8 nov to celebrate my mommy's birthday.
i wasnt too impressed when the lady who picked up my call when i called to make a reservation sounded impatient when she wanted to know "ala carte, set or buffet". you know how some telemarketeers are. they sound so muffled over the phone so i asked her to repeat it again. she immediately let out a huge sigh as if i just wasted 2 million years of her life "ALA CARTE. SET. OR BUFFET."
i couldnt decide so i told her i will let her know the next day.
anyway, that said, we eventually decided to take the buffet. the mini buddha jump over the wall was a disappointment. but for $39.80++ per person, one shouldnt expect too much. food was generally great. the prawns (cereal prawns and steamed prawns in chinese wine) were fresh and delicious. i thought the steamed crab in chinese wine tasted bland. the chili crab was so-so too. but the fish, the spinach in 3 different eggs, salmon sashimi, and the meat platter were FANTASTIC!
i thought the pigeon soup was good too.
oh yes... when we asked for braised seafood soup, one of the waitress came by suddenly to confirm our order for "sweet and sour seafood soup".
i was a little surprised and doubled confirmed that it should be BRAISED, as indicated in the menu, and not SWEET and SOUR.
she brushed it aside and walked off, even before i finished my sentence!
well, eventually i did clarify with another more patient waitress and she said that they did not serve SWEET and SOUR soup at the restaurant. and yes, the soup is BRAISED. thank god.
well... good food... mediocre service... |

| Noble Dinner
What initially surprised me was how easy I could get parking at UIC Building on a Saturday. No crazy rush, no jostling of crowd. Shenton Way was totally devoid of crowd, and that's what I like.
I was there for a wedding dinner and it was my first time in this restaurant. The interior design tries to bring out the flavour of the 1930s with its shop houses windows. But I thought that what might be more suitable was that the place should be transformed to a chinese palace with its ming vases and all. Oh well, that's my take and the facade did not tarnish my love for the food here.
We had roast suckling pig (Smells too piggy for me, but the skin was nicely crispy). The rest of the dishes were truly delightful.
- Scallops and cuttlefish with vegetable XO sauce
- Prawns with vegetables served with deep-fried prawn rolls
- Sea cucumber and black mushhrooms with luttce in oyster sauce
- Steamed marble goby in Hong Kong style
- Roasted chicken
- Ee-Fu noodles
Two thumbs up! |

| oh what a bliss
was a busy day, my fren's little marriage reception buffet dinner in the private room. was the 1st time i dined at this joint, and honestly, some of the dishes on the menu were really pretty good.
the soups & meat dishes where among the best i've tasted in a long time. the cold cut platter, consisting of assorted roasted poultry was pretty impressive. the 'fo tiao qiang'-buddha jumps over the wall was also neat.
ate to our hearts content with the salmon sashimi too. |

| Successful business lunch
I organized a business networking lunch at Noble House because it is near some of the participants. The UIC building is quite old and dingy looking but the restaurant is such a contrast. The center portion has a high ceiling and the decor gives a second storey effect. Natural light comes muted from the left side so the whole ambience is quite natural and "clean".
The restaurant is about 80% full but we don't feel crowded and the noise level is acceptable, probably because they used curtains and wall padding to absorb the sound.
Ok, now to the food, It cost about $50 per pax for the set lunch and the food is quite good and the portions are just nice. The individual servings allow us to have good conversations without too much distraction from the food, perfect for business lunch meeting.
I might return to try the weekend lunch buffet. |
