  1. Veggie Feast

    Feb 2, 2009
    Mei2 Chai4 Kou4 Rou4...
    Fo2 Tiao4 Qiang3...

The menu is totally deceiving - this is a 100% vegetarian restaurant, and yet many dishes in the menu seemed like "meat dishes".

Take the mock Mei2 Chai4 Kou4 Rou4 for example - it's not just some ordinary gluton dish made to LOOK like san1 chen2 rou4. The chef takes a lot of effort to bring out the texture of the 3 layers- "skin-fat-meat" using gluton. It's really amazing how such "mock-meat" dishes can capture the essence of the actual meat dish so well.

The restaurant is not big but you'll surprised the variety of dishes they churn out - from baked rice to soup to pizza to "steaks" and burgers. It's a place for the whole family to visit - the kid can have the mock western food while the older ones can try the soup with noodle or rice, eg. Shi Quan Da Bu Tang (10 ingredient tonic soup) or Fo Tiao Qiang (buddha jump over the wall).

This restaurant really pushes to a new level what one can do without meat.

P.S. Oh, there is also a veggie snack section where you can buy Taiwanese veggie snacks to munch on.

I decided to try out this place because I like to eat vegetarian food once in a while and also it is near my place.

The service was prompt and the staff were friendly. I ordered Mushroom Stewed Noodles ($4.80) because someone reviewed here saying that there isn't much fake meat and when I eat vegetarian I prefer more natural ingredients. There was still some fake meat but it still tasted good as there were all kinds of mushrooms and I love mushrooms!

I also ordered a Plum Vinegar Drink ($1.80). Liked the tingling sensations when I drank it and just sour enough for me.

Also bought some vegetarian instant noodles. They have racks displaying vegetarian noodles, porridge, snacks etc.

Would go back to try their other items next time.

    • good vegetarian food

NorthSouthEastWest is a "restaurant" which occupies about 1/4 of a food court. Have tried it about 6 times so far and each time I walk away satisfied with the vegetarian food. For those who prefer lesser mock meat and stuff you can try the stewed mushroom noodles :) yummy.

Also, the baked rendang rice is solid! Love it to bits.

Will be going back again soon :)
