| The signature packs a punch

Food / Beverage 9.2
What I like about the curry fish head here:- Fresh fish used
- Plenty of side dishes to choose from
- Fragrant curry gravy that is so good, you will ask for extra rice.
- the collagen rich areas of the fish, like the lips, and gill covers
- served boiling hot in a claypot
Ambience 8.2
Curry fish head is best enjoyed slowly and shared. I like the kopi tiam setting simply because of its distinct local character and because it is my personal favourite setting to savour the dish. It is a place where one can be himself/herself. Plus, curry fish head should be eaten without high levels of etiquette nor your favourite clothes since it can get messy.
Value 7.9
Nothing to complain about here. The price paid included plenty of sides we ordered.
Service 8
The cold, brutal efficiency of the kopi tiam is quite impressive. The orders came quickly to satisfy hungry diners. The servers were polite even during their peak hours. |

| Assam Curry Fish Head.
After hearing ppl raving about this place, I finally tried the assam curry fishhead here and I ain't disappointed. :)
Its actually a mixed veg rice stall that sells the curry fishhead in a very old coffeeshop. Essentially, 80% of the coffeeshop business attributes to this stall for the curry fishhead. Typically of TPY, there is hardly any space to navigate amongst the tables places outside the coffeeshop as its really a narrow corridor on elevated ground. Note, for such old places, pls pls dun expect much service cos its the food that counts. Altho there is a man who is coordinating the seats among the limited space and he is kinda helpful. So, plus point there.
We went during lunch and as it was raining, its really another surreal experience itself as we were enjoying our curry fishhead with the pouring rain just centimetres away from our table along the corridor.
We ordered a large curry fishhead and 3 dishes (tofu, veg and meat - ko lo yok). The 3 dishes no doubt forgettable, the curry fishhead served piping hot in a claypot was truly unforgettable. :) I guess the cold weather made us appreciate the piping hot dish even more. The fish head given was big and fresh, coupled with the usual veg of lady fingers and brinjals in the curry. The few of us literally dissected the fish head right down to naught. The curry gravy, sour enough and not overly spicy. Appetizing, my friend finished up ALL the gravy. Hee. Another thing to mention is the sambal chilli condiment provided if one wants added spice. IMHO, its really shiok!! And coming from a spice/chilli princess myself, yea, all spice/chilli lovers out there shld love it!
Total damage for 6pax? $52. :) |
