| not too bad...
Had the black pork shabu shabu. Nothing really to rave about. Service was very prompt as the staff were attentive.
Quite good for small gatherings, as there are partitions between the tables.
If I do go there again, will stick to the regular pork platter, half the price and probably just as good :) |

| Shabu Shabu
I once worked part-time in this restaurant for almost a year back in the post-army days before uni.. hence I suppose I would have quite a good idea of how the food is (If the chef is still the same fat guy!)
It is basically a Shabu Shabu place.. there's two kind of soup bases.. one is kimuchi and the other is simply chicken stock. Both are excellent bases and the kimuchi one can be rather hot which is suitable for singaporeans.
Basically, the ingredients used for the shabu shabu are very fresh and meat portions are sufficient. You can have choice of seafood nabe which includes prawns, scallops, ika (cuttlefish) and a whole bunch of vege; or the pork nabe which is exactly what the name suggests or the beef. There are seasonal nabes like Kobe beef etc but that depends on the chef.. Basically per pax costs ard $25-$40 and there is a big serving of udon or rice at the end for you to cook either noodles or porridge using the soup left - They also provide eggs - this is the best part as the soup is now really sweet (and hot+tasty for the kimuchi).
However, my advise is if you are really hungry, check out the restaurant and ask for times when they have tabehodai.. which means BUFFET. Ala carte buffet, you can order as much as you want and it can really be very filling. An additional cost for drinks buffet gives you the choice of shochu, sake, beer anything they have in the restaurant. If you are attempting shochu for the first time, try it with Coke or you can just drop an Ume into it , or a lemon.
In addition, there are a few other dishes worth trying, the agedashi tofu and daikon salada (Radish salad), and ma po tofu - YES this dish is superb.
There is a choice of rooms or just the normal tables - for rooms you prob need 6 pple or more and there's really quite a lot of privacy but overall no one makes too much noise there. MOST , i'd say 90% of patrons are japanese.. says so much bout the authenticity and the quality.
Give it a try if you havent had Shabu Shabu before.. I think its better than our chinese hotpot which tends to be too complicated. |
