The elegance of english tea parties
06 Jan 2011I loved the place when i stepped in. They have different dining themes. A simple coffee table with 2 couches, an elegant dining table set for a big family, garden tables for 4 and etc. Also an al fresco area for those who like it out doors.
First, I had the mushroom soup which was heavenly. The taste of freshly cooked minced mushroom really started the meal well. It made up for the plain main dish of turkey slices and tomato risotto, which i was sick of eating after a while.
I didn't have an excellent meal, but i have a good feeling that there's something else better that i can try next time. This place just gives you a pleasant feeling.
Great for a girls' outing

Huge disappoinment.
27 Dec 2010Decided to pay the place a visit after seeing some pictures of the pretty deco on my friend's facebook but totally regretted the decision. Upon arrival, there's no sign of any staff, so we didn't know whether we had to wait to be seated or...? So we just wandered in and chosen our own seats. Didn't receive a menu so went to another table to get one.. which is like those paper used to lay the tray in fastfood joints.
Ordered a truffle pasta i think.. It was really a pain to eat a mouthful and had to be washed down by water to make the process less bearable. the mushroom soup was good tho.I actually looked through the menu online beforehand and was looking forward to try some of their desserts. But when i asked for the desserts they said they didnt have any and only had cakes. This fully defeated my purpose of going there in the first place. Although it was lunch time, the place was weirdly quiet. Should have known.
The place was tastefully decorated, but the service and food definitely do not match up.

No Oomph at Oomphatico's :(
01 Nov 2010Came here based on the mixed reviews in HGW just to see for myself and also because it was an old pal's birthday brunch & we decided on Tanglin Mall as the rendezvous.
The decor was pretty, an eclectic mix of colors. We were reserved for 11.30am and the restaurant was very quiet with only less than 5 tables occupied. Hmm.. thats the first sign of trouble maybe? Nevertheless, we sat and ordered. I had apple& pomegranate juice (there was a fancy shmancy name for it, but i forgot) and the grilled kurobuta pork. Birthday gal had Club Sandwich and some juice named Phantastic Four. Hubby picked Parma Ham & Rocket pizza. However we were informed that the restaurant didnt have any rocket salad and the pizza would be parma ham and greens which hubby then swapped it to the Duck Confit Risotto. (there was a market place downstairs, i bet they can get rocket leaves there, right? c'mon!)
So we waited. After 20min, the drinks arrived. Not too "phantastic", just normal blended juice. Oh well. And we waited for our meal. And waited. For almost 40mins. (note: there were only 5 tables occupied).
First up was my kurobuta. Looked more like a slice of roast pork aka "siu yokk". It came garnished with 3 not-very fresh prawns and some artfully smeared sambal-like sauce. Taste-wise, the pork was alright. Not too fatty which I appreciate and the pork skin was grilled crisp. Points 6/10.
My friend's Club sandwich looked and tasted dry. 'Nuff said. But it was close to 1pm, having skipped breakfast, she ate it anyway. Not all but just enough to fight off hunger pangs?
We were almost 1/2way thru our meal when the waitress approached my hubby, asking, "Oh u ordered Duck Risotto, right?". There, right then and there I knew they forgot or just didnt write down his order. True enough, he had to wait 35more minutes for the risotto. tsk tsk tsk. It was served sans garnish, looked like its dumped on a bowl unceremoniously with a few measly slices of duck. Served with one word "sorry". And it was salty to boot. Sigh.
Needless to say, we didnt bother with dessert or coffee. Who knows how long we'd have to wait?! And we wont be back. Luckily I had good company, the food and service was dismal.
Walking around the mall, Cafe Beviamo looks a whole lot livelier and food smells better too. Maybe we'll head there next time.
