Went to this place recently.. in short, was impressed by the view! However, much left to be desired for the food and beverages.. read more below.
Ambience/Setting was Great!! Sat on top of the Esplanade, this place offer very very scenic view of the CBD from a slightly different angle. They played good music, too. so I believe this would be a good place to bring your dates to chill out after dinner; to sit down and chat along, to get to know each other, etc.. there are 2 distinct "areas" in this place, the air-con glass box sitters and the open air sitters..
Food & Beverage was rather disappointing given the nice setting for this place.. Selection for main course/dessert/finger food was rather limited and even then, the food was ahh---right only.. same goes to the drink that we ordered.. okay only la.. hope to see management improving on this aspect of this potentially excellent eatery.
Value was a bit not worth it.. we spent $55 for 2 person, which is about 27 bucks per person but I felt a bit shortchanged in terms of the quality of the drink.. Understood that we are paying more for ambience.. but it is still a bit too much to pay for the view. And you can only book the glass box sitters if you have a large group or your bill amount up to 150-200 bucks!! which was understandable from management point of view, but totally suck from customers point of view. anyhow, i also felt shortchanged because for this amount of money, i was made to sit on cushion.. without back rest support..
Service was decent.. hmm. Receptionist was warm and friendly, service staff was friendly in assisting to take order..
final words.. I might return to bring friends to enjoy the ambience.. but definitely not for the food..

Actually what intially drew me to Orgo was their concept of Organic Chemistry whereby for some items on the menu, only organic produce is used. This novelty coupled with the presence of the celebrity mixologist Tomoyuki Kitazoe and the stunning Esplanade rooftop ambience was more than enough reason to justify the visit. The glass walls separating the al fresco and indoor areas enable those who shun the local humidity and heat to enjoy the paranomic view of the Singapore skyline and Marina Bay resort in the luxury of indoor aircon comfort too!

This being my virgin visit, most of the food and drink orders were recommendations by the staff.

Described as “Kurobuta & Chicken Parcel gratinated in melted Foie Gras”, the Foie Gras Siew Mai($12++) sounded too good to be true. Kurobuta and Foie Gras together? What have I done to deserve such luxury? Swoons…That said, Orgo probably mixed up the Foie Gras Siew Mai recipe with the recipe for utter disappointment, whipping up the latter instead. There was a strong gamey and porky flavour and the rough texture was atypical of what I’d normally expect from Kurobuta. Usually the saving grace, I have always thought that it would be impossible to screw up a Foie Gras but for Orgo, impossible is nothing. I assumed that melting the Foie Gras was mainly used to bring out the intense flavour but instead, the Foie Gras ended up tasting like a bitter moose that lacked it’s all so enjoyable fatty consistency. Yes, I don’t like it when Foie Gras goes to waste and so I rant…

“Skewer of Beef Tenderloin accompanied by Cabbage Salad served with Chili & Lime Dressing”, the Pinchitos Morunos($10++) was too my horror, served to us at room temperature though I’m not sure if that was intentional. The dressing was a nice fit for the Beef but I really wouldn’t order this again as pre-cooked beef left at room temperature is really just an unsavoury cesspool for bacterial growth.

Just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse, the Grilled Chicken Breast accompanied by Fricassee of Mushrooms gratinated with Cheese($25++) arrived. It sets the record for the most rubber-like chicken I have ever eaten although at least the cream sauce helped to lift this dish from downright disgusting to just plain distasteful, ok I exaggerate but seriously, the calories I lost chewing the rubbery meat > than the calories I gained digesting it. I’m going to call this yumyumformytumtum’s 1 step diet programme for healthy weight loss.

probably shouldn’t have been that shocked at how the food turned out though since no one else there apart from S and I seemed to have ordered any food. However, I’m pleased to say that the cocktails are a different story altogether. Orgo prides itself on mixing cocktails made from fresh fuits(only sliced on ordering), which evidently results in cocktails with a much more refreshing fruity taste. This concept is not a new one, Klee @ Portsdown Road has been using it long before Orgo came into the picture and it works. Most people only perceive drinking as an avenue to get high and totally miss out on the fine art of liquor appreciation which I feel is a pity. For me at least, the friendly banter with the mixologists and other friendly patrons whilst soaking up the ambience with a freshly mixed martini in hand makes for the perfect symphony for cocktail appreciation and with respect to this, I’d still prefer Klee slightly over Orgo due to the former’s concept of a no-menu cocktail concoction bar with personalised service and friendly regulars.

Passionfruit with Coffee Salt Margarita($18++) came reminiscent of a towering ice kachang. It tasted best when it was melted halfway, when I felt that the alcohol(tequila right?) to mixer ratio was just right for my liking

Mango & Marjoram Martini($18++) is for those who prefer something a little sweeter. Personally, I don’t really like mango but the subtle sweetness from both the mango and marjoram(a herb or undershrub with sweet pine & citrus flavour says wikipedia) definitely had some chemistry going on.

At the end of the day though, I have to admit I had a good time at Orgo and it will definitely be a spot for potential dates. It’s a nice place to chill and talk about life or our(Singaporeans) lack of it.

    Bon Appetit!

When to Orgo for drinks and tapas. Food is extremely gratifying - do try the Gratin Potato Balls and Grilled Seafood Skewer. They served us grapes in a cocktail glass upon arrival, frozen martinis and daiquiris are value for money. Spoke to one of the friendly malay floor staff on my virgin visit to Orgo. Apparently he told us that that the bartenders are all trained in Japan. Totally embrace the novelty and design of the place and it comes with an amazing city view. Awesome place to chill out on week nights. However, their indoor area is very small, therefore a downpour will inevitably affect operations as most of their tables are located ourdoors.

If you are thinking of a romantic drinks and bits place...check out this roof top glass house.
Although it only sits on the 3rd level of Esplanade, the view and the ambience is enough to woo your date's heart.  Besides the atmosphere, the drinks are made with the fresh ingredients and I believe lots of TLC.

I was there last evening with Bunny, to check out the place....Had intended to go quite some time ago, but was unlucky as the days i pick always end up raining.... Think they should speak to the building management to build a link way or something...anyway that's not my concern....
Ahh yes...the booze...Bunny ordered the Pomelo Martini, while i had the Passion fruit and Basil Mojito...

    Verdict:

Pomelo Martini - Slightly sweet with a light touch of  tang on the palate

Passion Fruit Mojito - A good blend between sweet and sour with a nice fragrant of the fruit on the nose.

For munchies, we went for the Lobster Cappuccino, Foie Gras Confit, Grilled Kurobuta Belly, Insalata Di Frutti Di Mare, Hotate & the Pinchitos Marunos...

Lobster Cappuccino: Excellent creamy texture which is not over done, it will be a bonus if i can have some lobster meat in the soup..

Foie Gras Confit: Nice but Confit gives me the impression that it is or should be cripy on the outside or hot ...im actually surprise to see 2 slices of foie gras terrine.  But it was serve with a good choice of rasin toast that compliment the foie gras perfectly

Grilled Kurobuta Belly: Well since Orgo is a Jap establishment, this dish will never good wrong, nicely grilled to perfection.  Leaving the meat juciy on the inside, and slightly crispy on the outside...

Insalata Di Frutti Di Mare: Its a bit of a disappointment the dressing is good with a bit of thai influence i guess, but the seafood are abit too bland, especially the squid.

The Hotate: Thinly slice scallop below a bed of greens, i like the sauce for this dish.  It brings out the nature sweetness of the scallop.. A Must Try~

Finally Pinchitos Marunos: This lamb kebah look alike dish is also rather disappointing, as it does not leave much of an impression after eating...

Overall the experience is a pleasant one. The staff are friendly but not very well verse in their product knowledge.  I will most likely go back again for drinks and the view.

Ate at Orgo recently, the food's was superb I must say. I was pleasantly surprised. Limited spread for main courses tho, there were more choices for tapas instead.

The view was splendid, very suitable for private dining if you pick the glass cubes which we did. There's a minimum spending of 150 bucks if you want to be seated in the glass cubes.

Service wasn't as good tho. Because we were in the glass cubes, it was even harder to get their attention.

Same thing, I've blogged quite in detail (with price n pics of the food)

Food tried were - Caesar Salad, Lobster Cappuccino, Hotate Alfredo, Petunia Ocean Trout, Duck Confit, Souffle.

I realise there's little reviews on the food at Orgo, sooo you're welcome =)

i've been a regular at orgo for some time.

the fresh fruit martinis are awesome, my favourite being the passionfruit and vanilla martini. it comes with a caramelised passionfruit half so you have to crack open a thin sugar layer to get to the gooey goodness of passionfruit below.

the view of singapore's cbd is gorgeous. you feel far away enough, across the water, to appreciate the bright lights and feel that "yes, i'm living in singapore. my city."

    the folks here are also really friendly. they remember me and always have a ready smile :}

We stopped for a drink only so not sure about the food.

I really wanted a martini that looked very Bond, however my extra dirty martini was very dirty and so looked a little bit girly like the ladies fruit martinis.

It was a pretty good martini though I am fairly new to them admittedly. For some reason there was a little sweetness coming through the muddled olives saltiness whihc was odd yet pleasant.

A great place for a quite rooftop drink.

Typical of Singapore bars nobody told us it was happy hour until happy hour was finishing. Only for beers so would not have made a difference but just a reminder to ask. This seems to be consistent all over Singapore.

First of all, I can't write about the food, because I've never actually sat down at the place - I was drove out by the appalling service before I could.

I went to Orgo during a friends' gathering, and one of the friends recommended this bar/restaurant "on top of esplanade with a nice view". One of us had reserved seats with them before we go.

We reached around 9-ish on a Friday night and it was not very crowded from the outside. About 5 or 6 customers at the outdoor dining tables. We stood at the porch and told one of the waitresses we made a reservation, and they told us to wait.

There was no specific waiting area so we had to stand at the porch and watch others eat. After 10 minutes, when we saw the waitresses still buzzing around but with no one gettin to us, we asked again, "we made a reservation".

The waitresses asked us to wait again, and at this time, another group, who came after us, also said they made a reservation. And after 5 minutes, we saw them getting into this separate transparent glass cube sitting place with cushions.

Rather angry by now, I told the waitress that 'we've had a reservation, and we waited for 15 mintes'

And ONLY THEN - after more than 15 minutes - did the waitress looked flustered and that's when we see her pulling chairs to another part of the place facing the sea view, with the chairs circling a round table so low that it's impossible to eat with food placed on top. And you would think when u made a reservation, it means a table is ALREADY set up for you?

We asked her why couldnt we go inside the transparent glass place? "Oh, that's only for those who paid above (can't remember, either $200 or $300)"

Although my friends had eaten and only wanted drinks, i came late from work and was expecting a nice dining table setting when i can reach my food, which I told them was what I wanted.

That's when the manager came. "Sorry, when u made ur reservation, you din specify u want the dinner table, so we set you up for a drinks table instead".

There were many dining seats still outdoor, and a almost empty long dining table indoors. I asked why can't we cant we sit there.

"Sorry mdm, those seats were already reserved,"

I was livid by now, "so their reservations are more important than ours?"

The manager: "Sorry mdm, actually those were reserved for our frequent customers. But if you really want, I can try asking them if they mind if you sit there instead - they are more understanding"

Of course, I couldn't bear to stay, although some of my friends, seeing the gorgeous view, were reluctant to leave.

But if a restaurant thinks it can bank on its selling point of a gorgeous downtown riverside-view and the hype as the "newest chill- out place in town, such that it can be customer-selective, and behave haughtily to those who arent "frequent customers", AND think they can get away with it - then sorry, I'm voting with my feet and this verdict of them in public domain as one with the worst service I've ever had.

They are a shame to Singapore's hospitality industry.

Finally made our way down to Orgo to check out the latest freshly-muddled cocktails joint on the block (ie pre-mixes and artificial flavourings are a no-no).

The place is mostly alfresco, set in Esplanade's sprawling Roof Terrace, although there are some airconditioned rooms (all encased in glass) which you can book for a min spend of S$100-200. This place makes for a great spot for a drink provided the night is cool.

Featuring concoctions by celebrity mixologist Tomoyuki Kitazoe, besides the plain vanilla fresh fruit cocktails, Orgo offers interesting concoctions. I tried the strawberries with mascarpone as well as the peach and rose cocktails at $18 each. Both were not too bad and the strawberries and mascarpone definitely tasted like a dessert in a drink.

The whole rooftop bar concept is great - and Orgo is unbeatable in terms of the view (IR, flyer, Clifford Pier, the purging merlion etc). However, the humidity! Even our chatty Japanese bartender who served us was clearly perspiring. In that respect Orgo could do well to better chill their glasses to preserve the coolness of the cocktail because half-way through the drink the cocktail has pretty much warmed up.

It is inevitable that anyone who's been to Klee will want to draw up a comparison. Drinks-wise I think they are pretty much on par although Orgo's appear to pack more texture and Klee's cocktails seems to pack more alcohol in a glass. However I like my drink cool all the way and view/scenary notwithstanding, Klee definitely wins hands-down in terms of ambience and setting.
