back to where we had our first date

Hubby and I went there for citibank 1-for-1 lunch a few Sat back. That was where he brought me for our first date so it was nice going back there again after so many years, esp. since my mom was helping to look after our ger. The lunch deal was to end at 3 and we got there only at 255. The manager was kind enough to let us in even though the kitche staff was already getting ready to clear up. We quickly ordered and just sat in the dim lighted room. The restaurant was not crowded, only a few families chatting away after their meal...nice and quiet enough for us to enjoy our quiet moment.

We had the soup of the day (forgot what it was), 1 risotto and 1 absolut pasta. I wondered if it was because we had rushed the whole day at home doing housework and fussing over our little ger that we were so hungry. our portions did not seem enough. His risotto was nicely cooked...soft and fragrance...my pasta, when covered with the extra cheese flakes, was yummy. I especially liked it that the pasta was very warm, unlike a lot of cold pasta which I have tasted. It certainly helped to bring out the flavours even more.

the staff was also very patient and kind. they injected their sentences with 'please', 'thank you' and showered us with a lot of smiles. considering that it was past their closing time for the day, i am truly impressed. even the kitchen staff carried themselves properly as they left the kitchen for their break, sitting amongst the tables in the main restaurant.

Not much romantic talk like in the past...we found ourselves talking more about the little silly and funny things that our ger has been doing and discussed about how to bring her up properly...still it was a nice meal and something which I would look forward to again.

my old love

This is a place I have frequently visited since about 1998. So long time ago, I can't remember the exact year.
It has become a must for me to go there, whenever the desire to have some vegetarian food, different than the stuff you usualy get in Singapore, becomes overwhelming.
A perfect place to bring friends who are not vegetarians and who appreciate a glass of wine with their food.
I like the ambiance, especially in the evening time, when the whole area looks very romantic due to its al fresco area lighted up with candle light.
The food is very creative and tasty and their Tiramisu is an absolute must for me even if there is actually no more place for it in the stomach.
Their service is generaly very good, something a bit hard to find in Singapore.
Only once it happens that my guest and I received our salad without any dressing on top.
Not a major crime, but shows that accidents can happen anywhere.

Must Tries: everything, Tiramisu

One bad night

I actually love the food at Original Sin, but last Wednesday I went there for dinner and now I'm not sure if I'm ever going back. I ordered the Absolut pasta dish, and had the apple crumble for dessert. Right after dinner, I came down with one of the worst cases of food poisoning I'd ever had. Once bitten, twice shy. Even though it may have been a freak thing, I don't think I'll ever go back. Just the thought of my nights throwing up, fever (and I'll spare you the other gross details...) because of that one bad meal there is enough to scar me for life.

Greener Pastures? and did I hear Tiramisu?

Oh my goodness.. just the name "Original Sin" makes my heart flutter! What more could a food-loving vego chick need in her life.. well... beside a tall, dark, handsome man?! *wink*

I have been a HUGE fan of this restaurant since I discovered it almost 6 years ago! It is a neat little place tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the Holland Village, which is just a walk across the road.

Having not been back in town for a while, I decided to pop in with some carnivorous and omnivorous friends who were all prepared to skin me alive and feast on me if the food was not up to scratch... So fearing for my life I ordered for all at the table and by the grace of the "Original Sin"... I am proud to report I am well and ALIVE! HURRAH!

I ordered the Bosco Misto which is a delectable dish with 2 spinach, feta and tofu patties with a yummy plum sauce over it. A tad rich and there is a possibility that you might get a little bored with the taste but if you are like me and LURVE your cheese, I'd say.. Go for it! My other favourite dish was ordered for the purist carnivores and all the lip smacking I heard was over the Mousakka in front of her - that was a layered dish with char-grilled eggplant, tomatoes and lentils with Middle Eastern spices! YUM!!! Other dishes included the Rissoto, the Polenta tower (Ooooo Portobello mushrooms!!!) and the tagine.

They previously had a main called Capri which was a dish of 2 skewers of grilled vegs - eggplant, zucchini, mushroom, onion and kumera with a salsa and some avocado sauce! Simple idea and it created a meal that was not too stuffing and yet filled with all the goodness you need! My partner absolutely craved the Mediterrano pizza which had spinach and feta as toppings along with sun-dried tomatoes and olives. I am sad to report, these have now been taken out of the menu but do try your luck and they might just whip it out for you!

Service was commendable and the staff are getting better each time I feed there! The ambience of the place has remained the same - dim lighting, lots of mirrors and a look-in kitchen concept. The walls are painted yellow and blue and add to the Mediterranean feel of the restaurant. There is seating outside as well for smokers and for those who don't mind the stickiness. But it does have a nice alfresco feel to it. Be prepared for the typical cafe del mar tracks you always hear at these types of restaurants...

The prices of mains hover around the $22-29 range which is not too bad for the ambience, service and the food. A meal for 2 would not cost above $120 unless wine is ordered. I think they are BYO on Mondays only!

I still love this place and I would recommend it to anyone who is willing to give the poor goat/chicken/cow a miss and graze the greener pastures of vegetarianism, even if it is for just a day. Oh and might I add... their TIRAMISU rates 110% in my books!!

Detox your body with greens

Trooping into a vegetarian restaurant with a bunch of carnivores because of a vegetarian in our midst who so decides not to turn up is not a funny thing. I mean, how can a bunch of carnivores be happy?

But anyway, it was with a heavy heart that the carnivores chose between a mediterranean wrap or a tofu burger which was part of the one for one set lunch - besides the mains, you get a healthy fresh juice/smoothie and dessert.

Let's just say that at one point, one of the carnivores who ordered the wrap started moo-ing and asked if anyone wanted to order a meat lovers' pizza.

The tofu burger, on the other hand, was actually quite nice, served up with fries and a salad. The tofu patty was really quite satisfying, much like meat actually and it was impossible to chow down the entire burger into your mouth - we all, including the guys, had to eat half the burger at a time.

Overall verdict, if you'd like a healthier meal, complete with a bevy of ang mohs (and faux ones) to watch, come on down to Original Sin.
