  1. australia yummy western food

    May 7, 2007
you see it, u'll tink itz just another stall in a foodcourt...going closer for a 2nd look, u might just pass it becos u wouldn't think of payin tat kinda price in the foodcourt!

hey, hold a sec will'ya? go try it, give it a chance, itz got such a nice name, and itz got a cool "bubbled round ball" as your waiting tag...

and i betcha wont regret when u eat it! and u would definitely come back again after the 1st try :)

yea, the food is nice, decent and pretty value for $, i've tried the battered fish, chicken, seafood kebabs, cod fillet...i've tried also (from other pp's plates haha :P) cheese chicken, almost everything on the menu...personal favoritest? cod fillet! itz grilled just nice, soft, tender, juicy and very tasty...seafood kebabs comes 2nd...u can ask for any kinda sauce, there's wasabi sauce, garlic sauce, tartar sauce, the usual tomato and chilli sauce...personal favoritest? garlic sauce! its super yummy! n the amazing thing is it goes with any and every food on the table!! however, wedges still taste yummiest with tomato sauce! their wedges, ooh~~~i love them, i love them! they've such authentic fresh potato flavour and they taste ultra good with the tomato sauce which tastes like u're eating tomatoes fresh!

they've this corded off area just for this stall, not your cosy, romantic ambience definitely, but its a comfortable little corner where u can enjoy a meal served, not self-service... but u can also sit anywhere in the foodcourt, and they'll still serve the food to you even if you're seated at the far end...

service is good, friendly, my sis-in-law finds her cheese chicken too burnt, and they changed a newly done one for her with all smiles...

well, cost wise, the usual can range from $7+, it happens tat my 2 favorites are the higher range about $10+, bu still nice, fresh seafood and fish for tat price? i say tats a steal!! i'm a satisfied customer ;)

Yeah I've heard of this place...it's great value for money given that they serve fish and other types of seafood at such a reasonable price! Food tastes good too. :)

Foodcourt setting... although with its own corner...
Australian concept... but seems to be a bit trying...
Average (and low cost) ingredients for the sides...
      Acceptable but not impressive...
Affordable.. but probably not value for money...
      Service? What service?

Then again, it's a foodcourt! So, its Cod Steak ($13.90) is probably the best but a bit pricey considering they use low cost sides.

I'll probably patronized if i am at the mall and not willing to spend a lot on a reasonably better meal than the foodcourt's Yong Tau Foo. I will not remember it as a "I will travel there to dine" place.

      That's my verdict.

      • Paddy's The Australian Concept

        Sep 1, 2009
Was totally disappointed with the food and staff at this stall in Tanglin Mall. First of all, with a title like "Paddy's The Australian concept", I mistakenly expected to get a taste of what we're used to in Australian. Boy, was I wrong. Fronting the place are two China-born staff who struggled to speak in English and kept getting my order wrong as they didn't seem to understand what I wanted, despite my pointing at the menu. This was a TOTAL turn-off, as I HATE it when restaurants hire PRCs to front their place and expect patrons to go through this long process just to get your orders correct. To add further insult, we all found the food very bland, particularly the fish items. And inevitably of course, one order arrived wrong - we ordered breaded but we got battered. As we were already hungry, I didn't want to go through another round of pointing and signing, to get the order right. What a disappointment of a place. Never again.

They served the simple fish n chips(can be fried or crumbed), salads, seafood platters and oven baked potatoes.

They are opened quite early in the day so u can enjoy ur fish n chips as early as u want to. A range of fish are available like ling, sole, cod, salmon n dory. You can request for less oil or any other services. Kid's menu are also available to cater to those with small appetite.

I had the fish n chips(kid's menu) n a egg mayo salad. Portion is quite small but i love the salad. Although it's jus a simple egg mayo salad, it was delicious as the ingredients r fresh.

Do pop by if u r in tanglin mall

When an ex-colleague suggested bringing me to have fish and chips in the foodcourt of Tanglin Mall, I was expecting the pseudo western food that is more commonly found in hawker centres. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised by an Aussie fish and chip stall that offered a good variety of fish (barramundi, sole, ling, salmon), both crumbed and battered, with accompanying thick cut potato wedges (more like roasted potatoes), lettuce and tomatoes, as well as a range of entrees.

On my first visit, I had the Ling fish which was firm and fresh, though a tad dry. Crumbed and crispy, it went very well with the garlic and wasabi dips. On my second visit, I tried the fish of the day - sole fillet. I requested for it to be crumbed and had an order of crumbed calamari as well. My dinner partner ordered the grilled salmon steak which featured a generous slice of salmon which he deemed "not bad" in taste.

The sole was moist although a tad greasy. Perhaps I should have had it grilled instead as having it crumbed was a special request. They could also have done with slightly fresher oil. The calamari was well fried - crispy and crunchy in substantial portions with a good bite. As usual, I love their chunks of potatoes that come with a thin crisp, almost roasted in texture crust, lightly salted, and which breaks easily to reveal the soft flesh of the potato inside.

Overall, Paddy's offers more authentic fish and chips than the hawker centre variety at slighly higher prices. Good value, yummy potatoes - now all they got to do is just give a better salad than just shredded lettuce!
