very good Indonesian food

Pagi Sore (morning and evening in Bahasa Indonesia) has been in business since 1989 and serves very good Indonesian food. Having had lunch here when it can be totally crowded, hectic and rowdy, dinner was a much quieter experience.

The specialties here are the beef rendang, grilled squid and ikan otah kukus. These dishes are indeed excellent. The flavour and spice of the rendang is well executed (warning: I was there on one occasion when this turned out pretty poor - off day perhaps?). The squid is very fresh, with a very good sweet and spicy sauce.

On this occasion I chose other items: kangkong belachan, tahu telor and ayam bali (marinated char-grilled chicken). The tahu telor, I found quite pleasant. The ayam bali was a very good combination of flavours - the taste of nicely grilled chicken with a sauce mixing spices with sweet.

One serving of rice comes in a folded banana leaf held together with a toothpick. If you finish your rice, the attentive wait staff will come by and ask if you need more.

Total with drinks cost $38 after service charge and GST - decent value.

It is staffed by a bunch of polite, friendly and efficient wait staff. Dishes are also cleared off your table promptly. You can sign up as a VIP member that gives you 10% off food at lunch and 15% off food at dinner.

Order the right items and you'll do well. Pagi Sore would be my choice for Indonesian food in Singapore.

Must Tries: rendang sapi, cumi bali

One of the better indo food place

I hv been there for a couple of times, finally decided to drop a line on this place.

1. Kangkong belachan - 8/10
Portion was just nice, chilli was HOT eanough esp. when you can see the little seeds in there.

2. Ayam Gulai - 8/10
Curry chix which went very well with the rice! My family's fav!

3. Ayam Panggang - 9/10
BBQ style chicken, portion was pretty small but judging that we had 5 items, still ok la.
The marinate was very nicely and evenly done, unlike some places which serve very sweet (too much bbq sauce) chix.

4. Ikan Otah Kukus - 8/10
Very 'otah-ed' fish, fresh, and hot ! :)

5. Ikan Goreng Balado - 6/10
Maybe cos it's a seabass, it had a funny rubbery smell.
Can skip this item. :P

Service was prompt, and friendly. I like.

Must Tries: Ikan Otah Kukus; Ayam Gulai; Ayam Panggang

Great Indonesian Food @... well... pretty "high" prices

Guess my friend missed the discount cards.

But the prices were kinda steep for my liking.

But this place is def better than some of the other indo food that I have tried... Rice Table, House of Sudanese etc.

Anyway, the food was served quite fast... but they were not like some places where the food is pre-cooked hours ago and reheated again just before serving.

The chili was nice but they charge for extra plates of chili.

The rendang was one of the better ones I have tried. ($ for $)

But what I was not really happy with was the staff kinda "rushes" you to order...

But there is this old chap who greets customers (Looks like he's the owner of the place) makes customers feel "homely"

Over all... not too bad.

Must Tries: Rendang, Lady's finger, was told that the fish was good but never tried it.

Great food at great prices?

the bro was disappointed that they didn't serve two of his favourite things in an indonesian restaurant - yellow rice (nasi kuning?) and bergedel (the potato patties, however it's spelt).

their 'last saving grace' as far as the bro was concerned - the tahu telor wasn't that fantastic.

the kangkong, sayur lodeh and some chicken wing stuffed with potato (the closest thing to bergedel we could find on the menu) were mediocre at best.

not everything was lousy though. we enjoyed the chargrilled chicken and the fish in otah sauce. the avocado dessert was thick enough to get mum's nod of approval. the service wasn't too bad either, with attentive servers.

i liked the 15% uob discount too though.

Great food at great prices!

the restaurant's decor is really simple and functional. food's great and comes in small portions so u can have variety and not overeat. delicate indonesian flavor without the blinding spice. must-try beef rendang!
