JOCASTA STELLA

Highly Recommended! Nice Ambience, Nice People

My hubby and me had been to this French Fusion restaurant for the past seven years and the food had always been consistent and delicious! The service staffs were always friendly and the new location had a high ceiling and some carparks infront of the restaurant.

We started off with one dozen of the medium oysters. The oysters were plump and succulent! Yummy!
Every Wed is Oysters Nite! Hence, we got a good deal!
Next, we had the Little Neck Clams in Sake Wine Sauce! Its really Heavenly Clams!
Follow by the Beef Short Ribs, the Beef is soooo tender that melts in the mouth!
Lastly, we had the Chocolate Lava Cake. The Molten Lava is a Must Try!
Its always advisable to call to make booking as we waited for half an hour before we could get a table!

never again

After giving this restaurant many chances we will not return. The manager or owner runs this place on rules and does not consider the customers needs. You do not close a kitchen at 9:30pm on a Friday night when you take a booking for 8:15pm. Stupidity!

Excellent food, especially the oysters. Excellent service also.

I popped into this restaurant for lunch after visiting the bicycle shops just a few doors down. I don't know how this place has evaded by taste buds, or how few have reviewed it on HGW. The food and service were excellent. In particular, I remember the young Singaporean lad who served us, who was very attentive, friendly and genuine.

The oysters were large, fresh, plump and incredibly tasty. The main course of steak was great (though the meat was perhaps a little over done), and the dessert and coffee were both great. I cannot quite remember the prices, but they were very reasonable indeed for the quality, the ambience and the service.

When I went there the place was empty except for us, which doesn't bode well. But I don't know why it's empty, perhaps the location? But the food and service were just great.

Will definitely go there again. Good, well priced, fresh oysters are difficult to find in Singapore.

Legendary Yorkshire Pork Rack

Pictures/Full Review Here

Tasmanian Blue Mussels ($20++)

Plump, juicy, succulent and insanely fresh mussels simmered in a spicy white wine broth with the added kick of basil, I definitely couldn’t have asked for more as the mussels were really very well done. Only problem would be that it was a little on the spicy side, as not everyone would have as enjoyed it as thoroughly as I did.

Lobster Bisque ($18++)

$18 may seem rather steep for a bowl of lobster bisque, considering Pearle Noire’s philsophy is that they served very moderately priced food. The price of the bisque was definitely justified when a large bowl arrived. A thick velvety bisque, filled with all the crustacean goodness and unami aftertaste definitely made the soup very hearty. Chunks of plump and juicy lobster were also found in the bisque, where the sweetness of the sesame toast served alongside complemented the savoriness of the bisque. Good Stuff.

 Yorkshire Pork Rack ($28++)

Okay, words do not justify how out of this world pork dish was. Grilled to perfection with evident and tantalizing cris-cross grill marks on the exterior. The pork, cooked medium well with a tinge of pinge in the center had seriously, im not kidding, a melt in your mouth texture bursting with juices and a wonderfully charred flavor. The sweet apple puree complemented the part, while the sweet potato mash was also enjoyable with use of cumin that made the overall flavors of the dish very lively. Even the orgasmic Kurobuta Pork Chop @ Bistro Du Vin falls short of the one here.

Squid Ink Linguine with Freshly Grilled Calamari ($25++)

Cooked al-dente, the Linguine was well executed where the pasta was chewy but not overly soggy. The savory sauce of squid ink, olive oil and garlic went well with the pasta, while the dices of ripened vine tomatoes added a subtle sweetness. A whole piece of grilled squid perched atop the dollop of pasta. The grilled calamari definitely was the best component of the dish where the freshness was elusive from the smoky robust flavor it possessed, making every single bite of it get better and better.

Pork Knuckle

Specialty dish of the restaurant!

A good size pork knuckle arrived with mashed potatoes and a bit of green.

The skin is crackling and meat is moist.

However taste wise is a bit bland and the accompanying sauce is not tasty too.

Mashed potatoes is too overly powered with butter and green wise does not come with vinaigrette or salad sauce. At the price of $35/- ++. More expensive than Werner Oven but didn't offer better value.

Black Squid Ink Pasta with calamari.

Not a convention type of squid ink sauce, looks like squid ink however tastes more to sweet and sour, maybe due to the dried tomatoes. At the price of $25/- ++

Above all dishes come with good presentation but it was a letdown in term of taste wise.
