One of the best bak chor noodle in Hougang
Dec 28, 2008When I told my hubby I intend to write a review on this stall, he protested. Reason being he always complained about the long queue and he does not want the queue to be even longer.
We used to patronise his old stall in old Tampines Road. The old hougang market has sinced closed and he shifted to kovan hawker centre not too long ago.
I always go for the dry version as dry version is my favourite. The soup version shouldn't be too bad. The best part is the soup, small intestines and the meatballs. The soup is very tasty with no MSG. Guess they boiled the soup for hours and the flavour is infused into the soup. The meatballs are hand made and is soft and very fresh. Definetly taste different from the machine made ones.
My hubby ever overhead the owner told the customer in front of him that there are no meatballs on sale as the meat does not look fresh to him. So this means he is particular about his quality of food sold to his customers.
If you order add-on side dish, please try the small intestines. They are simply delicious. They are cooked until very soft and tender and there are no smell in them as the wife washed it very clean. This is the only stall I would go for the small intestines. (I actually dislike to eat pig's internal organs.)
However my hubby not able to eat the small intestines during his last 2 trips as he did not see the owner's wife there anymore. Not so sure it is still available.
With the add-on, I usually did not finish all the noodle as the portion is a bit too big for me.
The owner is very obliging. Not too sure abt the price as my hubby is the one who queues up. Think around $3plus?Must Tries

misunderstanding
Oct 25, 2009Hi galinusa,
with reference to your above comment, we would like to sincerely apologize for the mistake. However, If the order taker really intended to replace the "mistaken mee kia", he wouldn't have corrected the other guy that the mistaken packet was suppose to be a mee pok. On normal practice, we always consult our customer on whether he/she is alright to change. We will take note on your feedback. Thank you.I also recommend this place for

Not ethical. I don't support
Jul 4, 2009I stood in line like any good customer to order 2 packs of mee pok tar. This was made to the guy taking order.
[At this point, a man who had placed advanced notice for 5 packs of noodles came back to collect. He told the guy that he didn't want chilli for one of the packs. So the store replaced it for him and the one pack of 'mistake' was left sitting on the side.]
When the chap heard my order, he said to the order taker that there was already a packet ready to go, i.e. the 'mistake'. Order taker said, "that's mee kia lah". So I thought, "good, you noticed."
I stood on the side, waiting patiently for my orders. I trusted my orders to be right and my trust was misplaced. Sigh, I got home and no prizes for guessing that the packet of 'mistake' was given to me. I was completely angry for that moment. Angry because I was too trusting, angry because the store thought they could bully me, angry because I bought the noodles for my family and I want to give them what they wanted.
To be frank, if they had asked me if I wanted to take the mee kia, I would have considered it. To use this sort of underhand means to push a pack of $2.50 noodle is beyond me. I won't be patronizing the store anymore, irregardless whether the noodles are nice or not because I do not condone this type of behaviour.Must Tries
