| One of the best xiaolongbaos I've ever had
This place serves fantastic xiaolongbaos I have ever eaten (trust me, I've eaten in the 'best' xiaolongbao restaurants). Other dishes I've also tried are their pot stickers, chinese pizza, dumplings, red bean pancake and mince meat noodles, all of which are wonderful. lacks service, but no service charge included so thats a good trade-off. Wonderful experience overall, will go back the next time I return to Singapore. |

| Limited menu, black faced owner but still a long queue....
We went there for lunch today for the 1st time. As always, there is always a long queue outside each time I go passed this place. Like other people commented, the owner had a black straight face. The service in clearing up the table was extra slow... I didn't understand why they wouldn't let us go in and sit down whilst they cleared the table! There was no sense of efficiency!
However, with a menu of about 15 items, it doesn't take long to decide what to have. We had xiao long bao which was good. Like the other reviewers said, the meat was not too porky or too pungent like other places. The skin could be thinner. Overall, it tasted good and didn't leave us thirsty afterwards. We also had hot and sour soup - totally different from all the others that we had had before - a bit more sour than spicy, it's still ok. Noodles in spicy soup was average, nothing special. There was bean sprout with mince meat - tasted a bit plain but once chilli sauce was added, it was good. Also had the glutonous rice balls - 100% home made!
Overall, once you are in, service is prompt, although not always with a smile. It's stable quality food. The old lady who is also serving is the one who does smile! |

| osmanthus soup 桂花汤丸 at Qun Zhong
The boss will not allow you in unless your party of people have all arrived and virtually has a "black" face every time I was there. The soup in the xiao long bao is less salty (than Crystal Jade's) but taste good. The Xiao Long Bao's skin is slightly thicker. When I'm here, I'll order the pot stickers 锅贴, (or gyoza in Japanese). The filling inside this fried dumpling is good. For desert, have the peanut and sesame filled balls in osmanthus soup 桂花汤丸. The osmanthus makes this desert extra fragrant.

| one of the better xiaolong bao and zha jiang mian place!
frankly i have a love-hate relationship with dis place. let me share with u y.
Loves:
As an avid fan of zha jiang mian, i practically tried alot of other ones but still found this better! It has simple presentation, basically only the sauce, the crispy shredded cucumber, spinach and noodles, but trust me, its quite enuff! the sauce is fragrant and not oily, abit sweet but not jerlak! Only thing is the meat pieces can be more?
Dou Sha wo bing (bean-paste pancake)
crispy, goldenbrown with black black red-bean paste that is sweet and smooth wif strong red bean taste.. yum (just that they can reduce the oil abit)
XiaoLong Bao
Thin skin, sweet meat stock in the bao and no smelly pork taste or strong ginger taste to cover the pork stench, my opinion better than Crystal jade and Ding Tai Fung. (only flaw: skin turns harder when cold)
Hates: (service and dinning area)
Shop owner's NOSE-in-the-air attitude, asks u for number of ple eating, if all not there, won't let you in and leaves u stranded outside waiting for ur friend to reach before he releases u into his eatery.
Staff's service
puts down the food and plates roughly, no smiles and abit rude when you want to add orders
Dinning area
Too small, squeezy and always have to share with strangers if you are in a group of 2 pax |

| Decent northern China style dumplings, rude/arrogant service, expensive
This place has a limited menu focused on northern china delicacies such as xiao long bao, hot and sour soup, boiled dumplings, gyoza, noodles.
Taste of filling for dumplings is overall fairly authentic compared to those in Beijing/Shanghai. Their gyoza is their best dish. Their xiao long bao filling is decent, but the skin clearly lacks technique since every dumpling skin broke and the juice spilled out as we tried all methods to gently lift out the dumplings from the steamer.
Price is rather expensive - 1 individual bowl (think standard restaurant soup bowl) of hot and sour soup costs $3 (only enough for 1 person)! We were also quite pissed with the inflexibility of the owner in forcing us to pay for peanuts and serviettes that we did not use and declined as soon as we sat down at the table.
We WON'T BE RETURNING here. While the food is decent, their price is fairly expensive for the amount served and it isn't good enough to endure the rude/arrogant service from the owner and the servers. Crystal Jade or Din Tai Fung clearly are similar in taste but have excellent service to go along with their food. Also - not much decor/ambience. Its a shophouse with AC and foldable chairs and tables. |
