Good For A Quick Lunch
I enjoy the wanton and char xiu mee here. The noodles are done well although there are times where it may seem a little rubbery to some. The wanton doesn't have an overly strong pork taste. When I eat there with my buddies there is usually the silence that amounts from folks trying to slurp down the noodles. As service is quick, this makes a good place for a quick lunch - just like this quickly written review.
PS: I know the guy serving the food looks grouchy, but he's pretty ok in person. Never had any run-ins with him yet.

Chee Cheong Fun + Chye Poh...need I say more??
This little known kiosk dishes out quite a decent array of my favourite breakfast foods which I'm so happy for when I need my hawker fix.
Its been feeding the office population of United Sq daily and even our friendly neighbourhood expat start their day of with a cuppa kopi-O or Teh-si over early morning gossip.
The 3 uncles that run the place may not neccessarily ever be your poster boys for the Gems programme but they sure have a system going esp when the crowd starts reeling in over lunch.
The breakfast menu offers chee cheong fun, chwee kway, glutinous rice, yam cake and the likes. I love my chee cheong fun and my chwee kway and I have days where I cannot decide. I just keep repeating in my head...chee cheong fun..chwee kway...chee cheong fun..chwee kway..chee cheong fun ...chwee kuay...until it gets to my turn and I just blurt out whichever is in my head at the point when it gets to my turn.
And then...*drum roll*...I discovered that I can have the very yummy and oily and and a bit "chow tar" (burnt) chye poh on my chee cheong fun!!!! And uncle don't give me weird looks for that either. Wahh...no need to think liao...I have my chee cheong fun with soya sauce...sesamee seed with a generous topping of chye poh and chilli on the side! The day is good with a start like that. And then wash down with a cup of Teh-si siu dai...best!

Good shredded chicken and mushroom noodles
The texture of the noodles here is good. Chewy and springy with a good ladle of sauce over it that gives the noodles a good overall taste. It does not rely on pork lard to heighten the taste so that is a plus for me.
It's a kiosk just on the outside of United Square and the staff can be grouchy. The typical "I know my food is good, therefore I can afford to be a little rude at times" thing we are all familiar with. And hey, people still go back despite this! Aren's we Singaporeans a strange breed? Haha! Their bargaining position is so strong that I did not detect a drop in traffic despite a hike in their price from $3 to $3.50 over the last 1-2 months.
The good thing is that service is quite fast, and you can be done with your meal within 15min.
P.S. - Agree that this is not a place for you if you really cannot tahan smoking!

I Love the Noodles Here =B
16 August 2007 : I came here for a quick dinner.
I ordered the Ipoh Hor Fun ($3.50). It was lovely... served with green chilli and red fried chilli paste. The gravy was tasty and not too salty or starchy.
Ambience : this place sucks if you are a non-smoker. Every table has a No-smoking sign but... there is an ashtray on every table. Be prepared to have yr meal with wafts of cigarette smoke headed your way.
