| I love pork!
If you want a good mean piece of crunchy tonkatsu, here is the place you should come to...
The tonkatsu I had was the one with a cast pan - hee forgot the name but only this one comes in a pan. What I like about here is that its tonkatsu is thick and juicy, unlike the very much flattened but plonked with lots of breadcrumbs tonkatsu that you find elsewhere. Here the one i had came with a bed of soft sweet onions and poached egg with their special sauce. Not bad, sauce is a light, soupy base and the pork still retained all its juices.
Only minus point, as the ventilation of the place in general was not too good, your hair might be have some lingering deep-fried odour so you may wanna eat and go if you do not wanna smell lik a walking tonkatsu. |

| cafe style tonkatsu sandwiches, great for tea time
i used to buy the tonkatsu sandwichese here often, they used to cost only $2.50 but now they've raised the price to over $3. kinda expensive for that palm-size sandwich.
they have a tea-time set of sandwiches with a drink, quite OK if you just want a light meal or sit & chat with a friend after walking around takashimaya.
the set meals are also quite yummy, in general i'm a tonkatsu fan.
but the prices are not cheap about $15-22++ per set depending on what meat you order - pork loin, prawn etc.
for this price i'd rather have the nicer ambience of Tonkichi which serves similar food. (but Tonkichi Ngee Ann City is impossible to get a space during weekend dinners - go early or Q like mad).
but if you're a sucker for waitresses dressed like french maids, here;s the place for you! |

| Nice Tonkatsu
I think most of us would sort of neglected this back side area of Takashimaya Food Floor and what a surprise we found here!!!
Such a dramatic comparison between the front area and this back area; still some crowd around but absolutely not overcrowded; interesting selections for dining and most importantly, area to sit in.
I instantly wanted to try their Tonkatsu as I felt their presentation was very similar to my fave one in Takashimaya Square.
Not too bad, the tonkatsu was tender, fresh and fried nicely; my set came with rice & miso soup.
Service was also good and courteous; they even provided extra bowl and pair of chopstick when they knew it was only me who dined in and my hubby wasn't.
A tiny setback for me was $2.50 for 1 cup of ocha; but they do provide free ice water.
Overall, definitely a good dinner inviting for second treat. |

| sandwich
Happened to be at Taka today, so dropped by this joint. Ordered the sandwich set for $10. Aiyah... if I'd place my order earlier (before 11.30am) then it'd saved me some $$. For $10, you'd get 2 sandwiches, 1 drink, 1 salad and 3 pieces of potato wedges. For $5.50 (morning service they call it, and it's available only from 10am till 1130am), you'd get the same thing but with 1 sandwich. 1 sandwich ala-carte is $3, so for morning service, you'd be saving $1.50.
Here's how it works, you'll tell the counter staff what you'd like to eat, then proceed to pay first. Next sit down and wait. The salad and coffee will appear within 5 minutes, while the sandwich might take a few more minutes longer. For other food items(such as ebi rice, katsu rice etc... it'll take about 10-12 minutes to prepare).
The stall does have its own tables and chairs for its customers. But the chairs looked worn and old. And as you're munching, other shoppers will likely to be staring at you because it's open area.
Salad is shredded cabbage, with 3 slices of cucumber and one lemon wedge. One generous dollop of mayo sits on top of the salad. Salad sauce is provided and you're free to pour as much as you want. (ps: probably not too much because the sauce is rather salty). Coffee I like, no complaints. The sandwich is nicely proportioned but the katsu didn't feel like it was straight off from the fryer. One sandwich means its 1 slice of bread, toasted and folded half to hold the katsu. In it, you'd get tomato slice and also cabbage and some sauce that taste like HP sauce.
Overall, it's ok but I think the morning service package is more worth it (if you intend to try the sandwich). |
