I love dining at Sakae, very consistent taste and style. You're looking at the regular dining backdrop you can expect with most Sakae establishments, specifically at their Heeren's outlet.

These old dishes don't need much introduction I think. But seriously, Sakae has never failed delighting me with their regular sushis, be it gunkans, inaris, or nigiris.

From left: Sun Maki, Rainbow Maki, Katsu Maki, Inari Cheese, Salmon Mango, Soft Shell Crab Crepe
New Food! I love new experiences! Sakae has done a great job with their new menus, very appealing and helps to rake in the profits with people ordering too much for their own good. But sadly, most doesn't taste as good as they look with Sun Maki being the only exception in this case. Others just taste overly average, perhaps we've grown to expect a high level of taste with Sakae; these dishes taste okay, not bad at all, but just lack the kick that Sakae's regular sushis bring.

Even the normal chawanmushi got an upgrade! Sakae now boast three different chawanmushis- regular, kani, and udon! Udon Chawanmushi seems really interesting but again, disappointing in taste. The udon was hard and rubbery, our tastebuds grew sleepy with their masters' intake. Prefer the regular sakae chawanmushi.
 Chicken Katsu Cheese- SGD6.99
Another disappointment. Again, we expected a whole lot better taste but what was delivered was another pretty average attempt, just what you ordered- chicken with cheese. Sorry sir, no hoo-haas, but that's what you ordered, no? Sigh.
Conclusion: Firstly, please note that all dishes here cost SGD1.99 each unless otherwise stated, with red plates down at SGD4.99 from SGD6.50! Whee, more budget for fashion! Two thumbs up for the lower prices, one for their new and very attractive menu, zero for the taste. That's for the new menu but being Sakae members for so long now, I'm certain that Sakae's still the natural choice for me when it comes to sushis. My word of advise: stick to the old dishes, they never go wrong; for the adventurous, go ahead and try the new dishes and please post them if they are good!
