A great place to grill if you are one of those into BBQ food in chalets or parks.
In Singapore , you seldom could like a place where it serve Charcoal based (Sharbu Shabu & Charcoal Grill) Food in Singapore. The food varieties are so much that you will be amazed.
Not to forget the deserts and the cooked dishes and Sushi that they served.
I went there alone most of the times and they always served me an entire table. So i must say that it's also hard for people who go solo to find places that allows 1 person a table.
Only setback is
1) It's all the way in at the end of Punggol as it is facing Pulau Timor.
2) For those who are scared of heat, it might not be a good place but on rainy days, it's very windy as it's facing the Sea.
Tried calling to make a reservation, got through the line over 20 times and no one picks up, mind you this is done within a time span of 2 hours.
Tried using Facebook's private message to make a reservation and still gotten no reply in 3 hours. When i finally gotten through a call, service attitude was horrible and hanged up my call immediately after getting information.
Absolutely worst buffet i have ever eaten, though when i had the food there 3 years ago, it was great, right now, not so much. Environment was dirty, floors were sticky and wet, cutlery and plates were wet too, all food counters/fridge were left open with dirty covers and food looks stale and bland. The meats like chicken/beef were either over marinated or bland. Fish were soggy and messily placed, had fishy smell even after cooking. Vegetables for the hotpot were not the least bit fresh, with wet enoki mushrooms that looks like it has gone bad. Sushi fridges were barely acceptable(compared to Sakae Buffets) but the rice keeps breaking apart and drops everywhere. The only upside is the 6 dishes of cooked food which is basically the only edible things there.
Dimly lit would be the best word to describe the environment. Not in the way of a candle light dinner, more of the style you would see in kampong cook houses where there is barely any lighting at all. I understand it is outdoor, but still much can be expected from this franchise. Extremely warm and packed seating arrangement, would expect this since its a bbq and hotpot, but were assigned seats right in the center of the restaurant even though there were empty seats outside. Check with the waiters and got a chance to switch to another table though.
Overall: Not Recommended.
You could get much better quality food buffet for the same price at 30++ per pax at other places, you may not get as much variety but trust me, you would rather have some good food, than having a meal that would break your spirit. Location is another problem too, though i have personal transport, it is rather inconvenient for my to get there. Second time i have ever went in this few years, though this would probably be my last. Went in hungry, came out full, but feeling cheated.
P.S. I understand most might say "what do you expect from something so cheap?", but i have been to places way cheaper and the food quality is far better than this. Some might also add, "then not satisfied don't go la! complain so much." yes, i will not go back again, the first visit was great, this one made it unforgettable, and this is just a honest review from me, it may not be the same experience as others, but for me, it was as i said.
Thank you for reading!
Start your culinary journey by cooking up something you pick from the vast array of food spread over a large area from seafood like crabs, squids, prawns all fresh if not alive and kicking. You can also make up your own meal by mixing different cuisines like satay or rojak. There's also desserts for you to be spoilt for choice to choose from. And wash all the food down your stomach with free flow of drinks from Coke to Ice Lemon Tea.
This place has closed but just thought I'd review it.. Because I miss it. I went here for my birthday a few years back! And it was a really nice place but perhaps a bit to unaccesible, maybe that's why they don't get many patrons.. Their outside view is the ocean, amazing right!!! And they have variety of meat choices, black pepper, spicy, you name it! Also different types of chicken and seafood. Love how huge their tiger prawns are. Perhaps they should consider opening an outlet that is more accessible ya
Been there a few years back, recently want to go back again then reaslied that they have closed down.
Accordingly to their facebook, it said:
This Sunday (24th May 2015), will be the last day of operations for Sakura Charcoal Grilled & Shabu Shabu.
