Casual buffet place for family and friends

My visit to Sakura last night with my wife for the dinner buffet was a pleasant one. We arrived when the buffet started, and there were only 2 other tables occupied as we were very early. Food wise, nothing fantastic. The only complains were the starchy soup and overcooked lamb chops. Otherwise, most of the food is palatable and flavourful. I ate a lot of satays and grilled salmon. I also tried some other cooked food as well but I liked the satays the most. We skipped the food at the sushi bar. For desserts, I only tried the mango sago which tastes better than it looks. We left the place at around 8.30, as the place was starting to get crowded and we were already very full. Overall, we find this buffet restaurant very affordable and suitable for casual dining with family and friends. For the price we were paying, our expectations wasn't high, but my wife did commented that food at the Orchard branch seems nicer.

Btw, I saw that a poster that says lunch at $14. Maybe next time I will come for lunch if I am on leave.

Poor, Bad and Worst Dining Experience

Worst buffet with poor service! DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY. With FB given, no acknowledgement from Management!
My family and I were at Sakura (@ SAFRA Tampines) on Sunday, 7 September 2014 @ 8pm. We left at 9.05pm as there was nothing much to eat!! Most of the food items were EMPTY!! To my GREAT disappointment, many of the food items and trays were empty and NO ATTEMPTS were made to replenish them. Many other diners were walking up & down the food aisle, waiting for food to be replenished. After what seemed like eternity, regrettably only 2 items were replenished. The attitude of your staff (Mark) is appalling. He proudly claims to be the Manager of the branch. He was at the counter chatting with a Filipino lady (she looks like one or she could be a Eurasian). They were talking about places he went with friends on his off-day. What a bad example he sets for your other service staff. At one point when I was talking to him, he did not even bother or have the basic courtesy to look up & listen to me. Instead he continued with his writing, head bent on his paper work (looks like closing the accounts for the day at 9.05pm). Downright rude!!! This is certainly not the right attitude of a service staff, even very unbecoming of a "Manager"!!
I have taken many pictures of the empty food trays at the counter. As a Manager, the guy Mark was not doing his job, ensuring that there was enough food for diners. Soup was not topped up (my children waited and waited and waited, nothing was replenished), laksa gravy was boiling till burnt, pasta was dried, burnt & not replenished. Japanese food items were empty ... together with many others. I emailed to the restaurant (Feedback Dept) on the very night but did not receive any acknowledgement from them. Just want to highlight this to all who may be thinking of trying buffet at this place ..... not a good idea based on my experience, definitely not value for money and not to mention the poor service from Mark, the MANAGER! Wouldn't want to recommend nor step foot into this AWFUL place ever again!

Worst Buffet on earth !! Do not go !

I signed up for an account just to write this review.

The ambience is like cheap chalet setting with lousy table, chairs and tiled ceramic kitchen flooring with a pungent smell lurking in the whole restaurant. It feels like a budget canteen more than a buffet dining.

Food quality: Not Fresh. Worse edamame ever. Lousy cooked food. Only the snow crab is decent. The rest is lousy.

Not value for money. I spent $160 with 3 adults and 2 senior citizen, better save up that money to eat elsewhere.

I will not visit Sakura anymore, especially Tampines Safra, don't go there especially to celebrate someone's birthday. It will look utterly cheap and disgusting having welcomed by ugly atmosphere (Dimed lightings and ugly furnishing) Look at the walls display and you will know.

Terrible Buffet Experience

For the full review with pictures, visit my blog.

To be fair, we arrived quite late at around 8 pm. However, the staff should have had the decency to warn us before we made payment that we would be consuming leftovers and that the food would not be replenished.

There was barely anything left. Most items were finished and never refilled. Barely any seafood and cooked dishes. Salad bar, desserts and fruits section were almost empty.

For the food quality, it was poor.
The sushi's rice tasted ok, but the fillings were sparse and not appetising.
Salmon sashimi was ok too, but the rest were not fresh. The tuna had a stale taste even!
Seafood were strangely saltish? The mussels weren't fresh, being mushy and saltish.
Fried food such as tempura were mostly soft and soggy.
The Dim Sum items were dry and bland.

The best dish would probably be the Satays, which had a rather tasty sauce!

For the price we paid (about S$30++ per person), the food quality and quantity were terrible.
Service was poor too, perhaps because they were understaffed. There were spills on the floor and counters, plates were cleared infrequently.

Overall, it was a terrible dining experience, and probably the worst buffet I ever had.
