Have been there several times and always enjoyed the food. we were trying north indian food, south indian, and some of the indian chinese food. It seems they have different cooks for all three regions.

Overall n I believe we tried nearly all of the vegetarian dishes there and a few meat ones. Both of us enjoy the food there a lot. Service can be a bit slow sometimes and the restaurant can have quite some waiting time, which is why I rated the ambience low, as it can be quite annoying to have people staring on you to wait until you table is free.

Must tries: south indian meal, manchurian starter

Hey, the food at this place is good - fantastic bryani and tandoori dishes. Ambience is also appropriate and service is actually quite friendly. The only thing (and it's a big one) is hygiene here is really horrible. From small things like stained uniforms and appendages of servers to dirty cups and cutlery (all the forks in the 6 sets of cutlery were soiled) - all these really takes the wind out of the place. These are oversights which make them appear like a dirty food centre serving great food. Unfortunately, this is enough to keep me and my five makan kakis away from here.

PS: I don't think they'll miss us though - the place was chock full of Indian diners.

    Must tries: Lamb Byrani

on 1 sep, my husband n i had dinner at sankranti after i googled for *south indian* cuisine at HGW (ty HGW folks!)n read a few of z reviews

we had not known dat it was an *upstairs* place n walked passed the stairs dat led to it d 1st time.

after we had been seated (rather quickly as i had phoned ahead to book) it took a while b4 we got the menus........this was rather surprising as d restaurant was less than half full!

as it was unclear from d menu wich were south indian dishes we waved n a friendly waiter arrived n recommended a chicken dish KODI IGURU with a promise dat it was spicy hot (we like it hot. we eat only chillie padis at home). And then the friendly chap went on to surprised us by saying dat if we add 2 garlic naans n a bowl of rice it wud b enuf 4 us !!! we looked at one another but like good, well brought up singaporeans , we *complied*. afterall, dis being our 1st visit , the chicken dish n naans might b enuf to feed an army !

when d food arrived we were amused ! there were only a few pieces of chicken in a small bowl. the naans were normal size but the bowl of rice was big! we promptly ordered another dish... MUTTON ROGON JOSH.

but when we started on d chicken... my......wat a WOW ! its one of the most unusual( flavour n deliciousness) indian dishes i hv eaten here or in india! the taste really belies the looks of the dish ! no wonder they gave us so much rice......for doing the super gravy justice . and d garlic naans......the best i hv eaten in a long while

the mutton was also very yummy but the amt of meat on the bone was wanting (sigh)

wat a satisfying meal inspite of the slightly long wait 4 d menu n food ,the slightly high pricing 4 d dishes n the rather insipid atmosphere!

Must tries: kodi iguru , mutton rogon josh

We celebrated a friend's b'day at Sankranti on Sunday (10 Aug) and were so happy with the food and service that we couldn't stop talking about it! :)

The food was actually spicy (ok we are all hardcore spice lovers and haven't been able to find food that actually lived up to their "spicy" label for some time.) and very yummy!! The service was excellent as well.

Will definitely keep going back. :)

Must tries: Garlic naan, chilli chicken, mixed vegetables.

My colleague decided to treat a few of us for her birthday, so we decided to try out Sankranti as it was well-reviewed on HGW and the prices seemed reasonable.

We arrived at 1:30pm and only 4 tables were occupied, so we took the corner table. We placed our orders and proceeded to celebrate my colleague's birthday where she cut the cake and distributed it. the waiter helped by providing us small plates. After 10 minutes, the food started arriving, I ordered an Egg Biryani, while my colleagues ordered several types of Naan (Plain, Garlic, Butter and Kulcha) along with Paneer Butter Masala and Chicken Kodi ( chicken pieces in thick chicken gravy) and a Chicken biryani. Both biryani's were excellent and the gravy provided for the briyani really complemented it. The Naans were fine too, with the Chicken Kodi being a stand out. The Paneer Butter Masala was a little too sweet though. I finished off with an excellent Masala tea. All in all, I would say it was a very filling and satisfying meal. Coming back to the office to work was a drag.

I would probably go again, but try more of the Andhra dishes. Besides Andhra and North Indian dishes, they also have Chinese dishes (Indian style).

Must tries: Chicken Briyani, Egg Briyani

Sankranti is one of the many new India based restaurants coming to Singapore; to serve authentic cuisine to the growing Indian diaspora in Singapore. A couple of things sets this place different from the many other who have tread similar paths. Firstly, the authentic taste because they are using cooks from India from their chains there. Next, the range of dishes that include Andhra, North and Indian chinese menu. The prices are very reasonable and lastly, the service. Polite and prompt. Recommended dishes include the biryanis, huge thalis, north indian curries and the popular chinese Indian dishes like manchurian etc.

Overall, a good experience minus the high prices.

Must tries: Mutton Dum Biryani, Mattar methi malai, pakoras
