鸡不生蛋,乌龟不上岸 at the pier

[i was informed that my previous review on the pier was errorneous, so i'm reposting here]

it was a long ride, deep into the forsaken part of the reclaimed land, where 鸡不生蛋,乌龟不上岸... arrived to be impressed by the impressively lit facade. went on to be impressed yet again, since the restaurant came in a form of a ferry, afloat at the pier.

the water was choppy, and needless to say, affecting the appetite quite a bit. seated on the verandar & served by a host of shy waiters seemed less comforting to know. our orders taken, bt took them quite awhile to reconfirm the orders. the wait for the food to be served was definately a test to anyone's patience as well.

nonetheless, took the liberty of the waiting time to venture & marvel the sea view & inhale salt via the sea breeze.

overall, the food was not something i'd be shouting about, but i guess the novelty of having to have your meal afloat & overcoming the choppy situation to stomach the dinner was somewhat an achievement i'd say.

Decent

Santa Fe @ Riverboat is a most interesting venue to enjoy a meal as it offers the dining on a ship experience without actually having to charter the entire ship. Docked at the Marina South Pier, its history goes back to 2001 when it first berthed at Sentosa from 2001 - 2006.

The sight of a lone brightly lighted steam ship is hard to miss and staff greet you amicably at the door. The interior is simple and exudes homely comfort through the use of wood and a low ceiling. There is even a piano at one corner for proficient/aspiring pianists to tinker with whilst waiting for your food.

The soup of the day was cream of mushroom and it came across as too salty and starchy. However there were copious amounts of sliced button mushrooms in it which upped the value factor a notch. The garlic bread was unremarkable though.

Caesar Salad - Nothing out of the ordinary here. The vegetables were fresh and juicy but how exciting can Caesar salad get? I would have preferred it with bacon bits though.

Tex Mex Grilled Chicken - First bite, the chicken was juicy and succulent even though it was breast meat. Nicely grilled and topped with a layer of cheese, the meat was slightly salty with a hint of BBQ sauce. However the strips of bacon didn't seem salty enough. I found the side of mash potatoes a little lacking in texture but still decent with its buttery overtones.

The above 3 course meal with an alcoholic drink came up to about $61. Portions are more than sufficient for a large eater or perhaps 2 small eaters. I wouldn't say the price is reasonable but I guess the novelty of dining on board a ship in a homely environment makes up for it.

Floating away

Like the below reviews, don't eat here if you have a weak stomach.

For the stronger of us, this is the closest you'll come to SIN on Chilli's. Yes, some of us still have fond memories of the Tex Mex chain. And yes, the Tex-Mex chicken is till orgasmic. The homely atmosphere together with the fervently Christian decor really transports diners down to the deep South.

The service here is very lacklustre. Had to explain to the clueless waitress the difference between a frozen margarita and margarita on the rocks. Maybe she will do better on Sunday when this boat turns into a chapel.

Assessible only by car. Best to get them to call you a cab if you don't drive. For a more assessible and less preachy venue, try their branch outside Far East Plaza.

Must Tries: Tex mex chicken.

Nice Service & Food on a floating "platform" :)

This is my first time eating on a floating boat but well.. I must say that the experience is kinda nice :)

Requested to sit on the third deck so enjoy the sea view and cooling breeze.. and here goes for the food review..

Ordered: Chicken Fajita - $27, Salmon - $24, Grilled Chix- $22, Pork Chop $20, Chicken Sandwich $16, Turkey Quesadillas $15

Personally i find that the Chicken fajita is quite nice.. at least better than the one which i ate at HRC. Chicken sandwich so so onli.. just like Burger king chicken burger :P, Turkey is good for sharing too :)

I shld have ordered that baby back ribs but since our orders are quite alot and the portions are quite big.. so we decided not to order the ribs.. kinda wasted as I heard that the ribs were good..

However for pple who gets sea sick easily.. I think u might not really enjoy dining here as the boat is constantly rocking from side to side.. but anyway just give it a try for the unique experience thou and the good service too :)

One down side is the parking thou.. went at 6.30pm but the car park lots were all full due to the very limited lots available.. Ended up parking on the roadside with a summon :(

riverboat

Went there for dinner today. Visited this place while it was still at Sentosa and now it has moved to Marina South Pier.

It didn't take us that long to get a little giddy, though the waters was not that choppy but still felt a little seasick.

As we went there in a big group, I had the chance to sample quite a number of stuffs (but sorry 'coz I couldn't remember the exact names, so it'll just be a descriptive kinda thing...)

For starters, we shared something that looked like fried fish fillet but it was actually chicken fillet, served with fries and corn on a cob. The fillet was tender and the accompanying dips (i think of it was honey mustard but the other one i'm not so sure...) was enjoyable. Also tried the buffalo wings (passable as the wings were quite small... still liked those from hooters). Then tried the salads (with grilled chicken) which were refreshing and tangy.

For mains, we had baby back ribs, black pepper ribeye steak (medium), grilled chicken (served with mashed potatoes and some grilled zucchini and carrots), and grilled dory (served with potato wedges)

The ribeye steak was tender and juicy and the pepper sauce was not overpowering . The baby back ribs were tender and the meat falls off the bone easily. I'd prefer the baby back ribs smothered in sauce but here it is slightly on the dry side.

Ambience was nice (except for the motion sickness). Easy to get a table during weekdays. We sat at the air-cond section while the upper deck is open-aired. Service staff were courteous although sometimes they might forget to bring you that glass of water that was requested earlier. Price ranges from below $10 for starters and desserts, to above $30 for steaks. On average the mains are priced at $18-$25 (ps: the tab was picked up by the boss, so not too sure about the pricing.. just had a quick glance from the menu, therefore pardon for any inaccuracy!)

All in all, do try this place 'coz its not often we dine on a boat.
