Was there for dinner recently and ordered 3 x $20 bowls. Servings were much lesser than the ones at Tai Seng and Jln Besar market. Soup was also very bland.
Standard of food has also dropped drastically.
Compounded with rude China staff and ill mannered boss, the experience was disappointing.
Ordered the $30 dish of turtle soup for my Dad's Father's Day lunch.
The order was completed in 7 mins. And my family declared that it was better than our regular turtle soup place at Geylang.
The soup was brothy and full bodied. The meat was tender.
My Dad loved it, so the turtle soup was a win! :)
Actually dunno whether to recommend its turtle soup or not because i fell in love with turtle soup thx to this restaurant...the taste is excellent, got the xfactor nowhere can find...the turtle meat dun have smell and it tastes great with chilli...1 sip and u know the owner is not stingy with the ingredients used in the soup,it is so flavourful and nourishing.
But then as time goes by,the decoration change a bit and the atmosphere getting weirder...u can hear the kelian turtles whining like babies and there are buddha statues all around...make u feel so guilty when eating it when the food comes so from that time onwards i actually stop visiting the restaurant unless is family outing but i only will order chicken soup.Nevertheless the chicken soup is nice and at least u will not hear the whining of the chickens but then i feel that the chicken soup is a bit overpriced lah lol
rice wise...yam rice is good but trust me white rice tastes better with the soup.
I have been patronizing this establishment since i was in secondary school.
No doubt that is is one of the best i've eaten so far.
BUT recently, i think about a year ago, they started adding GST and the price for a small, which was originally costing $8 is now $16!! and a medium will damage you at $25!!. FYI. a packet of white rice will cost you $1.20 (80 cents for the rice and 40 cents for the plastic container) and the quantity is so little that you won't be full.
When i order take-away and request for more soup, the lady who is preparing the food (i think she's the co-owner) will just remain silent and ignore your request. Come on! you are paying such high price for it, and as a customer, can't we request for more soup?
I have since banned this place as it is really way too expensive! and the service SUCKS!!
This is my first time having turtle soup and it was great! It isn't as creepy as i thought it would be. Instead, it was like eating chicken. The herbal taste wasn't too overpowering and the skin was like jelly. Food was served up promptly too. Restaurant has air-conditioning so you don't really have to worry about perspiring while having the hot soup. Those who have never tried turtle soup should go give it a try.
However, the experience could have been better if they had put a little effort into their service. The waiter misheard our order and delivered 3 bowls of $30 turtle soup. He wasn't too pleased to bring it back and our table suffered much silent glares from their staff. Their attitude went down the drain when we were billed incorrectly. We were irritably served while trying to verify our orders. And when it finally got to them that there was an error in the bill, the waitress just slammed the money on the table and walked away.
People that can't stand bad service should avoid it. People that can't be bothered should go try it! Just a heads up to check your bill before paying and make sure they got your order right. =)
