Al Fresco Roti Prata
Dec 10, 2007This restaurant is the most recent in the chain of roti prata restaurants that have tried to operate with limited success. I think present operator has the correct formula - the secret is al fresco dining by the roadside with services on site. Run by an English speaking Singaporean Indian, this restaurant is now spruced up and has enough service personnel to provide top class service, hence the 8 pointer.
Food / Beverage: Ordered a horlicks - alia, which is horlicks with ginger water - try it. Best to send you to sleep at night, and Milo. Both were thick in consistency and freshly prepared (not from the packet). Ordered plain prata (to check on the quality), egg with onion and plain with onion. All turned out weel. Fish curry was a bit to fishy for me and they obliged with chicken curry. All were tasty. Owner tested the prata dough and decided to use the dough supplied by Jubilee cafe (see my report on Jubilee). They also serve Dum Beryani with a recipe from the 50s but we were too full to try it - made it a point to go again soon.
Ambience: Must sit outside on the main road at night. It is a bit hot and still at night on the inside seats but it's great outside, especially on a cool night. The high rating is for alfresco dining style ala Paris but Singapore style. Good parking facilities too, not like Chun Tin in Bt Timah rd.
Value: Good prices, great tasting food, top class drinks - a very good mamak stall.
Service: One team serves customers on the main road, another inside - quick and polite service.Must Tries
Horlicks with ginger juice
