more please

decided to have lunch here before heading to the ben&jerry chunk fest. wah when we got there got queue but lucky we got in quick (haha 2 peeps only sorry to the family before us)

pretty extensive menu, and i supposed the don sets aren't available on weekends due to demand for soba? anyways we're there for the soba so dont care. upon recommendations from previous reviwers, we attacked the cold soba (but the next table looked like they enjoyed their hot ones!!!)

tkcapri ordered a Mugi-Cha and i kop-ed a sip (sharing is more economical right?) she liked but i dont, find it too 'airy'. more evidence that everyone has their own preferences.

she also had the Nebaneba Soba cos she wanted nato. there's lady's finger and a rather raw egg in the middle. she enjoyed it being sticky and gooie. i only tried the nato and thought it's alright.

of course there's mine! Temchirashi Soba is basically tempura and soba, and i agree with previous reviwers that the tempura is well-done. very little coating, and fresh ingedients too. maybe they thought since it's on top of the soba they should be small but i wish the portions could be bigger. eat already more shiok mah...

erms find it not so valued for money cos after taxes it's over 20 bucks a serving. portions aren't really big (space for dessert!), so a bit difficult to justify cost. also, another table had 3 friends engaged in a shouting match, so i cant quite judge the ambience part. both tk and i were kinda unnerved. maybe i'll come back the cash flow is more positive, let's hope they maintain standard c:

On a silk road....

My second time to this branch and ordered other exotic dishes.

My friend and I ordered:
- Tofu Steak (Pan-fried silky soft tofu on top of pan-fried flavorful potato top with fermented beans & sauce, Lovely!)
- Oshiruko (3 soba ball served in red bean paste. The paste is rich and palatable)
- Edamame (norm)
- Anmitsu*
*refer to other post

Perhaps, the company can be more generous of the soba balls. I was hoping for more after finishing, thank-good-ness, my friend do not want his.

Good Food

I've been to many jap places to have cold soba... this is one of the best.. the noodles is really well made, also its not sticky or soggy..the sauce is just right. ALso after you are done with the meal you can drink the sauce with the addition of "soba juice" that is quite special. service was great... the red bean dessert which i tried was quite the different to many other places. Very tasty and very well arranged and you can tell that there was effort put into displaying the different things in the red bean dessert. the mochi, jelly, fantastic

Great, fresh Soba

I really like shimbashi soba. its probably the only place i go to when i need a good soba fix. the soba is really nice and fresh and perfectly hand made. dense and tasty. my fav is the roast duck cold soba with egg. i usually also get some ebi tempura too.

High Tea Special - Anmitsu

More than 2 years ago, I dined with couple of friends for their high tea special. In fact, I totally love this place and its Anmitsu. The red bean was velvety smooth (not the ordinary red bean you get outside), the tan-yuan-like-shape was good; the feel of the soda that made it up was indescribable. Not forgetting the marshmallow-like-shape, I think it is made of soba too. Wonderful!

After 2 years (bet me for not visiting in between), the QC of the food was still as good.

My friend and I ordered:
- 2 sets of Cream Anmitsu

Something to note, this place was rather pricey given by the menu. I went for their high tea special which is between 2 – 5.30 pm daily (if I’m not wrong). I overheard a lady commented the limitation of the menu. Well…
