My dining experience at Shin Yuu was thorougly satisfiying. The service was great, and the food (in comparison to all the other Japanese buffet restaurants that my partner and I have been to) was impressive.
We chose the buffet menu that was priced at $52.90++/pax and had a variety of quality sashimi and other dishes. Shin Yuu is probably one of the only Japanese buffets that serve Ikura (salmon roe) with their perfectly-done Chawanmushis.
The sashimi selections included octopus, swordfish (which isn't always available at other restaurants), hamachi, tuna, salmon and complimentary ika and tuna belly. The sashimi was so fresh! And the ika sashimi was the sweetest ika sashimi we had ever had! The tuna belly was an explosion of fatty richness, and all the sashimis were thickly and evenly cut. It honestly was the best quality sashimi we have had at any Japanese buffets yet.
On top of that, the makis were satisfying and the compimentary dishes (such as grilled snow crab and torched tuna belly nigiri sushi) were really good.
If we had not had ordered so many makis, we would've definitely have tried other items on the menu like the grilled mussels.
The service staff, although slightly lacking in fluency, were really friendly. They would introduce every dish on the table and even offered to join another table to ours when they saw that our table was full with dishes - we were very pleased with the thoughtful service. Also, when one of the chefs saw how much we enjoyed the complimentary sashimi, he willing gave us two more extra servings!
It was a very enjoyable dinner, in a quaint and quiet dining environment away from the traffic and crowd in the city.
Probably one of the more affordable and value-for-money buffets around!
