Chilling out at the Esplanade
Jul 19, 2007Tucked away in a hidden corner next to the library at the Esplanade, the Singapore Art Cafe is the labour of love of a former civil servant who decided to pursue his passion rather than push paper. Jonathan took over the premises two years ago and has steadily expanded his menu to include sandwiches and udon so you can linger much longer on his comfy seats and sofas.
If you are musically inclined, Jonathan also invites you to his jam sessions which is held at the cafe monthly. Or if you fancy some poetry slam - it is in the works.
You will find your lattes, herbal teas and cakes in this cafe, so if a book is your only company - it will still be bliss.
A nice place to round up the evening if you finished your romantic stroll by the bay.Must Tries

Alternative Chill
Dec 11, 2007Hidden away from the shuffling crowds of esplanade, this quiet little cafe next to the esplanade library is a good place to sit with friends and chat over coffee if you are not into conversing in crowds.
They have friday (other days as well) open mic sessions for public to sing so that is an interesting thing to check out if you like to karaoke but don't want to pay =P Food and beverage is the usual cafe fares like sandwiches, coffee, cakes etc. Food is decent for cafe but not much to write about.
This place is more about the quiet time to read a book alone or to sit down with a date to chat over coffee. Sit by the windows and you get a fairly decent view of the cityscape which is not too bad at nights especially the rainy ones... There is a romantic feel about cafes and the night skyline i guess...the peace of the library helps too =) A good place to get to know someone better or to get away from it all for a while.I also recommend this place for
