DIY your own pancakes (Just eating it is too mainstream)

Full blog post at http://mons-diary.blogspot.sg/2014/02/diy-your-own-pancakes-slappy-cakes.html

I really love this new and unique concept of drawing your own pancakes and then eating it!
It really brings the dining experience to a whole new level! Not only is it perfect for family outings with kids, but it can also be a fun and interesting session with a group of friends where you can share your talent and drawing ideas on the dining stove.

At Slappy Cakes, you can order from 5 different pancakes batter flavours - Buttermilk, whole grain, peanut butter, chocolate, zucchini for $8 each! It would be perfect for groups of 4 or more as you get to try out different flavours.

We ordered Buttermilk (The essential one for pancake), Chocolate (for the colours), and Peanut butter.

Although the pancakes were not super fantastic, I think that the creative concept compensated for the quality. But I feel that it could have been a much better experience if the pancake colour choices can be expanded and provide us with a variety of colours - perhaps pink for Strawberry flavour, green for Pandan, etc etc. After all, the colours were only limited to beige and brown, which could add up to a rather dull image if not for the toppings added.

I am quite satisfied with the topping choices given which ranged from sweet to savoury and included my favourite ones like Strawberries, nuts, whip cream, and more. Savoury bits include bacon bits, cheddar cheese, roasted mushroom as well! You will definitely be spoilt for choice! And toppings start from $1.50 only.

Overall, I enjoyed myself to the fullest and I can't wait to be back for more! Surprisingly, not mainly for the food but the FUN!

Time to let your imagination run wild and may the fun of making pan cake begins! First, you choose the pancake batter. They offer an assortment of batter such as the buttermilk, wholegrain, peanut butter, chocolate and zucchini. Next, you choose fixing; they provide both sweet and savory options for fixings. At last, you make your own pancake!

Customize and make your own panckes

Choose from different pancake batters (peanutbutter, wholegrain, chocolate, buttermilk, zucchini) at $8. Toppings/garnishings range from $1.50 to $3. Batter comes pre-mixed in a bottle, just squeeze and start designing. Very kid friendly.

2 bottles of pancake batter is enough for 3 pax. Ordered a Country Fried Steak (~$19) and it took close to an hour to arrive. Told the staff I wanted to cancel and they showed up with the dish anyway.. but it was on the house! It was a pleasant surprise, other establishments would've probably made you pay for it.

Overall very affordable food, good experience!

DIY Pancakes

Originating from Portland, Oregon in the US, American DIY pancake restaurant Slappy Cakes allows diners to make your own pancakes. Encourage your kids to get creative. The process starts with picking your preferred flavours of pancake batter ($8 per portion, good for four pancakes) – there’s buttermilk, whole grain, peanut butter, chocolate, and zucchini (yes, zucchini). The batter comes in squeeze bottles for squirting onto the hot griddle — create whatever shape or design you fancy, and then customise your preferred flavours with sweet and savoury fixings ($1.50 to $3 per ramekin-sized portion) like fresh berries, chocolate chips, nuts, cheese, and ham. Finish off your pancakes with toppings ($1.50 to $3 per portion) like maple syrup, jam or whipped cream. From picking the batter and toppings, kids learn to cook as well as make decisions independently. It's also a good bonding experience.
