Read and post reviews on Southbank Authentic Thai Restaurant at its new address
Worth the effort searching them out. Used to be my favourite. But now it is a must as price is so much lower due to cheaper operating cost I think.
This is the most reasonable place in the whole stretch of Singapore River from Robertson Quay in term of prices n food. Of course not "Food Court" Cheap .Chef experience to come out with that ordinary people can accept
Saw some unreasonable review. But it was totally different. Cannot compare Boat Quay with local food centre. Food flavour was good especially the Black pepper Crab. The honey chicken was the best we had for a long time
A long long time ago, when I was still working in Raffles Place, we used to frequent this joint down the road from Southbanks, where for $ you get to choose 1 biggish dish of something and rice. As we started earning more, we discovered Southbanks. Maybe the food ain't that great, but the attraction is that if you are meeting a big bunch of friends for lunch in Raffles Place but don't want to spend too much money, this is pretty much 1 of the few places which take reservations, have large tables accomodating 10 people, has tons of food (usually more than you can eat), noisy enough so that you don't feel awkward laughing loudly yourself, but yet not that noisy such that you can't hear your friend from the opposite side of the table. And all that for $12 or so for lunch!
met up with a few friends for lunch at this place. decided on this to escape the mad and deliriously crowded lunchtime Raffles Place stampede.
well when a place close to raffles place is not overflowing with ppl during lunchtime, alarm bells should go off. but we wanted a sit-down place where tissue packets are not involved.
anyway, we ordered the set lunch. you get to choose 1 more dish than the total number of ppl. eg if there are with 5 diners, choose 6 dishes; 8 diners, choose 9. free flow of lime juice and white rice. add $1 per person for pineapple rice.
we chose the typical thai food: green curry with chicken, prawns with something (i hate prawns), egg, more chicken, even more chicken and some veg. unfortunately one of us cannot eat beef so we skipped that. none of the dishes were fantastic and truly none stood out. all were what i consider 'safe dishes'. cant really go wrong, not easy to make it good. if i had to choose, the green curry was the best of the lot (but i love green curry so maybe its biased). but considering the price, it is a bit steep for such quality.
service was quite terrible. we were seated at one end of the restaurant and it was almost impossible to get any attention. we definitely deserved more, since we are paying a service charge.
beware: go with ppl who can eat, else there will be quite a bit of wastage. also, if only 2 of you dine there, it is $13++ instead of $10.50++ per person.
