Delicious Crispy King Salmon

$2 for a burger? Yes, it is quite unbelievable that one can still find quality gourmet burgers at such an affordable price (other than McDonald's). From meats to cheese, practically anything can be grilled and the standards are consistent. Take for example the Grilled Halloumi Salad ($9+), a mouth-watering mix of baby spinach and slightly crisp Greek cheese, which gets a fresh bright punch from the dressing and tomatoes. Even fruits like watermelon ($12+) were not saved from the hot grill and ended up as a delightful appetizer served with Parma ham and rocket salad.

I would devote the space reserved originally for desserts, all for another plate of Crispy King Salmon ($23+).With a gently-salted and delicately crisp skin falling away to perfectly cooked interior, this dish is testament of the chef's proficiency. I like the idea of using sesame seeds, seaweed flakes in the creamy mash and the savoury roe toppings as they truly enhanced the taste of the moist pink flesh.

Tasteless Chicken, Poor Timing

Ordered Duck Breast and Grilled Chicken for main, with a glass of Mohito and a pint of Irish Ale. Total bill was over $85. Duck Breast was still palatable, however Grilled Chicken was totally tasteless, overpowered by a sauce that itself was flavorful as a Salsa Dip. Service was very slow, considering kitchen only had to serve 2 tables. Timing between serving 2 dishes for 2 patrons was appalling, by the time I finished my dish, my companions mason was yet to be served
Management response from Stirling, published 04 May 2015
Dear DarkMist, Sorry to hear about your disappointment. Our grilled chicken is marinated with at least 3 types of herbs and grilled over intense charcoal fire. It is surprising to hear that it's tasteless when it should at least have the charred taste. Notwithstanding this, we hope the in-house tomato salsa compensate for this. We take note of your waiting time. Do note that all our items are not fast-food, and are freshly prepared on the spot, hence the waiting time could be a bit longer than usual. Nonetheless, we will try to improve on the service timing in the future.

Sitrling, affordable western fare!

Along Upper Bukit Timah Road, right opposite the Bukit Timah Shopping Centre, is a row of shophouses, selling food and aim to make every diner leave with a happy belly.

Outdoor area is to accommodate the pub-goers for a drink and chat, while interior is more suitable for a cozy meal, as well as a romantic dinner with your partner.

Not an alcoholic drinker, we had the mocktails, Shirley Temple ($5.00) and Fruit Punch ($5.00). Both are thirst-quenching drinks and sweetness is being balanced out for a soothing drink among the meals.

Grilled Watermelon ($12.00). Recommended appetizer which uses fresh watermelon and roasted till sweet, with topped with parma ham and based with rocket salad. The striking combination of fruit and ham does give me a sense of doubt for the taste it might produce, but I took back my thought. Juicy and sweet watermelon, topped with parma ham that comes a little on the salty side goes perfectly fine!

One of Stirling's signatures, Crispy King Salmon ($23.00) topped up fork crushed potato, creamy dill and leek sauce. Crispy salmon skin is the highlight of the dish, which we don't usually get it in other places, and salmon is cooked to perfect, not making the salmon too dry up for enjoyment.

Another signature of Stirling, Gentleman's Cut ($38.00 for 300g). Between the choice of sirloin or ribeye, steak comes with avocado butter and in-house seasoning. For a balanced meal, it also comes with a portion of sauteed mix vegetable and truffle fries is not to be left out for a complete meal. I requested for a rare-done which I enjoyed it! 75% redness through the centre, the meat is soft and juicy. If you are steak-eater, and similarly like your steak to be rare done, Stirling should be in your list.

Truffle Fries ($7.00). Truffle Fries is a common item in most cafes, but what makes Stirling's version striking is that each fries are equally tossed with truffle oil, salt and pepper, thus every inch of the fries gets "tagged" with truffle taste.

Cheesy Risotto Balls ($5.00). As the name describe, the bite into the ball will release the cheese into your mouth. Not the flowing cheese like custard bun, but Stirling is pretty generous with the cheese, and the crispy outer add on to the overall experience.

Nice chill-lax restaurant in Bukit Timah

The Food It is quite a wide mix of western fare at Stirling restaurant, from mains such as its famous charcoal grilled steaks to duck breast to salmon.

Our favourite dish of the day has got to be the Crispy King Salmon ($23), which was pan-seared to crispy texture and served with potato and creamy leek sauce. The fresh and optimally cooked salmon impressed us with its taste, perfectly balanced with the creamy mashed potato. Can we have more of the crispy salmon skin as well? Possibly the best main here!

A Stirling restaurant in Bukit Timah

It's been a long time since we last visited this place. The west side's supper strip akin to the East's Simpang Bedok, this place is seemed different from its heydays with all the construction for the new train line. There're much lesser prata stalls, and a whole lot of indie restaurants and cafes on this strip. Great for us foodies. We visited one of them today, raved by many other bloggers, Stirling Grill & Bar.   It's not difficult to spot, as the sign board is pretty prominent. The incandescent lights made the entire well-decorated place all the more cozier. Also, the alfresco area is perfect for football matches gathering, after all, they have a wide variety of beers at pretty affordable prices. Plus, they have snacks like Beef Sliders going for only $2 each. What's beer without bites?   The interior is another impressive sight as well- a well-stocked bar with four draft beers on tap, long communal tables for big groups, velvet purple seats, all perfect for a couples night out or just some happy chatter. We pored over the menu and decided to go with a few of the tried-and-tested, and some adventurous ones:   Halloumi Salad ($9)Pan-seared greek cheese served with baby spinach, tomato and capsicum salsa   Délicieux Duck Breast ($25)Pan-seared duck breast with creamy truffle mushroom sauce with asparagus and oven baked baby potatoes   Ultimate Grilled Chicken ($16)Charcoal grilled chicken thigh, served with herb tomato sauce, summer vegetables and paprika fries   Signature Steaks ($29/35)  for 200/250gramsSlow charcoal grill before finishing off with high intense heat. Topped with avocado butter and seasoned with our own in-house seasoning and gravy. Served with sautéed mix vegetable and truffle fries.   Classic Crepes ($6)Choice of nutella/ lemon zest, served with vanilla ice-cream    Taking advantage of the happy hour rates, we ordered two glasses of ice cold draft beer. If you order two glasses, you get the next one free.    Sipping on our beer, our Halloumi Salad ($9) came first....
