snack time

We had a quick snack at Streets because my partner was hungry and we were going to attempt to buy a lamp at imm.

We had:

Crispy Coriander wings,
Fried Horfun with Fish and Mushroom
Lemon tea

The crispy coriander wings were surprisingly pretty good. There were 5 mid joints coated with reasonably tasty batter, though as with all chicken wings theres bound to be like a thin layer of fat beneath. It wasn’t too oily as well. Not too salty or sweet or anything. Chilli sauce is served in a disposal tiny container - which irks me a little because why use disposable when everything else here isn’t? don’t the earth.

My partner had the fried horfun with fish and mushroom. It looked very impressive on serving. Big plate and all. And it looked like it was a lot. My partner thought it was just pretty average. I didn’t have any so I cannot comment but I suppose it was like any normal horfun with fish.

We come now to the iced lemon tea that was not to be. On the drinks menu, they have a whole array of drinks, save for iced lemon tea. So we beckon this slightly old Chinese speaking (only) lady and ask her whether they do serve iced lemon tea. And she says it with confidence that they in fact, do, just that it is not stated in the menu. So we ask her, how much is it. And she goes off to check and comes back to us saying that it is $2.80.

When the drink came, it was some weird lime cordial thing with a slice of lemon inside. And im asking the lady - why do we get this when we asked for iced lemon tea? In the end, because of communication issues, and also because we didn’t want to make things difficult, we just accepted the lime juice. My partner was like, hiya shes just a trainee lah. But to their credit, they offered to change the drink, as did they offer to change the table next to us’ food because they served something wrongly.

I think my problem, apart from communication issues - the table next to us was an Indian family and when waving for waiters, the guy said very loudly - English speaking only (which I thought was quite rude but not that he had a choice) was that you know, you can be as obliging and all that, but all these mistakes reek of inefficiency. And they should better train their waitstaff somehow.

and well you do get a citibank discount but only if you spend at least 20dollars on food items. otherwise you cant even pay by any card.

Fusion?

Went w my family to IMM for brunch before shopping. Walked into Cafe Cartel at 11.15am n seated n ready to order. Then the waitress told me breakfast ends at 11am n lunch starts at 1145am. So i asked which meal should we order? She replied: "Only lunch but will be served after 11.45am" WOW!!! What r we supposed to do for the next half hr?...

Walked around IMM, found a place called Streets inthe middle of the mall. Looked at the menu n immdiately relate to HK Cafes n we decided on it.

Was hungry for noodle soup n the menu recommended Wan Ton Noodle. However decided on another noodle and here's our order:

1. Nissin noodle with luncheon meat n egg - Soup was bland, noodle so-so. Luncheon meat n egg ok. The best shock (or maybe im not into chives n fried onions), there is actually chives n fried onions!! I have been to a few HK cafes in SG n HK n i have never seen these stuffs on the noodles..

2. Portuguese Chicken Baked Rice - Smells good. One bite n immediately relate to spiced curry chicken rice with a layer of cheese. Or maybe i have not tasted the actual dish yet so cant compare

3. Mango Pomelo Freeze - Quite ok

4. HK Milk Tea - There r better ones in other HK cafes

I think this outlet got room for much more imorovements before they can be associated with the HK cafes around. With their location in IMM, biz will boom once they improves!
