I've been here a couple of times, once was in the daytime and the chef wasn't there (apparently he/she doesn't start until around 5-5.30pm) so we could just have drinks and snacks which was OK, but we went again this weekend in the evening so that we could have mealsinstead.  This is what we ordered:

Devil's chicken curry2 pizzas (margarita and beef pepperoni)CalamariMango/tomato bruschettaSpaghetti bolognaise

The curry was a bit watery and had a slightly bitter aftertaste, but the chicken was well cooked and the bread that came with it seemed fresh (not sure if it's freshly made by them).  The Calamari was OK.  The bruschetta was really nice, mangoes and tomatoes go together well I've discovered!  The spag bol was just adequate - a bit watery, not very rich and flavourful, and the pizzas tasted fine but were not a good deal moneywise - 7" pizzas at a 10" pizza price (the margarita was around $10-11 and the other one was about $13.50).

I'd heard from a few people that the food here was great, but I didn't really experience that, it was just average.  It was also quite expensive I thought.  We had 4 soft drinks, a jug of beer and one cocktail too and the bill came to $165 which is a little on the steep side.

Perhaps the Sunset Bar has changed chef/management or something since my friends went there because it wasn't anything to rave about.  I would go there again and I'd recommend it to friends because I like the atmosphere and it's in a nice location (very quiet for the East Coast Park), but I think I'll just stick to having a few drinks and perhaps some of the excellent bruschetta from now on and forget about going for a full meal.

Ok, I have been there before for drink in the noon. The waiter and waitress was nice. Had a gd day there back then.

Lately, i was back there together with my gf and dog as the weather is hot. We have yet to settle down, just at the step waiting for people to serve, comes a "senior" waitress telling another " junior" waitress that "Ask them to sit outside".

However, Im like so shocked that why this woman is so rude, as she didnt even bother to say it to me in face. Appreciates if they could have told me no dog allowed in the premises.

Nice setting and ambience, but the service and attitude destroyed all.

    1. Oliver Jones Hi Patrick,

I believe you and I met the same waitress. She also raised her voice at us , pointing fingers and all the last time we were there. Her name is Nora and she told us she was in charge yet she kept blaming all her staff, which I must say are much nicer than she was. We had a very very unpleasant Sunday and I have told all my friends to steer clear of this place. I have NEVER met a more unprofessional and argumentative service staff in my life.

Sadly, Sunset Bay is quite a nice place to hang out, too bad for that bad attitude, bossy and unreasonable manager/supervisor/in charge they employ.

We celebrated J's birthday (it was supposed to be a surprise).

The food was ok, not as bad as what I imagined after reading the other reviews. We took some photos of the food.

But I would agree with the other reviewers, the place really is better for drinks and chill out. The problem with the food (I thought) was that it was a little pricey. The quality of the food wasn't terrible, maybe just that since it cost so much, one would expect a bit more.

Atmosphere though is great. Nice alfresco surroundings. I think it's good for dog owners too, you are allowed to bring your dog in.

The service is not too bad. They let us keep the (surprise) birthday cake with them in advance.

Must tries: Scallops with cheese, mango bruschetta

The name Sunset Bay Garden Beach Bar may sound a mouthful and less than impressive, but that doesn't stop me from making it my new hangout with my friends for a nice evening chillout.

Nestled in the Bougainvillea Garden at East Coast Park, this nice breezy hideaway which offers an unobstructed seaview and lovely ambience is perfect for a relaxing night out with your date, friends or family. The breezy semi-alfresco dining environment alone is enough reason for drinkers and teetotallers alike to linger around for hours.

Just two weeks ago, I brought some friends to this place and we ordered a regular Hawaiian Pizza, Devil's Curry (with naan) and Chicken Tropicana. Sad to say, the standard of food simply cannot match up with the enjoyable drinks and location this nice bistro-pub has to offer.

For one, the Devil's Curry was too watery and the meat tasted of under-cooked, under-seasoned chicken--that really put off my friends and I - the piping-hot slices of naan tasted good though. But we're quite sure we'd not come back for a second helping next time. We were also not impressed with the Chicken Tropicana; for $20.90, you get a few small chunks of feta cheese wrapped in breaded chicken breast meat and some side vegetables--simply overpriced! The Hawaiian Pizza was disappointing too; we thought we'd be better off with Pizza Hut's churn-out pizzas.

The drinks were nice! I've to say, I really liked their Mojito! And I really don't mind some beer to follow in this comfy setting. Kudos to the friendly and reasonably responsive service staff too. The only thing is, the place closes too early--at 12am! If only they'd consider opening till, say, 2am?

All in all, this is a nice watering hole for a relaxing evening, but food is really a letdown.

Btw, will HGW consider separating food ratings apart from beverages/drinks ratings? Think it makes good sense to do that. :)

Must tries: Mojito, Strawberry Margarita Freeze, Tiramisu Cocktail

Have been watching this little pavilion being built from scratch and anticipated the F&B outlet that was to occupy it for a while. I finally got to try it out after a typical weekend out at East Coast Park.

Far from the hustle bustle of the Mac's area and the Big splash area, Sunset bay is really a standalone pub. This may be an attractive alternative for people who relish some privacy and who want to be far from the madding crowd that can be really quite maddening on weekends here. Turn a corner and collide with a toddler on tricycle. Turn the other corner and get run over by a cyclist AND said toddler with tricycle. (Somehow they just like to cycle in circles).

Had a Hoegaarden and San Miguel. Thought i tasted better hoegaarden elsewhere which baffles me.

We ordered the pasta arrabiata. Sauce was thin and drippy; didn't adhere lavishly on the pasta. Minus points. After tasting it, thought I was eating in Serangoon Road instead. How come so spicy? Don't remember Italians panting while they eat.

The beef salami pizza was rather bland. Salami was unsalted. A mushy layer of minced mushroom was between the cheesy pizza dough and the salami, resulting in the salami-pizza dehiscence. The mushroom and salami pairing was SO Off!

This place is only saved by the beachfront location and the balmy sea breeze.

    Must tries: no need

Brice: This is a great option if you want to have a meal or a drink on East Coast Park, in front of sea and cargos, without being obliged to pay a lot for chili-black-pepper-seafood stuff. The setting is really nice, the staff very friendly, a good reason why we like going there with our baby. To be frank, food is OK, not fantastic but you do not go there for fine dining but to enjoy East Coast view and breeze, which is already a lot. It is also quite close to airport which can be convenient if you want to eat before or after your flight in a nice place.

Flo: Yes, go there if you feel like Western food in a charming atmosphere along East Coast. I had salmon last time, it was tasty but not amazing. Very friendly service.

Nice place...nice atmosphere and nice food. Dog friendly. Great place to end up after a good walk at the beach, watching the setting sun etcetc. Parking very easy and staff amiable and helpful. Food is better than expected and not too pricy. Love the lights at night and the cool sea breezes

My husband and 2YO son had dinner here on a Sunday evening after bicycling in East Coast Park.

The ambience is great - outdoor dining with jazz playing as you watch the sky darkening. Kites flying overhead. Happy people strolling, biking or skating by.

The food is surprisingly good. I started with the rocket salad with parmesan and pine nuts. Rocket was fresh and balsalmic vinegar dressing was just right. But, it was the grilled salmon that was a true delight. For a simple seaside cafe, the presentation was fine dining in style. The sauce on the salmon was yummy - not overwhelming and the asparagus and potatoes on the side were just right. Firm, but tender. My son had the chicken nuggets and seemed to enjoy them. Hubby had the chicken curry. He said it was decent, but not great.

The wine was also good. We had a Semillion Chardonnay from Australia and it was priced very fairly at 7.50/glass.

The manager was a nice gentleman - we talked with him a bit when he called us a cab and he was very gracious.

The only hiccup in our experience was that the service was pretty poor. Our salad came out after my main and we had to flag our waitstaff constantly for things we needed (e.g. they didn't check in at all).

All-in-all, though, we'll be back. A very nice way to spend a family evening. And, it would be lovely for a couple or a group of friends too.
