thnx HALLOM.(: MOMO for your review

i decided to give sunset tavern a try after reading momo's review on the place and also seeing the ad on the newpaper. i went to the cafe/pub with my group of frens for dinner.

we ordered the paprika chicken aglio olio, carbonara, steak sandwich, and fish & chips and some finger food combo for starters. we waited quite long for the food. say around 30min. but i think it's understandable because it is rather packed on that day.

i would say the food is really quite good lets start with the combo. the our combo consist of some nuggets, large amount of fries, calamari, onion rings and samosa. i won't say its excellent because how great this kind of stuff can taste? its all from those frozen food then you can find in NTUC.

now for the main course, my pasta tasted nice. the spaghetti was al dente and the chicken strips were tasty and their aglio olio just tasted different from other places. different in a good way. its way better than other places. i think its one of the best pastas i've tasted yet.
here's wat my frens say about their food. the carbonara was FANTASTIC. thats what exactly she said when i ask her. haha. from wat i see the bowl was full of bacon. i did manage to taste the sauce from my stingy fren who just refused to let me try. and it tasted vry good i can say. it dun taste very "gelak" (if you know what that word means) like some places that when you eat the first bite you will feel very full and won't want to continue eating anymore.
for the steak sandwich the beef doneness was done very well and it was clamped between 2 fragrant toasted bread with vegetables in it. taste wise is great but it's abit difficult to eat because of the thick layer of beef. haha i dunno if that is a good thing or bad thing.
for the fish and chip my fren didn't like it. he say there's a very fishy taste to it but when i gave it a shot i find it ok actually. not as bad as wat he describe.
after meal we decided to slack fro while as the ambiance was quite nice and it was rather breezy. we actually wanted to continue slacking and watch a soccer match there but you know not all girls like watching soccer there so we decided to head to some other place. i'll definetely return to this place in future to catch a soccer match and this time no girls allow. hahaha

yummiliciouss! only @sunset tavern.

CHANGE OF CHEF!

i was browsing thru the previous reviews, and saw some negative ones commenting that the food aint really good. however, what i can tell you is, true! the food there last time was kinda not-so-nice as i've tasted it before. BUT! for now, please forget about those unpleasant dining experience you had before @ sunset tavern as they have already changed their chef, and the food served now is definitely worth a try!

was around sunset way with my bunch of friends, and we were all finding a nice place to chill, and of course to have a pleasant dinner together. i was quite reluctant to give it a second try at first, due to the unpleasant experience i had before, however was being persuaded to try again by my friends who wanted to have some alcoholic drinks after dinner.

my friends ordered fish & chips, chicken parmigiana, aglio olio, & the steak. as for me, i ordered carbonara as it has always been my favourite. the food came, and to my surprise, the carbonara was really really good! i like it, and it's probably one of the best i've tried before. it was alittle oily for one of my friend, probably due to the overdose of bacon. however i think it's still okay as i think the bacon adds an additional fragrance to the dish. took a few bites of other dishes as well, and all are good too.

aglio olio was my second favourite! big and fresh prawns! i don't really know how to describe the taste here. but if you're a aglio olio lover, this is something you will like for sure! ohya, i remember seeing different kind of aglio olio too, like, with teriyaki chicken.. etc etc.

next is, parmigiana chicken. it's something like chicken cutlet. however, the chicken was kinda thick and is juicy! cut in between, and guess what? cheese ooooze out. top with chef's home-made marinara sauce, and it's a perfect match! and one more thing, the portion is big!

fish & chips! probably one of the dish that everyone will like. i'm not a fan of fish and chips, but what my friends commented was; the fish was fried just nice, soft in the inside, crispy on the outside! juicy too!

last but not least, the steak. it was not bad too! i love the home-made beef sauce. it tastes really good. the meat was tender too. but of course you can't compare the quality of the meat with those high standard steak house. but i think for the price of $17.90, it's consider good enough ya?

they serve finger food as well, as well as platters that cater to different group sizes. can chill there at night!

i think the prices were reasonable too. ranges from probably $13 onwards to around $20 i think. for a nice environment, good food, big portions, what's more to complain about?

quickly give it a try! i'm visiting them soon! (:

fantastic carbonara and aglio oglio

i won't say that i'm a regular customer at sunset tarven although this is my 4th time going there and the last time was around the CNY period.
i went to sunset tavern with my girlfren yesterday and noticed that their menu have changed. being curious about why is that so. i checked with the service staff and found out that they have changed the chef. and i asked her for some recommendations.
here are the 3 dishes she recommended and which i and my GF ordered:

Garlic Bread.
the garlic bread was good. i won't say extremely good as it tasted rather normal. however when you deep it in a special sauce given,(yes! a special sauce. where would you find other places serving garlic bread with special sauce)it went from a pretty normal garlic bread to one that is simply over the moon. 10/10

Carbonara.
frankly speaking this is one of the best carbonara i've tasted so far. although the sauce is very thick which i guess is because of the egg yolk used, the flovour is just excellent. there was a generous amount of bacon and mushrooms in it and the pasta portion was just right for 1 person or maybe 1 and 1/2.

aglio oglio.
they have a variety of aglio oglio from the traditional one to those with prawns, mushrooms, chicken.
my GF ordered the prawn one. their aglio oglio tasted very different from those at other places. I just don't know how to describe it. but there's one thing for sure. it's GOOD. very good to be exact.

as for the drinks we didn't ordered anything special as it was rather expensive so we just settled for ice water.

i'll sure go back to this place more often cos i'm already missing the food there.

Food is relatively nice

I went there for my b'day together with my family members. Everything that we ordered came a little late but we understand that is it due to the no. of people that were there. It was a Fri.

We ordered quite a no. of platters, alcoholic drinks, and small bites.

It took quite some time for all the food and drinks to come. Seems like there wasn't that many service staff around. And the lightings (1 small candle per table) weren't very sufficient cos we were practically trying to see in the dark! I had relatives asking for more candles but it took almost 20 mins just to get one!

Hmmm...

Other than what was mentioned above, overall everything was alright.

Must Tries: French fries
