the wait staff are in dire need of training!
My friends and I were so excited to check out Supperclub but it turned out to be utter disappointment! We didn't make reservations for the white couches. So when we asked if we could sit there, no one told us we had to order a bottle just to be able to secure the couch space! (Mind you we had already ordered drinks) So we sat ourselves there and within minutes, a waiter came over and asked sceptically if we made reservations. When we said no and that one of the floor managers had told us we could sit there, he replied curtly that we had to order a bottle. He then marched off, and another waiter turned up to ask the same bloody question! Then seconds later, the first waiter came back to us with another floor manager, who then looked at us, and promptly said in an icy and "IN-YOUR-FACE" manner, "You need to order a bottle to sit here.” then walked off without a word! And during this whole time, not one of them even smiled!! Whatever happened to service with a smile?? I can understand if it’s Supperclub’s policy that you need to order a bottle to be able to sit on the couches. You are doing a business after all and you’re entitled to implement your rules/policies. But for goodness sake, at least inform your guests politely!! Needless to say, we left the place promptly. NO ONE wants to pay for bad service so I suggest you start training your wait staff AND your (upstairs) floor manager.

Lost in Translation
I had the opportunity to check out Singapore's latest drinking spot located at Odeon Towers. Getting there can be a slight challenge but if you are a good Singaporean and follow the directions pasted on the ground you will get there fine.
Entering the club, I was a little taken aback as I felt being transported into a place like paradise. In a pure white setting, I was greeted by a disk jockey who was wearing a white toga. Playing light music, it fits the theme as it is the soothing and relaxes the mind. Instead of your usual tables and chairs, thre are mini-tables that are situated on beds where one dines on. Remember to take off your shoes, or risk facing the wrath of the manager.
Supperclub only serves one meal and I was warned that it started at 8.30pm sharp. However, late comers should not fret as the first course only came at 9:15pm. Supperclub only serves one five-course dinner set everyday so if you have any dietary requirements you should inform the manager so that they can advise you accordingly. There is a vegetarian option available.
Down to the food, I was surprised to find the first course served in a styrofoam box. For awhile, I was joking with my dining partner that we were going to have some "hor fun" but we were in for a treat. The tuna tartare served was excellent, and it went well with the salad and sauces.
Next on the menu was the soup, which came served in a glass. I was instructed to stir away the foam but it did not seem to work. The thick vegetable soup also tends to have sediment that makes it thick at the bottom. I did finish the soup though, and its slight spice warmed me up and got me ready for the next dish.
Next was the Seabass on Risotto. The seabass was fried lightly so that the insides were still left half-cooked, which ensured that the fish was not too hard to chew. Unfortunately the piece I had left me with a slightly fishy after-taste. I liked the accompanying risotto that had a seafood base.
Next on the menu was... hang on, we had a break here as all of a sudden, there was a modern dance performance by two artistes at the middle of the hallway. After the dance item which I will call "floating in dreamland", it was time to continue with our dinner.
The meat of the night was the lamb, which was cooked medium rare and did well to maintain its juices. I did not fancy the pairing of the sweet potato that came with the dish but that is purely my personal preference.
Dinner ended with ice cream dessert.
By then it was around midnight. Hence, this is a place to go to if you want to chill out with special friends and definitely not one for the rush. If you sit next to the kitchen, be prepared to smell some cooking. And finally, a piece of advice for the ladies: Don't go in your mini skirts unless you want to give a free show.

A bit too much
We tried Supperclub at Odeon Towers on one of its first few days post launch. The owners have attempted to bring the concept of a dinner/lounge/drinks place on white beds to Singapore. Needless to say, there are hardly any seats, just a long row of beds on two levels and a cavarnous space (formerly ModLiving) in between.
The place dresses up for style but lacks a lot of substance. The idea is you have a "surprise dinner" there which costs about S$100+ per person consisting of a five course meal based on whatever the chef wants to serve. The food was mediocre at best with starters consisting of chopped raw tuna salad, then a second course of some kind of soup in a beer glass, and then lamb skewers as a main with some cous cous. The food was so mediocre that we had to go have bak kut teh afterwards to help our taste buds come back.
The big catch here is that they only serve diners altogether irrespective of what time you came. So for those who came early, they had to wait until about 9 something for the first course. Being impatient, and having to wait one hour as a result for my first course, we were needless to say on our nerves already when we got the tuna. And all the time they have waitresses coming by for drinks orders.
Then during the second or third course they had a new age singer come in to do a set that was so off tune (or maybe it was supposed to be like that and I can't appreciate it) or perhaps too new age, that we were looking forward to finishing our meal quickly. That combined with the drag queen walking around was a bit too much for our tastes, but there are people into this kind of thing.
Overall its too expensive for what you get. The long drawn out dinner, the singing and the gaudy colours make it too artificial an evening. But it sure made that Bak Kut Teh experience that followed taste and feel absolutely fantastic.
