First time dining there, and saw they had a lamb burger (@$15.90) and it's not in their regular menu, so decided to try that. Add $2.50 for french fries and mesclun salad. Mesclun salad tasty and drizzled with oil. French fries a little on the salty side.

The burger had a good thick patty and no lamby smell. Can't really tell it's lamb, actually. Some parts were bitter as it was charred. But overall, it's pleasant to bite. It has bacon strip, which is cooked to a crisps.

Service was erratic, but no service charge. Only sales tax. Water will be refilled only if you requests so.

So what if certain parts of Bukit Timah Road is prone to flooding? If they have good burgers around this area, we will still come here :-)We tried the blue cheese burger with the addition of chunky fries and mesclun salad.Requested for it to be done 'medium', and it came out really the way I like it. (Somehow we have the same scale with regards to 'done'-ness) There are many kinds of blue cheese around, but somehow this one in the burger did not 'stink'. I kinda like it.The swiss portobello burger is also quite good. It's not a vegetarian dish though it might sound like one. Made from grilled chuck beef which has a nice proportion of meat and fats. Just let the photos do the talking...More about it at http://is.gd/djtvr

Being a burger lover, reviews that this place serves the best burgers got me rushing over to try it out.

The place is tucked in one quiet corner of the building, beside Xin wang cafe. As the place is not within the building, it took me quite awhile before I found it. For new visitors, I suggest u look for Starbucks and it will lead you to the place.

They only have alfresco dining so one has to succumb to Singapore's weather. Lucily for me, my visit was in the evening. Ice water was promptly served by the waitress which does help dose the heat.

The menu offers numerous choices: Sausages, Burgers, Steak, Spaghetti. The waitress was patient and provided much description for the different choices available. After much pondering, I ordered their Burger with the lot while my girl ordered a Portobello Burger both with the set meal topup for fries and salad.

One feature I like about the place is its open kitchen concept. I have always been interested in the cooking process before my food is served. So for the next 5min after my order is taken, I was standing behind the glass looking at the chef dropping fries into the fryer, grilling the patty, tossing the salad, etc... Was definitly a fascinating experience for me. Within minutes, the order is ready having me scrambling back to my seat.

The bun for the burger was toasted. The beef patty was fresh and chunky providing much juice and favour to the burger. The bacon was nicely done, slightly crispy with tenderness. Top that up with the oozzing egg yolk, cheese and lettuce and every bite was an explosion of favours, each complimenting the other bringing the taste of the burger to a whole new level. Definitely one of the best burger I ever eaten.

One thing to note is that the portions were fairly huge. My girl had problems finishing her food with me filled to the brim. Price-wise its around $15/person but considering the quality of the food, it's worth the price.
Definitely going back again to try the rest of the menu.

    Must tries: Their Burgers!

Last minute was tasked to decide a place for lunch with a friend. Since he had no preference for aircon or not, I decided that we will try this place since it closes pretty early after dinner. Be warned that there is not much seats inside so it was al fresco dining. Since it was really hot, we asked for ice water while we decide on our food. Not cold enough in small glasses but at least they serve ice water free unlike other restuarants of cafes. We asked the waitress whats good on the menu and she said everything was good. Not a good way to answer your customers. Either you don't care about what your customer like or you have no idea what is really nice which means you have not tried all the food. But to be fair this is not a high class restuarant so to have such replies are fairly common in singapore. She did eventually recommend us a lamb burger which my friend ordered while I had a cheese burger with the extra fries and salad thrown in for $2.50. Maybe more fries and salad may make the $2.50 more appealing. We asked for no salt for the fries. Reason for this is most places like macdonalds, the fries are usually very soggy so when you ask for no salt they will have to fry a fresh set for you. However the fries were not as hot and fresh as I would prefer, which meant they usually fry without salt and add salt accordingly? The burger was decent enough. But again, the food was not piping hot as I would like it to be. Maybe they were trying to be considerate as it was fairly hot outside? Drinks wise at $1.90 for a 500ml apple spritz, and that they were willing to give us 2 glasses of ice spoke volume of how they are willing to price their drinks at affordable prices. Overall the place is unpretentious with a decent service. Read: smiling faces and free flow of ice water. Value for drinks and decent pricing for the burgers. However am not sure with burger shack just right across, which has better value? Seems like most of the students are headed there. Just don't come here when there is blazing sun unless you are assured of seats inside. Will come back again? Yes only if I have finished trying all the restuarants in singapore.

Had a great lunch recently at Swiss Grill. I ordered the Lamb Burger which was recoomended by the waitress and one of our lunch mates ordered the Portobello burger. Compliments all around on the burgers. I liked the Lam burger where the minced meat patty was medium rare and tasted very nice with the cheese and bacon toppings. the accompanying salad was great as well but after finishing the burger and the salad the fires had no space in my stomach. I will definitely revisit again!

    Must tries: Lamb Burger

I finally managed to convince my partner to head down to swiss grill for a long awaited lunch on saturday.

By the time i got there (along with my father), it was already slightly after two, so not difficult to get at table. In fact, the whole place seemed pretty empty if you ask me. Its all al fresco, and while it was a hot day, we were promptly served with ice water so the heat was somewhat bearable.

In any event, we had the following:

Spicy italian sausages - house made pork sausages with spices (2 pieces of sausages and served with mashed potato and purple cabbage)

2 orders of the Swiss portabello burger - grilled premium chuck beef, bacon, emmental cheese, cream portobello mushroom with 2 orders of chunky fries and mesclun salad

    Apple Spritzer

I had the spicy Italian sausages (to assuage my sausage craving that I had been holding within for the longest time) and this came served atop a bed of mash and a small (but sufficient) serving of purple cabbage. The mash was decent, but nothing out of the ordinary. The sausages were somewhat spicy (but not that spicy) and according to my dad, slightly too salty. But I thought both spiciness and saltiness were balanced out by the very neutral mash. The sausages were also grilled nicely (with no burnt carbon bits that are carcinogenic) and their skin crisp. The purple cabbage was essentially a purple coleslaw and while I was very happy for its crunchy tangyness although I must say when the menu stated “purple cabbage” I was expecting sauerkraut. Portion size this was enough to fill me up but not so that I was completely full.

My partner and father both had the swiss portabello burgers and this was a huge burger! (I think all their burgers are of decent size to begin with) Both of them enjoyed their burgers, saying that it was very good. Coming from my partner who does not really care for burgers, this must mean something. The side of mesclun and chunky fries (for an additional $2.50) was also in my view, worth it as an add on as it was a good serving of fries (how can you have a burger without fries) and greens to complete the meal. The “chunky fries” weren’t all that chunky, on middle ground between chunky and shoestring. Did appreciate the fact that the fries weren’t overfried or soggy. Golden brown and somewhat crisp.

We also had a bottle of apple spritzer (after I observed an European family ordering three bottles of the same for their very young children) because it was so cheap! 500ml at $1.90. The apple spritzer is essentially carbonated apple juice (highly likely from concentrate). It was a more refined and less carbonated zapple and while I enjoyed it (and drank most of the 500ml) my father and partner did not care much for it.

We did request for “less salt” on the burgers and fries and were very obligingly accommodated by the kitchen. In fact, the chef sent the waitstaff out to clarify if it was “no salt” or “less salt” and we do appreciate him taking the time to inquire and accommodate our requests. No problems with service (even though there was only one waitress on duty doubling up as both waitress, server, and cashier!) which was polite and as promptly efficient as could be from one person.

I did venture into the store (which as a butchery sells meat, sausages, ham and the likes) and realized that if you were prepared to cook the sausages on your own, they would be very cheap. The spicy Italian sausages I saw were vacuumed pack and hanging in their fridges for around $5 or even lesser (for other varieties of sausages). I would have bought a ton of sausages to bring back and cook myself but was mindful that my partner does not like sausages (processed bits of ground up mystery meat) and neither does my father (who thinks sausages and ham being smoked will give me cancer). Better cut down anyway and just wait for the next opportunity to come back and have more sausages!

We were rather satisfied with our experience at swiss grill and will be back.

    1. Management Hi there, Thank you very much for for taking the time to give such a detailed and positive review of Swiss Grill. We are very happy that you and your dining companions had an enjoyable lunch and are intending to return. To allay your concerns about sausages, rest assured that ours contain only top quality pure meats, herbs and spices. The pork in our sausages only comes from the hindleg and shoulder cuts, beef as well comes only from topside or chuck cuts. As we are a premium gourmet butchery, we take pride in the fact that we own our own production facility and produce our own cured meats, hams and sausages. Thus ensuring quality assurance and food safety for all our customers like yourself. Thank you once again for your kind words, which I have shared with the team! :)

    E. and I visited this place, on a burger rampage. We weren't spared from the stuffy outdoor seating, even though it was touted to rain that day.  In that sense, the Grill scores low on setting. It could possibly be cooler at night though.

The chef was patient as he explained the menu. Kudos to him btw for stepping out of the kitchen to attend to us! He knew exactly what he was talking about, and The waitress was apparently away. So, E. ordered the Bacon and Cheese Burger, with chunky fries and Mesclun Salad, while I had the Marinated Cod burger. We requested for cold water, and it came perfectly spiked with lemon.

    E. loved his burger. The bacon was done just nice. The beef was fresh and juicy, and the accompanying sauce went well with the meats. Similarly, I'd have to give top marks to my Cod Burger - the best fish burger I'd ever eaten. Ok, BOTH of us had ever eaten. I had the mayo served on the side, and frankly, I think the burger would do just as nice, if not, better, without it. The marinade had the perfect blend of tanginess that accentuated the fish's flavour. My only gripe about it, would be the bun. It was too moist and was getting rather mushy when the juices from the cod ran. Granted, it wasn't your usual run-of-the-mill sesame seed bun, I detected tomato and parmesan flavours in it.

The chunky fries were just nicely salted and gave enough oomph to the rest of the meal. The mesclun salad was typical, but passable nevertheless.

All in all, one of the best burgers on this sunny island. Perfect for satisfying meat cravings! I hope the Grill guys look into expanding their selection of greens on the menu though. The prices are a bit steep, true, but that's what you get for quality!

Must tries: Bacon and Cheese Burger, Cod Burger

When I saw the glowing reviews, I knew I just had to try it for myself....

The outlet itself is quite small, and when the wind blows in a certain direction, you actually have to bear with the smell of the cooking fumes, but quite apart from that, the quality of the burgers is awesome!

Burger is around $14 (add $2.50 for small portion of fries and salad), and $1.80 for a canned drink. It's nice to know there are joints out there which try to put food on the table for a reasonable price, rather than squeeze the diner for every cent possible.

Swiss Butchery has built up a brand name over the past few years supplying raw meats to establishments as well as providing top notch meats for some easy home cooking. Recently though, they have taken this one step further, by providing cooked food for busy people who want to eat good quality meats without the "foo-fa".

With only outdoor seating, dinner is a more feasible option for this place these days given the heat wave that we are facing. I recently had the chance to try the menu here, and am putting forward my thoughts on the items that I tried.

    1) Angus 200-days Grain-Fed Ribeye ($36.90) - This was executed well, and Swiss Grill was true to their word in letting the meat do the talking.

2)Sausages - The sausages met my expectations. I felt that the Pork and Cheese Sausages could have done with a little more cheese and the Spicy Italian Sausages were a bit mild.

    3) Burger With the Lot ($13.90) - This would go well with burger lovers who love good minced beef on a fluffy bun. The difference between the burger here and those of many places is that they do not try to do too much with the burger. In other words, this is a typical American burger.

    4) Irish Stew ($18.90) - This rendition served here is really heavy with strong flavours and could fill up a big man like me.

Finally, people who are looking for some roughage after all this meat in their system would do well to try the salad. It is done with good fresh leaves with a good crunch on each bite with a pleasantly sour vinaigrette finish.
