AFTER SO LONG!

Havent been writing reviews for very long but I simply have to write one for Tao's because I had such a great time there!

We called beforehand to reserve places for 8. I guess the restaurant must have foreseen that we will be pretty noisy and hence asked to push our reservation time later but giving us the VIP room instead. I appreciated this much! Because not so long ago, while we were having dinner at din tai fung, we got complained for being too noisy and that totally spoiled our moods.

We had a seven course meal for $35. There are various choices for the 7 items as well! These are what I had.

1.) Bread + bacon and mushroom gratin. Nice!
2.) Salad: prawn roll with prok floss. Very nice! they had mango slices in it as well.
3.) Grilled Mushroom. We all cleared our plates.
4.) Sorbet. The manager said to clear the taste so that we can enjoy our main course.
5.) Main entree: Spicy Stingray. I didn't find it ordinary, rather spicy though!
6.) Dessert: Creme brulee. Nice and flavourful! and not too sweet either.
7.) Beverage: Tropical Grapefruit. Tastewise is alright, but it looks kind of unappetising.

What impresses me most was the service. This is one restaurant that really makes you feel at home! The waiters who attended to us were really friendly and fun, strking up conversations with us, but are not too intrusive. Their close relationship with each other also made kept us entertained.

And you can tell they really love their work! I think this is what true service should be like. I will be bringing more friends there definitely!

Must Tries: Prawn roll with pork floss, Grilled Mushroom, Creme Brulee

great food, great service

The Tao's Restaurant at Paradize centre was quite a popular dining choice until the recent renovations. It used to have an alfresco area with live Mandarin music. The outdoor area has since been removed, with renovations still going on. It's a bit of a disappointment that the building management decided to remove it, as it usually draws quite a crowd.

Nevertheless, the recent dining experience back at Tao's did not disappoint. Some new menu selections. Decided to try out the spicy stingray as the main, which is really nice. The waiting staff are friendly and attentive; worth your well to ask them for recommendations if you can't decide on which menu item to select.

At $30++, it's great value for money. The place only serves the set menu. You'll have a choice of selections for salad, soup, main, dessert and drink!

1. Bacon and Mushroom Gratin with bread. (standard)
2. Choice of salad
3. Mushroom
4. Choice of soup. (try the pumpkin or melon shark's fin)
5. Choice of main entree.
6. Choice of dessert (recommended - Creme Brulee)
7. Choice of beverage. (try out the fruit tea)

Overall, highly recommend this place. Nice food, friendly staff and great value for money.

MRT Makan - Mouth Burning experince

My wife been to Tao's before, but that was few years ago. She had a good impression with it. And so I decided to pay a visit to Tao's for my brother birthday.

It is not easy to find if you dont actually know where it located. Because Paradize Center is under renovation and .. Tao been hide in the basement .. Sorry for them.

We went there for dinner. The restaurant has a nice ambient. Not too crowded given it was Wednesday night. The service was good. Our waiter -(the guy from the poster , maybe he is the boss? :P) explain the menu carefully to us. Friendly and not pushy. me like his attitude ;)

here is what we tried:

Starters
bacon & mushroom gratin - free flow of tasty bread.! Me like....BUT!
This is where the my mouth was burnt! The gratin was served on a metal plate .. and the waiter did told us.. "careful is hot" But when I spread it over on my bread.. put bite on it.. The first thing that get contact with my skin inside my mouth was that BURNING gratin.. OUCH! So for the meal after this starter.. I am pretty much in a injury state .. :( Cant really enjoy the food fully. Now you have been warned!

Salads
ham and spud salad - try this try this!
fruit salad - well.. is fruit.
prawn roll with pork floss - this is nice.. but only 2 bites :P

* Grilled Mushroom & Mango Sobet (only for dinner)
Grilled Mushroom was nice. But with the cost of $10... I wish i can skip. I cant recall there is mango Sobet..

Soups
cream of mushroom - my brother said. "Wow.. too much mushroom for me.."
cream of pumpkin - Was nice and sweet. in a cute pumpkin container ;)

Main Entrees
slow cooked pork back ribs - me and my brother had this, and it was good. Soft and tasty. Juicy from the inside.. and tender from the outside... :P. My brother said "taste like the BBQ ribs in Cafe cartel "

baked atlantic flounder with cheese - my wife had this, was recommended by the waiter.. but.. she made me finish half of it.. :( Should have go for other thing.

Desserts
creme brulee - cant really say, I didnt order this. But they said not bad. very eggie.
chocolate fondue - I had this, let just say, first time and last time. There just not enough thing to poke :P

Beverages
ice summer peach tea - nice and tasty peach, and you can eat the peach inside the tea pot.
ice grape mallow tea - sweet and smooth. Me likey!

Overall experience was nice. Except the me and my wife we burnt our mouth at the starter. Oh , they also give the birthday boy a slice of green tea cheese cake.. and sang Birthday song to him. :P

Conclusion:
Location - was about 10mins walk from Douby Ghout MRT. Paradiz center.
Food - nicely prepared. But the portion not enough for me :P
Value - lunch 19.80++ dinner 29.80++
hmm.. the only different is Dinner have mushroom..? I will only go there for lunch .. because I dont think grilled mushroom worth $10 :/ They got to do something with the pricing...

Friendly Staff, Good Value for Money

I went back to Tao's again for the second time in one week. I agree with the earlier comment, i kept thinking about this place after my first visit and finally decided to return.

At the price of 19++ bucks for lunch (6 course) and 29++ bucks for dinner (7 course), I originally expected something lesser delightful or lesser portion. The store indeed surprised me. Firstly you can never expect a five star food quality, but with 3 and a half to four star for 6-7 dishes, what else can you say?

The appetizer, which was the gratin, was well made and came with a thick yummy bread. For the salad I tried farmboy (the 1st time) and ham and spud (the second time). Neither impressed me so don't expect it. Then came the soup which i tried mushroom soup (1st time) and fish soup (2nd time). I would say go for the mushroom soup, fish soup was a bit too ordinary. Main entree was steak (1st time) and lamb (2nd time). The steak tasted funny but the lamb was decent. For the desserts I tried sesame pudding and creme brulee. Sesame pudding was too rich but creme brulee was just light and perfect for ending.

The staff was one of the best team i ever found in singapore, super friend and super helpful. Definitely I will go back again!

By the way, UOB has discount when i tried it. You can check with the staff.

IMPRESSED

It's very rare that I still think about a restaurant experience more than a day after leaving it. and it has been a long time since i had such great food. and just like another reviewer, i felt like i had underpaid!

Tao's has got a great system going, with a fixed price for a seven course dinner. You can still choose within each category, but it somewhat helps to save time from poring over the menu. Anyway what would be the point of having so many dishes, if they weren't good. As far as i could tell, everything that was served was excellent. You can hardly go wrong with any order.

The slow cooked pork back ribs totally left me in awe. The meat is so soft.... but maybe it's just me. The friends i were with, found the place good, but weren't as impressed as me.

To top it off, we had excellent service from Gregory and Raymond.
They treat you with sincerity, and talk you through the menu like a friend. The place had people queueing outside, so while our desserts were being served, they offered to give us a 10% discount if we left early.

You can imagine the place to be somewhat fine-dining, but in a noisy environment, instead of a posh one (the noise from diners it attracts). It's not perfect for a first date, coz it's not overly romantic nor quiet. The value is quite a steal, I've since been spreading my experience by word of mouth to all my friends.
