I really dont understand how she got that name for her cafe.
Oct 22, 2009Awesome!
I'm a tea lover, but im a loser when it comes to brewing, so this is where I get my kicks!
I got to know about this cafe when I was looking for tea places online, and I came to find out that the owner of this cafe is an avid tea lover, and brews the best 8 treasures her foodie friends have ever tasted.
she was pressured by them to open up a tea cafe, and so TBZM was born.
When i first went I tried her 8 Treasures tea and my goodness, it was awesome.
Was served with a chinese pinapple tart (i think) in a very exquisite set up.
Im very observant so i appreciate the nice little minute details that they put effort in, which include little stickers on their straws for the cranberry tea that my partner was having.
She's an avid tea lover as well, and she thanked her heart out for introducing the best cranberry tea she had ever tasted. Though a little sweet, she could taste the cranberry very well and it was complemented very well with some chinese fish crackers.
On my 2nd visit, I had Pear Tea! ( i never knew that such a tea actually existed...)
I loved it, nevertheless, and you should take a look at the pictures, it really is a nice set up.
I gave the F/B a 9 because though i have not tasted the food, the tea was excellent and they deserve it.
The ambience is perfect because, there is nobody around. I would usually spend hours, from 12/1 till 6/7 when they are closing. Its best to spend your time there with a loved one or a good friend you could talk with for hours.
The prices are comparable to Starbucks or Coffeebean coffees, because this is actually good tea!
Service got a low 5 because well.. the staff cant really speak english.
but who cares! its the tea that matters, in the end.Must Tries

If you're not in a hurry...
Dec 2, 2008TBZM is the place to go!
When I first came to this place last year, it was with a bunch of other foodies (for X'mas exchange) and I thought that I was brought to another world. There is a certain charm about TBZM which is...well...calm and serene.
Service can be a bit slow but I think that's the beauty of TBZM. I ordered their Tea Egg ($3.50) which is actually hard boiled egg with a runny yolk, submerged in a fragrant and flavourful tea soup/sauce/gravy. This is my favourite item to order and although it takes a while before it comes to your table, I believe you will never eat other tea eggs again! HahA.
S ordered a Lychee Tea ($10), which I regretted not ordering because it tasted everything of the fruit! I had my usual Red Date Tea ($8). But you will really be spoilt for choice at TBZM, because they have many different teas from different countries. I think their snack list is not extensive, but very unique (think pomegranate seeds etc).
Unfortunately, TBZM doesn't open till late (they close at 7pm) and it gets really crowded on weekends. I do suggest calling up to reserve a space if you are heading down. Hope to see your reviews soon! (:Must Tries

Get ripped off elegantly
May 27, 2009A place to swindle Japanese tourists: pretty presentations, delicate portions, cosy settings.
Look deeper, and you will realise you are paying criminally exhorbitant pricing for junk food like sweet cookies, kiam kanna, deep fried chicken wings, and tea eggs that taste better at your neighbourhood medical hall.
But heck - they are all served in exotic crockery and came with fancy names. Indulge....Spent about

Tea with Bone or Tea with Bonus?
Mar 30, 2009I was first introduced to this place by a food buddy of mine. We were there on a weekday afternoon after our lunch at the Hainanese coffee shop near by. On a week day afternoon, I thought this place would be packed with lunch crowd but no... it was so quiet i could hear a pin drop (we were the only customers). After my first visit, I told myself I have to go back again. And i did just that over the weekend.
On the weekend, it was more crowded and lucky I called before hand to make reservations and had the best seats of the house - tucked right in the corner right by the window.
This tea place not only serves Chinese Tea, but an assortment of Japanese and English teas. Like what the other reviews have pointed out, the tea is served with a small side condiment - cookie, pastry, chips etc. The presentation of the tea is done very exquisitely and you can feel a lot of effort have been put into preparing the tea.
For my second visit, I ordered the Peko Orange tea (served with coconut cookie thins) and 8 Treasures tea (八宝茶) (served with warm pinepple tarts). I also ordered Tea Wings and Cucumber sandwiches. I was not too impressed by the tea wings but the cucumber sandwiches... ummmhummm... just set my mouth salivating. Cucumber slices were sliced up very thinly, dashed with japanese seaweed powder, sesame seed and sandwiched between 2 very very thin soft white bread (the bread is possibly pressed or rolled thinly).
If you want to have tea for a change instead of coffee or if you want to just get away from the usual Starbuck, Coffee Beans or Coffee Club, this is the place for a nice Saturday (they are closed on Sundays) afternoon chilling out with friends.Must Tries
