Good thai food
29 Aug 2012Dishes I like at Thai Express - phai thai, green curry, thai laksa, and the tom yam. Overall, a good place to have thai food. Skip the prata looking dish that comes with curry. The set menus, although reasonable price, somehow do not taste as good as the ala carte dishes.

Revamped Thai Express menu is a hit!
21 Jun 2012We hadn't eaten at a Thai Express for a while. Last week, looking for something to eat whilst at Jurong Point we found a row of restaurants under a glass roof several floor above. It was nice and light and felt like eating outdoors but with aircon!
We had some of the set meal deals which provided 3 courses of food at a bargain price. We had the crispy pancake and the green curry set and tom yum fish set which included salad and a dessert. Everything was fresh and fragrant and delicious. The crispy pancake tasted great but wasnt very crispy.
Overall it was tasty, efficient service and very reasonably priced.

Express dinner
22 Apr 2012This restaurant chain has been popping up everywhere now I’m sure no one is unfamiliar with it. Though it’s our first time dining at this outlet, we’ve done so several times at CityLink.
I’ve noticed the promotion of Masaman Curry and Sa-nook dishes for a while and since our last visit to Thai Express was ages ago, we decided to try them for dinner.
The masaman beef curry with thai-style pancake ($13.90) came on a long wooden board on which lied a pot of curry with six slices of pancake by the side. It’s a bit of a wonder that the gravy wasn’t very spicy, though it’s thick and fragrant with spices. The beef chunks weren’t too tough and they were mixed with potatoes. I would’ve preferred plain rice with curry but the pancake worked as well due to its crispness. However, it just wasn’t good at soaking up the gravy.
As for the sa-nook thai green curry chicken fried rice ($12.90), it’s presented on a tray with a bowl of soup, salad and dessert.
The thai green curry chicken fried rice packed a considerable amount of heat but it lacked any fragrance. Embedded in the mound of rice was chicken, green and red chilies.
We liked the chiangmai vermicelli soup which had abalone mushroom and corn swimming in a light broth, and it’s accented with a mild spiciness.
The pomelo salad came with chili, crushed peanuts, dessicated coconut and lettuce. A bit one-dimensional since I expected a more pronounced zestfulness in the dressing and the lettuce was wilted.
Our dessert was sweet black glutinous rice with young coconut and longan. It wasn’t overly starchy or sweet and the fruity bits were delectable.
As with our previous experience, the dishes weren’t particularly outstanding but decent enough for a quick meal. Iced water was served right after we placed our order and food arrived in a timely manner. Efficiency wasn’t an issue but we really didn’t appreciate the brusqueness of a PRC waitress.
