Secret Thai Hideout
Jun 20, 2007This place has been around for a few years and is owned and run by Thais. So must be authentic! Apparently the owner also runs E-Sarn Thai at 6th Avenue. It's hidden in a row of shops just opposite Coronation Plaza, hence it's existence is only known to a select few. Still the place is always busy.
Been here several times and am quite pleased with the food. Having been to Thailand a couple of times, I can vouch for the authentic taste of the Thai food here (actually better than some restaurants in Thailand). From the stuffed chicken wings to the olive rice, they've got most of the regular Thai dishes on their menu done fairly well. Pineapple rice doesn't come in a Pineapple tho, but that's a minor point.
On my last trip there, was pleasantly surprised to find them serving Khao Soi! Have been searching for this Thai Curry Chicken Noddle dish since I got addicted to it from my trip to Chiang Mai. This tasted like the real thing - delicious! Couldn't stop slurping down the curry!
Ambience wise, the place is cluttered with photos/Thai relics bearing the semblance of the Thai King, as well as some soccer paraphernalia. Some Premier League teams have actually been brought here whilst touring through Singapore I think! Heck, you're here for the food right? This place is more like a family restaurant, so no need to bother with ambience.
Service is good (Thai service is never a let-down), prompt, and they're proficient in English. Have a look at the posters out front on the way in. They sometimes have "specials" that don't appear on their regular menu like the above-mentioned Khao Soi or Mango Sticky Rice.
For hearty Thai food at a great price, this place is really hard to beat.Must Tries
Khao Soi if they still have it!

unadulterated pleasures
Nov 22, 2008again, I let my cravings take over the drive home. Stopping halfway with my bf at the thai noodle house to grab a simple thai meal.
We had the seafood phad thai, thai green curry, thai ice tea and a simple chinchow. Of all the fare, the thai green curry emerged victorious once again! With the aromatic flavor of spices and coconut milk wafting thru the delicate dish, it was a sure winner. Large chunks of chicken strewened all over had readily absorbed the flavors of the curry and were wonderfully tenderised. And of course, the addition of brinjal was excellent in the dish, providing a mushy and soft component to the otherwise rich dish.
The thai ice tea was authentic as well, similar to the ones I had in thailand.
Overall, a rather simple place with unadulterated thai foodfare. If you don't mind the rather uninteresting ambience and yearn for some authentic thai food at reasonable prices. Then this would be a safe bet!Must Tries

Quick Thai Fix
Sep 23, 2008For those who just want simple Thai family/ street fare at affordable prices, this little eatery will not disappoint. Nothing fancy but will satisfy for a simple and quick meal, when dining alone or in small groups of no more than 4. The place is small and tends to fill up fast so not too suitable for big group of diners, young children who need space to run or long lunches.Must Tries

Authentic Thai
Mar 18, 2010The one running the place definitely is Thai and therefore the dishes are pretty authentic. Tried the tom yum seafood, seafood pad thai, mango salad and red rubies dessert. All the dishes were true to the taste that one would experience if one eats in Bangkok. It's not high end cuisine style; in fact, presentation wise, quite home style, quite unpretentious & simple. But taste wise is probably one of the more authentic ones we can get for a reasonable price in aircon comfort.
The restaurant, like its food, is simply furnished with pictures of the Thai King & Queen on the wall. Also, I must add the parking in this locality can be quite challenging though.
I didn't get to see the bill so my amount spent is an estimate only.

Beef Noodle Soup a Fav
Feb 1, 2010I hear this is one of the places for "unadulterated Thai fare", and when you step in you would probably be convinced so, with the walls adorned with pictures and posters of Thai kings and other elements of Thai history. It's a pity that I didn't get to try the usual tom yum and green curry because everyone else was tucking into their soup-based noodles, so it just means that a second trip is on the cards in future :)
Crispy Fried Beancurd:The batter was very light, and so helped to retain the flavour and texture of the tofu inside. Tastes better with the spicy chilli dip served alongside it.
Phad Thai: The phad thai was alright but just a bit too much beansprouts for my liking. As you can see, they're quite generous with the seafood ingredients, which is always a good thing!
Beef Noodle Soup: I have to admit I didn't taste this, but everyone who had this said it was good because of the beef balls, beef slices and beef chunks... Good for those who love their beef.
Tanghoon Fishball Soup: Quite ordinary type of fishball soup.
I think I must return soon for the tom yum and green curry! And maybe the fried rice too? Haha, I'm hungry just thinking about it.

thought it was better the last time?
Sep 5, 2009Worked late and decided to pop in for a quick dinner.
Ordered the tomyam soup and green curry chicken.
The tomyam this time round seemed " powdery". The last time i tried it wasnt like this.. did i remember wrongly? Thought their chef is thai? this soup isnt't very autentic then!
Green curry made up for the disappointing tom yam soup.Must Tries

AUTHENTIC THAI FOOD!!
Apr 5, 2009need i say more?
the thai iced coffee and tea; a must try!
my sister had the seafood tom yam noodle soup and she simply loved it; the soup wasn't too spicy and the lack of the 'powdery' taste you gt when you buy tom yam soup outside is definitely a plus!
the olive rice my brother had was simply scrumptious! the rice was really fragrant, really different from the ones you get outside, where you hardly see any olives at all.
the beef soup comes with a generous serving of beef shin, beef balls and beef slices, really loved the soup and i bet it'd taste really nice with noodles!!
the green curry; you can choose between beef or chicken. i took the chicken, their meat was really tender! and the curry wasn't too spicy either!! a real delight i must say.
for desert we had the thai mango with sticky rice, sweet mango and best of all, the sticky rice was served warm! unlike the usual cold ones you get from outside. and i heard thay they only sell this dish when the mangoes are in season and sweet! try it now before they're out of season and you'd have to wait~
the red ruby consist of water chestnut coated with some jelly like substance and coconut milk, suitable for those sweet tooth people out there.
though the place's kinda small and not very well furnished, but the food's more important right? definitely going back there!!Must Tries

Thai Chinese Food
Aug 14, 2008This is not the best Thai food in Singapore, but it will do if you are looking for a simple fare without exhorbitant prices.
Located in Bukit Timah, it is run by localised Thais who cook relatively good Thai food. Feeling a little sick, I figured that the beef soup would be a comfort food, which it was. The beef was the brikset portion but it was boiled until it was very tender. Good stuff!
I also tried the Thai omelette, which was basically eggs that you can easily fry at home. Nothing special here. The Kai Lan gets the same comments as the ommelette.
So overall, this is not your gourmet food, but if you are feeling lazy to cook then this may be a good choice for some home cooking.Must Tries

decent thai food
May 2, 2008We had a quick (an early) Saturday dinner at Thai Noodle Hut, given that we were around the coronation area.
We had:
Baby Kai Lan (stir fried green vegetables with garlic)
Thai Green Curry Chicken
“Pad Thai” (Fried Thai Noodle with egg, chicken meat, vegetables and seafood)
Fried Rice with Crab meat, egg and vegetables
Thai Iced Tea
The kalian was served first and it was very good. Well possibly a little oily, but the kai lan was nevertheless reasonably crunchy with a subtle taste of garlic.
The thai green curry chicken was pretty reasonable. Its quite coconutish and not that spicy, and it comes with I think eggplant. Portion wise the bowl it comes in looks rather small, but its an okay portion for what you pay. (I think somewhere along the lines of $8 or so.)
I had the pad thai (which was pretty standard pretty standard) which I would have enjoyed more if the waitresses had bothered bringing me the condiments (nuts and red pepper flakes). I like my food spicy, so without the condiments (which I totally forgot myself and hence did not ask for) it was less flavourful, and quite sweet actually. It was a pretty ok portion for the price.
My partner had the crab meat fried rice, which at first glance when served, looked terribly plain and white. But I had some and well – I think if youre a big fan or crab meat fried rice you’ll like this. My partner did, but it was a tad too plain (looking) for me even though the crab meat taste was fairly obvious when eating the fried rice.
My partner had the thai iced tea which I tried – and it is quite a thick, relatively rich and sweet concotion. I don’t drink coffee or tea usually but I suppose that was pleasant enough. My partner loved it.
Service wise I thought they were slow. Apart from ordering and serving you the one mandatory round of water, they don’t come back after all your food dishes arrive. They don’t offer condiments, and if you want to settle your bill fast (waving your hands and waiting like 10 minutes does nothing) you may as well walk to the counter.
So while the food is okay, and the general consensus that this is a relatively cheap place (I don’t really think it is that cheap because papaya salad is sold at the cost of $9) service could be improved. And it isn’t that totally cheap. Its okay.I also recommend this place for
