Previously visited 1/2 of botanic garden from Tanglin entrance..now went back for the other 1/2 via circle line mrt station entrance. Before going in, decided to have a simple lunch at Thai Noodle House nearby.

The deco is simple, reminds of me of eating place in Thailand...except this has air-con. When I went in for lunch, the place is half full and half reserved...only left 1 table just nice for me :-)

    Tried

    - Green curry chicken ($9): Highly recommended. The curry is not the very spicy and thick type, but the fragrance is very nice. There's many pieces of chicken as well; generous serving. One of the better green curry I have tried.

    - Rice ($1): Had to order this because the green curry does not come with rice.

    - Phad Thai, seafood ($8): Recommending this too. Phad Thai tastes just as good as the other authentic Thai restaurant. The seafood is fresh.

    - 2 ice water ($0.40): considering no service tax and GST etc, its quite reasonable to pay for this.

Will definitely return to this if happen to be nearby. But I would like to try curry wok restaurant first next time since it is just next door.

    Must tries: green curry

Best friend returned from years in Sydney so a trip to enjoy Thai is in place. So 3 best friends went to try this little joint I've been meaning to try. Problem with me is that I have bug eyes and even my best friends find it difficult to restrain me. So we had:

    1) Claypot Tanghoon - the tanghoon had fully soaked in the yummy broth without being limp. A very good Claypot indeed!!

    2) Chicken Green Curry - another winning dish with good flavour and fresh ingredients.

    3) Tom Yam Soup - fiery, potent, Yumz

    4) Mixed Beef Soup - I thought the Tom Yam will overpower my tongue to taste anything else but I was wrong. The beef slices and soup held its own and didn't fail to impress. Good job!!

    5) Spicy Potato Leaves - spicy and nice

    6) Stuffed Chicken Wings - it's stuffed alright... Crispy and chocked full of ingredients inside the nicely fries exterior. I found it a little too dry tho. :P

    7) Desserts - B had mango over sticky rice which she liked and I had my usual steam tapioca with coconut syrup, also very yumz. A was just amazed that we could fit so much in our bodies. Haha...

It being a hot day so we had 2 rounds of drinks and ate till they were closed for lunchtime. Will return again for good Thai when in the area.

Have always liked and often come to this cozy family run restaurant with my family. Usually quite crowded for dinner, but thus far could get a table in this small eatery. Favourite dishes include the stuffed-chicken wings ($9 for 3 pieces), seafood tom yam ($9.50/ small), sticky rice/mango dessert ($7) etc..They have serve thai noodles etc..Usually we do not spend more than $20 per person.

Please note they now charge 20cents/cup of water. So probably I won't come that often anymore since I dislike restaurants not having the courtesy to serve a cup of cold water free for their patrons in this hot weather!

    Must tries: Stuffed chicken wings

Finally managed to dropped by at Thai House yesterday, was full of expectations of the food, but unfortunately was a little disappointed. Instead of sharing dishes, friend and i decided that we will each other our separate meals. Friend ordered the Pad Thai while i had the Tom Yum noodles soup.

Pad Thai: Had a few mouthfuls of friend's pad thai, felt that it was not spicy enough and too slimy and oily, a little on the mushy side.

Tom Yum Noodles: Had no kick, lacking in the lemon grass and kaffir lime leaves flavour and again it is not spicy enough. (Hmm having commented that it is not spicy enough, i must admit though that i have a high tolerance of spicy food) Had to add more chili padi into the noodles. But the main gripe i had was really the Lemon grass flavour was lacking and it tasted more like tomato soup at some point. Maybe the taste have been watered down for the Singapore or maybe the Caucasian palette.

Thai food remains one of my favourite cuisines, for its rich flavours of spicy, sour, sweet and salty, yet not being too overwhelming. The seemingly harmless tom yum soup that can send quivers down the spine, and Pad Thai which is the ideal example how 4 flavours can go together on a noodle dish and still taste perfect.

The hunt for Thai food is never ending. From the stalls at Beach road, to eateries contemporary twists found in mall, they just do not feel the same as those found in the land of smiles.

A friend recommended this little family-based eatery tucked away at the side of Coronation Plaza. It is inconspicuous and would most likely be missed. Look out for “Thai Noodle House” with rows of scrumptious looking Thai cuisines picture at the entrance.

    The Ambience

Interestingly, it was an instant memory trip back to Bangkok upon entering the shop. With yellow and green walls, Thai cravings and relics, pictures of the Thai King, and a framed red Premier League shirt bearing autographs, you can almost say there is neatness in this ‘mess’.

Opened by a Thai couple Madam Achara Siripong and her husband, you can be assured of a certain authenticity in its food selection.

    The Food

The recommendations include Tom Yum Noodle Soup ($7.00), Thai Green Curry Chicken Noodle ($7.00), Thai Belachan Chilli Fried Rice with Chicken and Egg ($8.50), Fried Beef and Basil Leaf Over Steamed Rice ($8.50).

I had a Thai Olive Rice ($8.50), Fried Sambal Kangkong ($7.50) and Thai Green Chicken Curry ($8.50). Although I am not a rice lover, the olive rice with its generous portions of Chinese black olive and minced pork has a right fluffy texture with light fragrance. It didn’t taste like the ‘normal’ Thai rice we were used to eating, and was right to the bite without the dryness.

The rice went with the fried kangkong, which was fried properly so that it wasn’t too soggy or crunchy.

The green curry had a decent amount of ingredients, wasn’t too spicy but could be a little too ‘lemak’ (coconut taste) for some. The Thai Ice Tea ($3.00) on the contrary was slightly diluted for my liking, but would please those who do not like it too sweet.  There is more good news – no GST or service charge.

For this no-frills family eatery, with its signature Thai friendly service, I would gladly pay for service though. Definitely a place for authenticity and good Thai memories.

Thai Noodle House is one of the better Thai restaurants around. It's run by Thais, so you know you're getting the real deal. Although some of the dishes are a little watered down for the local/Caucasian palate, most of the dishes are still fairly authentic. Sometimes, during a lull period, you can hear a little Thai music wafting through the kitchen. The restaurant is homely, like a dining room of a Thai friend's house, and prices here are similar to most cze char places.

    We ordered:

    1) Sweet Potato-Leaf with Thai Chili Paste ($8), which was delicious. Vegetables were blanched just right, and the chili was sweetish, and prawnish

    2) Stir-Fried Pork with Thai Chili Paste, Onion and Basil Leaf ($12), which was standard fare

    3) Tom Yum Soup with Prawns ($9.50). The soup was disappointingly watered down (I noticed a fair bit of Caucasians dining so the kitchen could have watered down their spice levels to suit the Caucasian palate), but the prawns were sweet, fresh and plentiful.

    4) Beef Noodle Soup ($7), with sliced beef, minus coriander and beansprouts. I love the rich beef broth, thin slices of tender beef and silky rice noodles.

    Must tries: Beef Noodle Soup

The one running the place definitely is Thai and therefore the dishes are pretty authentic. Tried the tom yum seafood, seafood pad thai, mango salad and red rubies dessert. All the dishes were true to the taste that one would experience if one eats in Bangkok. It's not high end cuisine style; in fact, presentation wise, quite home style, quite unpretentious & simple. But taste wise is probably one of the more authentic ones we can get for a reasonable price in aircon comfort.

The restaurant, like its food, is simply furnished with pictures of the Thai King & Queen on the wall. Also, I must add the parking in this locality can be quite challenging though.

I didn't get to see the bill so my amount spent is an estimate only.

Must tries: tom yum goong, pad thai, salad

I hear this is one of the places for "unadulterated Thai fare", and when you step in you would probably be convinced so, with the walls adorned with pictures and posters of Thai kings and other elements of Thai history. It's a pity that I didn't get to try the usual tom yum and green curry because everyone else was tucking into their soup-based noodles, so it just means that a second trip is on the cards in future :)

Crispy Fried Beancurd:The batter was very light, and so helped to retain the flavour and texture of the tofu inside. Tastes better with the spicy chilli dip served alongside it.

Phad Thai: The phad thai was alright but just a bit too much beansprouts for my liking. As you can see, they're quite generous with the seafood ingredients, which is always a good thing!

Beef Noodle Soup: I have to admit I didn't taste this, but everyone who had this said it was good because of the beef balls, beef slices and beef chunks... Good for those who love their beef.

Tanghoon Fishball Soup: Quite ordinary type of fishball soup.

I think I must return soon for the tom yum and green curry! And maybe the fried rice too? Haha, I'm hungry just thinking about it.

For pictures, head on here at my blog!

Worked late and decided to pop in for a quick dinner.

Ordered the tomyam soup and green curry chicken.

The tomyam this time round seemed " powdery". The last time i tried it wasnt like this.. did i remember wrongly? Thought their chef is thai? this soup isnt't very autentic then!

Green curry made up for the disappointing tom yam soup.

Must tries: Green curry, beef noodle soup

    need i say more?

the thai iced coffee and tea; a must try!

my sister had the seafood tom yam noodle soup and she simply loved it; the soup wasn't too spicy and the lack of the 'powdery' taste you gt when you buy tom yam soup outside is definitely a plus!

the olive rice my brother had was simply scrumptious! the rice was really fragrant, really different from the ones you get outside, where you hardly see any olives at all.

the beef soup comes with a generous serving of beef shin, beef balls and beef slices, really loved the soup and i bet it'd taste really nice with noodles!!

the green curry; you can choose between beef or chicken. i took the chicken, their meat was really tender! and the curry wasn't too spicy either!! a real delight i must say.

for desert we had the thai mango with sticky rice, sweet mango and best of all, the sticky rice was served warm! unlike the usual cold ones you get from outside. and i heard thay they only sell this dish when the mangoes are in season and sweet! try it now before they're out of season and you'd have to wait~

the red ruby consist of water chestnut coated with some jelly like substance and coconut milk, suitable for those sweet tooth people out there.

though the place's kinda small and not very well furnished, but the food's more important right? definitely going back there!!

Must tries: green curry, thai iced tea and iced coffee, tom yam soup, mango with sticky rice
