A modest family run business, The Baker's Story sells sweet treats ranging from sundry of their trademark cheese brownies, cheesecakes, durian cakes and tiramisu.

Imagine my ebullience when I read here that one of the cheese brownies have something to do with mint. Oh goody! Can't wait to try.

Taking the first bite, I thought that Mint Cheese Brownie ($2.20) is a refreshing and innovatory novelty from the commonplace desserts. Quite frankly, this is the first time I've heard of cheese brownies and I do like the sound and taste of this one.

On the contrary, Chocolate Chip Cheese Brownie ($2.20) and Cheesecake ($3) paled in comparison. Both were relatively insipid (maybe cos the mint is more strongly flavoured), especially the cheesecake had no cheesy taste to it. The cake is more moist than creamy and the biscuit base was just miserable.

There was not much service to speak of. We were given 2 plates each when a friend and I ordered the Mint Cheese Brownie and Chocolate Chip Cheese Brownie to eat in. I decided to try the Cheesecake after the pleasant tasting of Mint Cheese Brownie and the auntie serving me just took the cheesecake from the display cabinet and place it on the counter instead of serving it on another plate. I had to handcarry it, literally, to the table a stonethrow away and put it on the predecessor's paper plate.

While I'm newfangled of my goodies, now that I've savoured, I'm ready to move on.

    Must tries: Mint Cheese Brownie

    1. Hui Yuan I don't understand.
I like their cheese brownies... the mango and orange cheese brownie is quite good.

    2. alphelle I think the cheese brownies are a novelty but not something that I'd come back for even though I live 10 min away by car. If I'm in the area, maybe I'd go try the mango and orange cheese brownie. :)

The Royal Choc truffle is a small slice of rich choc truffle which can satisfy ur sweet tooth.

There's a layer of crispy biscuit @ the base however was not that crispy. The mousse is quite rich but no alcohol added... so sad :(

The sponge is kinda dry though perhaps have been left in the fridge for quite some time. Nevertheless, still worth a try.

The chocolate fudge. This should not be called chocolate fudge but chocolate mousse instead! It was not fudgy but moussy. A layer of chocolate mousse followed by chocolate sponge.

The mango cheese brownie is good. It's not those typical brownie dat u would have to eat it warm to make it soft. It's moist, rich in cheese n chocolate. The mangoes were the fresh n ripe ones. However, i still think mangoes, cheese n the chocolate jus do not complement each other. The original would taste better.

    Orange Cheese Brownie($2.80)

Similar to the mango and original cheese brownie. It's just the addition of orange flavour to it. However i felt that this is much better than the mango flavour as the orange flavour is just nice and goes well with the smooth chocolate and cheese

    Coffee Cheese brownie($2.20)

Coffee flavoured cheese brownie. Cheese flavour is quite mild here. The coffee(nescafe) flavour is not too over-powering. I taste more chocolate than coffee.

My boy bought me to this place, saying the cheese cake is good.

It was at the secluded corner, and it will be quite hard to find if you don’t know about this place. They need more posters or signs to point people to the right direction. The building is currently under A&A therefore making it harder to find the shop.

The selection of cakes there is not much. We tried their Signature Cheese Brownie, Chocolate Fudge, Oreo Cheesecake, Royal Chocolate Cake and Peach and Banana Tart. I only like the Signature Cheese and Royal Chocó. The Cheese brownie was something special as I never eat it anywhere before. Royal Chocó was nice as there was something crunchy at the bottom. The rest was only normal cakes which taste about the same as those HDB bread shops.

It’s better to take away as they are not much seats provided. And if you ordered quite many slices, you have to make a few trips to open the door. Service wise need to be improved. Personally I think price wise, it is not quite worth the money for the small slice of cake(quality wise) too.

This place has a variety of brownies which they sell by the piece. It was started by a man who has no prior experience in F&B.

I have tried four varieties and found them to be reasonably good - credit to the newcomer baker! They cater to bulk orders too.

It's hidden around the corner of the building where Jalan Isnin is, so it's not obvious from the main Sin Ming Road itself.

It seems like the people who help man the shop sometimes are the owner's family, and unfortunately they don't seem to have been trained in service culture. Although there are a few tables and chairs, you're probably better off taking away.

Operated by a very shy man, The Baker's Story does have it's own fair share of fans that come back again and again for its popular brownie cheesecake. Tucked away in a corner of Sin Ming Centre, this shop can hardly be described as well-known. Surviving on loyal customers, this tiny operation manages to get by.

Food: I have only tried one item from its selection of cakes and pastries: the popular brownie cheesecake. It is a very simple cake. Soft and moist and baked fresh every day. The owner takes pride in his cakes and he is passionate about his hobby. Ok, back to the cake. It is very tasty and rather sweet, so this is one for the sweet-toothed. Very good.

Ambience: The shop is very small and there are random things stacked around in corners. I guess this is what happens when it's a one-man show. But this does not deter anyone from patronising the shop. I don't recommend staying to sit and have a cup of tea, though. The clangs from the kitchen can be heard distinctly from any corner of the shop as the area is tiny.

Value: The 15x15cm brownie cheesecake was priced at a very affordable $13. My friends once bought a 28x28cm cheesecake for about $47. It's very worth it and really is enjoyed by almost anyone who eats it.

Service: The owner is a very humble man. He bakes, takes care of the register, collects orders and handles just about everything in the shop. He's very shy and not good with his words. Let me say that though this shop does not offer bright and cheery salespeople, the guy is very nice and quiet.

I'm quite happy to have found this gem in the centre of a couple of residential estates.
