A modest family run business, The Baker's Story sells sweet treats ranging from sundry of their trademark cheese brownies, cheesecakes, durian cakes and tiramisu.
Imagine my ebullience when I read here that one of the cheese brownies have something to do with mint. Oh goody! Can't wait to try.
Taking the first bite, I thought that Mint Cheese Brownie ($2.20) is a refreshing and innovatory novelty from the commonplace desserts. Quite frankly, this is the first time I've heard of cheese brownies and I do like the sound and taste of this one.
On the contrary, Chocolate Chip Cheese Brownie ($2.20) and Cheesecake ($3) paled in comparison. Both were relatively insipid (maybe cos the mint is more strongly flavoured), especially the cheesecake had no cheesy taste to it. The cake is more moist than creamy and the biscuit base was just miserable.
There was not much service to speak of. We were given 2 plates each when a friend and I ordered the Mint Cheese Brownie and Chocolate Chip Cheese Brownie to eat in. I decided to try the Cheesecake after the pleasant tasting of Mint Cheese Brownie and the auntie serving me just took the cheesecake from the display cabinet and place it on the counter instead of serving it on another plate. I had to handcarry it, literally, to the table a stonethrow away and put it on the predecessor's paper plate.
While I'm newfangled of my goodies, now that I've savoured, I'm ready to move on.
Must tries: Mint Cheese Brownie
