Everytime I come here, I'm on a date. And why not? The ambience is cozy and intimate, and you're surrounded by classical sculptures and paintings that make you feel like you just stepped into a museum.

And as the name says, they specialize in one type of dessert... Cheesecakes. Pretty good cheesecakes too, and they have quite a variety to choose from. Prices are slightly more expensive here though, as compared to other cafe's cheesecakes.

Service is good... After all, it's just cheescakes, drinks, and bills. Can't really go wrong there.

However, do note that they require every person to place at least 1 order.

Good place to impress your date!

First time when our friend brought us, immediately we like the place. I have been there three times, and brought my friends along too.  So far, they also like the place, its environment and the cakes.  I always missed out the mango cake, as some of the cakes are special that they have it for a week only for each cake.  Not like the ones which display out are common cakes and also nice as well.

1st and 3rd time i went, was the mango cake week, also sold out, when i was about to order.  The 1st time perhaps the timing was too late, at night time, the mango cake already sold.  So the 3rd time i went down early, the most was 2hours after it opens at 3.30pm.  Who knows the mango cake already sold out too.  I was being told that many customer had ordered to take away.  So i had tried other weekly cakes, and one and only Blackforest cake, very yummy, no wonder also in the weekly star thingy.  The rest of cakes always available aren't as good though.  I had tried the blueberry cake, no surprise.  Hopefully next time i can get my hands onto the mango cake.  Crossing fingers.

I didn't know that cheesecake's service was that bad now until I read the reviews. It was pretty good in the past, and they didnt have unreasonable policy of making every single one ordering at least one dish. It could be due to the fact that big groups are going there just to chill, but not ordering food. Like, 10 people sharing one cake or something.

Fortunately, everytime when I patronize the store, the service provided to me was good, not excellent but good enough. I always like the oreo cheesecake and the black forest cheesecake. It's a nice place for after-meal desserts, although sometimes it gets too crowded and noisy.

With a tagline such as “A Slice of Heaven”, and rave recommendations from many, a trip down to this little cafe at Siglap is necessary for cheesecake lovers.

    The Ambience

The Cheesecake Café has scored immediately in its unique take on interior décor, embracing a cherubic character different from other cafes. The Victorian theme was rather prominent, featuring replicates from the Italian Renaissance such as the Mona Lisa, angelic clay sculptures, lighted candles, and a little fountain amongst the yellow painted walls.

    The Food

The selections include the specialty Peach Jelly Cheesecake, Rum and Raisins Cheesecake, Peanut Butter Cheesecake and American Cheesecake, each costing about $6.90. If cheesecakes are not your cup of tea, you have a choice of Chocolate Truffle, Chocolate Banana and Tiramisu.

Friends have generally given varying positive comments, ranging from “to die for”, “unbelievable” to “a spiritual experience”. That could be a little exaggerating, but I thought that the cakes’ texture had a balance between heavy and light, and wasn’t overly diabetic.

In a recent visit, I tried the Strawberry Oreo Cheesecake which added a light gentle sweetness to an already familiar taste. The Chocolate Banana though, was slightly ‘jelat’ (rich) to my liking but would appeal to chocolate lovers.  Although it is probably mass-produced, you get the impression that each slice served to you was prepared lovingly just for you.

    The Service

The vibrant, attentive and youthful staff makes this place a great hang-out. One even kneed down to serve me a slice! Iced water is constantly re-filled with genuine smiles.

I did send a mail to ask about their cakes but didn’t get a reply. So minus marks for that non-reply.

    The Verdict

This slice of heaven comes with a price.

    1. thegaltravels Slice of heaven at a price :) That is a very interesting statement! Though I am an easterner, I only visited the cheesecake shop once, and I must say I was not too impressed with the cakes. It is almost as good as what mom can make at home. Though I must say it is a nice chill out place with friends.

Before the incident, my friends and I were regular patrons of this place. As my friends stay nearby and is convenient place for coffee and cake.

However after one incident, we will never return to this place.

It wasn't a crowded evening, our group of 5 went in for cakes and coffee. However, the biggest grouping inside were 5 armchairs, so I requested another empty chair be added, taken from an empty section where the chair was part of a grouping of 2. The staff and manager flatted and rudely refused and offer an ikea foot stool! I was offered a foot stool, this wasn't a comfy ottoman, a foot stool! Needless to say I was very insulted, and we walked out, never to patronise this place again.

To treat their regular customers so rudely, is unacceptable in my books. There are plenty of nicer places in the siglap area for desserts and coffee which more comfortable seats.

In Singapore, we get such horrible service because many a times, we put up with it. We should make a point not to encourage bad and rude service by voting with our dollars.

For those who don't agree with my review on their service, just scroll down and read all the other reviews on their service.

The name of the shop actually drew me to it when I was driving past one day. After that, I've been visiting it every time hubby and I feel like eating some cheesecake at night.

Despite reading the bad reviews, my experience there has been rather pleasant so far.

Upon entering the shop, one will be awed by its magnificent interior, but too bad no photo-taking is allowed. As I am really into interior design, I really appreciate the way they took pains for every single detail to be styled in the same Victorian style. Beautiful paintings, clock, fountain... The place just feels cosy and comfy.

Cheesecakes... they have a wide variety there. And maybe I don't exactly like heavy cheesecakes, so I like it that their cheesecakes are not over-cheesy. For those cakes that are mixed with fruits, like banana and strawberry, I like it that you can actually bite on little pieces of real fruit. The taste of the fruit is also rich. I love strawberry cheesecakes and feel that the strawberry cheesecake there is the best I have ever tasted.

As for service, although I wouldn't say is excellent, has been pretty acceptable so far. In fact, it's better than many other sloppy establishments I have been to. Well, at least my water gets refilled almost immediately when I ask. You try one of those places like Swensens, Pizza Hut, and one of those cheapo sushi places, then you tell me what bad service is.

Will definitely return for more cheesecakes!

i rarely write bad reviews, simply because i can't see what the point is to waste my time on eating experiences that were just a complete disappointment. but every so often, i get so baffled by terrible service that i feel compelled to write about it, just so other people don't have to put up with it, simply by not. eating. here.

i was with a friend here on a Sunday night and it was fairly empty when we arrived. we chose to sit outside with the softer light and foliage rather than brave the faux roccoco interior with harsh white lighting. the place seems to have undergone a schizophrenic revamp from its calming balinese influenced interior since i was last here.

my friend ordered a hot cammomile tea and i ordered a slice of cake. i'd just recovered from a cold and wanted some hot water (being the asian that i am) to warm my tummy. her tea arrived shortly, and was already mildly disappointing that all $8 would give is a cheap tea bag. my cake arrived at the same time, and was not bad- both flavourful and fairly light.

the hot water arrived and turned out to be more tap water cool than hot. i asked the waitress if i could get some hot water instead. she touched my glass and asked me if i wanted some warm water. i repeated that i'd like some hot water. once again, she touched my glass and asked if i wanted warm water. i repeated the hot water request. she then said that my glass wouldn't be able to handle hot water. i then offered the clever suggestion that she serve me the hot water in a cup, just like what my friend had. she promptly ignored me and asked my friend if she wanted to refill the hot water in her pot.

she came back shortly with the pot of hotwater. still no cup. i asked her for a cup and she retorted to me as she walked past "no hot water, just WARM water served here".

i mean, like WHAT?! i know times are bad for all f&b outlets, but let's be reasonable here. if i hadn't ordered anything and they wanted to be a stickler, o----k. but i had with me an overpriced slice of cake, and my friend, an overpriced pot of tea. surely some hot water wouldn't kill their profit margin? secondly, if it was company policy, the least they could do was at least seem vaguely apologetic about it.

don't waste your time paying too much to get treated this way.

    5. Bill Brehm I found the service to be okay. They asked us if we wanted water and we said no but they gave it to us anyway. $36 for two cheesecakes, a cup of tea and a glass of house wine. I guess they figure people want to come and pay extra for the ambiance and that having ten decorations on every square meter is why. I was annoyed though at all the rules and signs. Don't take photos; don't put your feet on the table or chair; one order per person minimum; don't touch this and that; etc.

    pro

    - superb and classy interior design.

    cons

    - inflexible policy, had a company of a friend there and she had to order a drink just because i wanted to try their cakes.

    - rude, inattentive, irrating = crap service, enough reviews to answer this already.

    conclusion

    - always felt that an important factor in the f&b industry is the service you sell to your consumers, and in this area they had not only failed to achieve it but just totally flunked it. how would you feel if you had wanted to enjoy your favourite food yet your mood gets fouled by the service you received. the designs justify the price but the service definitely pulls the value down. will only consider to return if its one last remaining place to sell cheesecakes.

It's a hoot that they are charging 10% service charge for service that is non-existent.

Service is important especially if your cheesecakes aren't particular special. And if you can't even provide that, then there really isn't much reason to patronise your place.

    1. blargh how did they not provide service? what should they have done?
      14 August 2009 17:31
    2. trigger happy The attitude of the service staff was horrendous.

It just takes one to mar the whole experience.

They had the "no feet on chair and table" rule which we observed but they mistakenly thought I was resting my feet on the chair. A waiter came by and told me to put my feet down. It was actually hooked behind my knee and I made sure it wasn't touching the sofa. I thought it was an oversight on their part because of the angle etc so I let it pass.

After a while, another waitress came to our table and said in a v loud and hassled voice to ask my friend to put his feet down. First off, his feet wasn't on the chair. Second, if you had already told us the first time round, we would be extra careful so do you think we would have done it again? Third, although the words coming out from this waitress was considered polite, her tone and attitude was anything but. Fourth, there were others around us that were really resting their feet on the sofa but no one approached them.

We were left baffled and frankly, rather insulted.

It wouldn't hurt them to look properly before assuming the worse of customers. And really, watch the tone and attitude. I would like to think it was probably because of a bad day (which is poor excuse in a service industry) but looking at the past reviews, I'm more inclined to think that this is the normal practice and behaviour here.

The ambience was what drawed me to the place , its victorian look is definitely alluring.

However, as pretty as the cafe maybe, it does not change the fact that the cheesecake was bland. They did not taste 'cheesy' at all. If you like thick cheesecakes, this is definitely not the place for you to go. The cheesecakes were priced at $6.90 to $7.50 , which i feel is overpriced for such a standard.

Also, the cafe had a rule which was that every customer had to order at least one item. My family and I went there, so there were five people. We ordered four cheesecakes and the waitress insisted that we had to order one more item. In the end, we were forced to order a cup of coffee, which we did not want.

To make matters worse, the service was horrible. As the inside of the cafe was full, my family and i had to sit outside. We decided to take a look inside, only to be greeted by a waitress who chased us out. 'You cannot come inside, there are no seats' and her tone was extremely insulting.

Overall, I would NEVER EVER step back into that place again.
