Average experience for a Sheraton

07 Jan 2013
Came here for a business Christmas lunch and opted for the buffet which had a 20% via most credit cards. I trusted the Sheraton brand and picked this place not really based on reviews, which I maybe should have done.

The place was surprisingly quite full for a weekday afternoon - especially for a price of $58++ before the discount. The best part about this place is the view of the man-made waterfall which somehow relaxes you as you space out watching it.

The buffet has all the essentials of a buffet: cold seafood, sushi / sashimi, appetizers, cheese, bread, soup, roasts, desserts but most were forgettable unfortunately. And that's why this is a short review.

Memorable - chicken soup and rum & rasin cheese. That's all.

In short, I wouldnt come here again.

Pleasant lunch buffet

09 Aug 2012
My family celebrated two belated birthdays on Singapore’s birthday with a lunch buffet at The Dining Room. It is a nice venue with high ceiling and full-length glass windows with a view of the waterfall. The service was good with the staff promptly clearing our used plates.

The buffet was priced at $41.80 per person and there was no credit card promotion on a public holiday. The spread and the food were decent. The restaurant served tuna and salmon sashimi and had a colourful assortment of sushi. There were two soups: cream of pumpkin and chicken herbal soup, both tasty. Of the prawn and fish crackers and papadoms, I liked the fish cracker best. Among the tastier dishes were the well- marinated seabass, the seafood in saffron, cilantro & ginger broth (the mussels were tender but the prawns were soggy) and the salad of diced smoked chicken and melon.

There were a few misses. The lor mee broth was not thick enough -the noodle soup tasted ok but just wasn’t lor mee. (I recall reading that the restaurant serves good laksa but it was not available when we were there). The grain fed chicken with natural jus was bland.

Of the desserts, the raspberry panna cotta did not congeal, the crust of the durian spring roll was hard and the skin of the ang ku kueh was thick and hard. The cheng tng was a bit too sweet for me. But the frozen yoghurt and the soy pudding longan were refreshing and the chocolate praline crunchy cake was good.

On the whole, it was a pleasant dining experience.

The Price is Right

02 Jul 2012
Came here yesterday for my birthday lunch. They had a pretty decent spread of cooked food and seafood. While the spread or the quality of the cooked food can't be compared to Greenhouse I thought it was still good enough for the price paid for. On normal weekday lunch will probably cost u $40 after tax i thought its a good price. I liked the fact that the tables were all pretty evenly spaced out, i remember when i went to Greenhouse the next table was sitting really close by.. not sure was due to the labour day holiday.

So i heard the oyster were kinda sandy and the sashimi was good. They had a variety of seafood but i didn't quite pay attention to it. The cooked food consist of some veg food. I tried the naan with some vegetarian sauce which had tomato in it, tasted really good. Only downside was that on my 2nd round the naan turned rock hard, no one actually touched them. They also had some chicken wings with coriander stem or something along those lines which i'd probably give a 7/10.. also had malay style barramundi which was ok. Black pepper prawns tasted quite good, very asian loh. The best part was the foie gras station, wah lao i whack alot from there. I think i ate about 7 or 8 pieces of it i cannot take it already, too greasy. They had roasted beef too which i didn't try.. and the cream of mushroom was really tasty. Also there was a live pasta station which i skipped too.. small stomach i know..

Dessert selection they had the usual. The stand out was the chocalate lava cake which was pretty good, and u can add some topping to it too. Ice cream they served new zealand brand that starts with K. Only had 2 flavours, the black plum tasted pretty bad but the hazelnut was quite good.
