We chanced upon the Indulge as we went to the Cathay.

The promotional poster was what caught our attention as it states from $7.90 onwards with soup of the day, ice lemon tea and ice-cream. However, we realised that they charged the price of the main course and the add-ons are free with it.

The soup was Potato soup. It was so far the better soup that I have drunk from western restaurants as it was not diluted and it was rich in taste of the frangrance of potato as well as some spices that I am not aware of.

We ordered a Ribeye steak (medium-rare) with mushroom sauce and we chose 2 side dishes, Roasted Potato and Colesaw. The steak was well cooked and satisfying. We tried eating original (without the sauce first) and we could taste the juiciness of the steak, hence proving that they did not compromise the quality of the steak. The mushroom sauce was tasty and it enhances the savoury taste of the steak and the little mushroom bits added on crunchiness to the overall taste.

We also ordered a Caesar salad with bacon bits. Undeniably, the portion of the salad was generous and the lettuce used was fresh. (very important for a salad dish) The bacon bits and breadcrumbs were a bit too heavy in taste for a salad. The sauce could be less watery so that it can blend well with the lettuce to make up a good salad dish.

Overall, a satisfying and valued meal.

My friend & I tried the warm mushroom salad and the fish and chips. The dishes were beyond our expectations. The mushrooms were flavourful & went well with the greens.

The fish was fresh, battered and cooked to perfection and placed on top of the fries (which came out of a package). What won was over was its freshness. Because of its size, we couldn't finish it, but it was certainly value for money.

However, other dishes we've tried here before weren't up to standard. So it's a bit hit & miss with this place.

Service-wise, there didn't seem to be enough waitresses, but they were prompt enough to come when needed.

Do you know what their tagline is? Ordinary food at not so ordinary taste. Or something along that line....

And they lived up to it. In a not so positive light.

We made reservations which I realised was essential because there were several walk-ins who had to source for seats amongst many reserved tables. We got seated on a table of 4 though there were only 2 of us, which is purrfectly ok with me because I get more personal space. I noticed they had 2 seaters in another section of the restaurant and they seats were impeccably close to one another, you could practically hear the other diners conversations!

I do not like the seating arrangement and/or setting. It felt like they made do with whatever empty space they open B1 rented space they had and haphazzardly created maximum seatings.

As we purchased a Platter for 2 Coupon, we were served a portion of steak and Chrystanemum shaped fish??? I do not see any resemblance of the pretty flower to the fish...

It came with seasoned fries and iced tea which tasted a tad odd. The prawns were pretty good though. Fresh and succulent!

It was a Thursday evening and there were several young adults from the nearby private institutions. The staff seem busy juggling between diners. Service is acceptable. Although I was a bit surprised when they presented me mayo in a plastic bottle (those you find at western food courts) instead of on a small dish.

I wouldn't say the dinner here was memorable enough to make me return a second time. Even if I do, I will stick to prawns and desserts perhaps.

    到The Cathay只会想到电影院,其实这里有很多餐厅。位于B1的“The Indulge”餐厅在这里已经3年了,餐厅以欧洲菜肴为主,融入了本地风味,制作出款款创意、而价格合理的Fusion美食。

    - Chinese-style Salmon Sashimi ($7.90):

My friends and I had dinner at The Indulge on Monday. It was my first time there and I ordered the crab pasta, ice blended banana (which was really bland) and 2 side dishes (tofu and prawns) that were shared between us. The food was very normal, nothing to wow or complain about. But there’s one thing that I don’t really like was the service because the staff there tend to cut into our conversation every 2-3 mins, asking if they can clear our plates when some of us are not even done yet. One of my friends was not even done with her main dish (and it's pretty obvious as she's not even half done) and this waiter actually asked if he can clear it. But overall the experience there ain’t that bad, wouldn’t mind going back there for a simple, casual dinner.

    This is so worth it.

     The set consists of

Appetizer: Crispy Prawn Tossed Garlic Mayo & Sunflower Seeds

Giant QQ prawns with a crispy skin, wonderful sauce, topped with crunchy, fragrant sunflower seeds. Yummy!

    Soup: Chicken Herbal Soup

This soup is unlike any canned soups. We can literally taste all the herbal goodness and believed the soup will need at least few hours to boil.

    Main Course: Lobster Spaghetti

It’s available in Aglio Olio, tomato base, cream base and sambal base(I think). We opted for Aglio Olio. At first, we really didnt really expect a full, big-ass lobster but it really came! Giant lobster was BBQ, QQ and yummy.

Dessert: Chocolate Icecream with Panna Cotta

The icecream tasted like it was from King’s. Great, always love it. Panna Cotta was so-so though.

    All this only at $28nett!

Oh well, we went there sometime back...not sure whether the promo is still on-going. But seriously, twice, we had great experiences. The 3rd time was a little disappointing. So, we've realised the standard are not that consistent.

I've been to The Indulge a few times just because the food is relatively yummy. For the price you pay it is indeed a steal! The little eatery is located at the basement of The Cathay. It is one of the better restaurants to try given the almost scarce dining choices. I love watching movies at The Cathay, so when I do drop by, dining at The Indulge is almost a definite must.

The restaurant serves up fusion local and western food. Prices ranges from $10 and upwards for a satisfyingly full meal. Staff is friendly and attentive and food served relatively quickly. Expect to pay between $8-$10 for a pasta meal and a main course of fish/meat from $15 and above.

I tried their 'crispy prawns with egg fried rice' and I loved it. The meal comes with wasabi tempura prawns coated with mayonnaise and sunflower seeds. Think it as a fusion of Indonesian and Japanese food. Though the rice was a tad too salty for my liking, it was yummy enough that got my thumbs up. I would ask them to hold the MSG and salt the next time I am there. You can also convert the meal to a spicy version by requesting for sambal balachan. Fried rice is so delicious with sambal!

A definite stop over when you are watching movies at The Cathay or want a hearty western meal without bursting your wallet.

A cozy little place located at Cathy's basement. The service is not bad, waiters are friendly and efficient. There is a wide variety of food to choose from, but....... the food just isn't that good. I usually order the steak (been there 3 times) which tends to be a little too hard for my liking. The meat isn't succulent, it is hard. and the pasta is tasteless. I tried the chicken the other time, same thing. The first bite was alright, but then the second, third bite was getting worst and worst. The management should seriously do something about the food standards. The desserts are average, nothing to rave about. Not my type of place i guess?

Everyone so far gave rather good reviews..

did i choose the wrong dish? was it becos i was too tired? anyway..

yes..this place was tucked in a corner. But i don't find the place really that inviting. It seems just like any other cafes around.. no too big on the decor.. I first notice that they serve fried rice. So I was wondering what will I be 'indulging' in .

I couldn't decide on what to eat..but in the end opted for the award winning "wok braised fusilli with fried chicken , shitake mushroom in creamy pesto sauce" honestly the sauce was just cream sauce..i couldn;t taste any pesto...and gosh..i can even count the no. of mushroom slice in the paste. 2 tiny thin slice of it all!~ I felt cheated. I guess my friend's aglio olio is more credible. Another friend had the prawn pasta in white wine sauce.. it was overly dry and no slightest white wine taste ...

I dunno if i will still go back there.. i might if the other places in cathay is too crowded .. we'll see how :)

One good thing.. we asked to split the bill into two.. they gladly obliged.

Luv the wasabi mayo prawns here! The friendly guy who served me were friendly n helpful n he recommended the fried prawns. I enjoy it very much thks. The prawns were de-shelled unlike some where with shells intact. 4 crunchy prawns deep-fried till crispy... coasted with wasabi mayo! Yum... I regretted eating it warm. I think it would taste even better when it's chilled. Neverthless i still luv it. Set lunch($10.80++) with choice of pasta, baked rice OR Main course, with a scoop of ice-cream and a beverage, i had the dory fish with thai chilli sauce. The fish is indeed fresh, with no fishy taste or smell. When eaten with the thai sweet chilli and a little lemon, the fish taste flavourful. The potato is quite huge which i could not finish. The svc here is friendly and the waiter would give u suggestion if u are unsure of what to order.

    Updated (5 Oct 2010)

Cafe Indulge was previously known as ‘‘ The Indulge” and after a ‘make-over”, they changed their name and restaurant set-up.

They are offering a lunch promotion- Main course comes with *2 free sides, soup of the day , a drink and a scoop of ice-cream.

    * Free sides : Coleslaw , roasted potatoes, french beans, grilled corn, mixed salad, xiao bai cai and potato salad . Individual side dish cost $1.50

    The Menu

After the ‘make-over’, they had introduced a range of new dishes to the menu. The popular dishes-Whole Lobster Pasta, Crispy prawns & Red wine braised lamb shank are highly recommended.

My personal favourite would be the ‘Crispy Prawns’ which is basically 4 deep-fried ‘ang kah’ prawns topped with a special wasabi-mayo sauce & sunflower seeds to add a little crunch.

    Side Salad

Salad leaves with mayonnaise and topped with some black sesame seeds.

    Herb Infused balsamic chicken ($10.90+)

The grilled chicken arrived in less than 5 mins and it was not warm. I ordered an extra potato salad as a side dish & the grilled chicken laid on top of the potato salad. The grilled chicken is rather tasteless on its own but the sweet balsamic complement well with the chicken. The potato salad is a little bland and I was informed that they added a little wasabi & mayo but I could only taste mayonnaise and bits of onions.

    Chocolate ice-cream

Only chocolate- flavoured ice-cream is available and I find the lunch promotion reasonable for its price. Cafe Indulge is an ideal place for lunch/ dinner where you can relax and enjoy your food without any disturbance ( cos its very quiet!)
