Awesome 1 for 1 deal!

Full review and photos: http://foodiefc.blogspot.com/2012/02/manhattan-fish-market-marina-square.html

This month; February 2012, there seems to be many 'Buy 1 Get 1 Free Deals'. The Manhattan Fish Market is one of those offering a Buy 1 Get 1 Free Deal called the OOHSOME TWOSOME Deal!

The OOHSOME TWOSOME Deal allows customers to purchase a combination of any 2 dishes (Small Flame and/or Small Grill) for the price of just $19.90++. This deal is only valid till 8 March 2012.

Visited The Manhattan Fish Market outlet at Marina Square to try out this deal.

Large poster outside The Manhattan Fish Market promoting the OOHSOME TWOSOME Deal. Arrived at 530pm on a Saturday and saw a short queue. Luckily, there was plenty of space and we got a table straight away. I was surprised when the waiter gave us the main menu only, had to request for the OOHSOME TWOSOME menu. Guess it was an oversight as the place was packed.

The OOHSOME TWOSOME Deal allows customers to add Soup of the Day and Mocktail (Drink)for an addition fee (of course). We decided to order 1 Small Flame and 1 Small Grill and top up $9.90 for 2 Soup of the Day and 2 Mocktails.

The Soup of the Day was Cream of Mushroom Soup. It comes in a very small bowl (wish that more was given). Lots of fragrant mushrooms bits in the soup.

The Mocktail which I choose was the Cala Cala which is Sprite with Lime added inside. Very refreshing.

The Small Flame consist of the award winning Flaming Prawns, Battered Fillet, Garlic Herb Rice, Crispy Chips (Fries), Broccoli and Carrots.

The Flaming Prawns was delicious, the melted cheese on top was thick and cheesy. In addition, the prawn was fresh, firm and not charred. Battered Fillet was yummy, except that I found it on the oily end. Crispy Chips which was fries. The Broccoli and Carrots are steamed, makes this dish looks bright, cheerful and appetising!

The Small Grill consist of grilled Fish Fillet, grilled Calamari, grilled prawns, Garlic Herb Rice, Crispy Chips (Fries), Broccoli and Carrots.

The grilled prawn was good, however I prefer the flaming prawn version. Again, prefer Batter Fillet to Grilled Fillet. The Grilled Calamari was average, I prefer their Fried Calamari which can be ordered in their A La Carte Menu.

Both Small Grill and Small Flame comes with Garlic Herb Rice. They are very generous with the portions especially the Garlic Herb Rice. We were unable to finish our respective orders. If I was to patronise Manhattan Fish Market again, I will order 2 Small Flame instead! This deal is certainty value for money! However, the service could be improved. Many a times, we found it hard to get the attention of the waiter / waitress. When we were leaving at around 630pm, we noticed that there was a long queue outside The Manhattan Fish Market! Luckily we went for an early dinner!

Hurry enjoy the OOHSOME TWOSOME Deal! It is valid till 8 March 2012. Wish that The Manhattan Fish Market and other restaurants can have more of such deals more often!

Wrong choice, wrong timing

My friend and I decided to give it a try in this outlet for a late lunch approx. timing 3 plus. We were waiting at the front of the restaurant but for the 15 mins or so no one came and serve us. So we went ahead and enter the restaurant and pick a table but we were been stop by a rude waiter. Saying that this section of the restaurant was close and he led us to a table which the afternoon was shining on. My friend insist on getting a table which located in the inner part of the restaurant without the afternoon sun. We spotted one which the table is not clear yet and we insist on getting that. The waiter seems like having a very rough and long started to be impatient on our request. He told us to stay where we are and they will clear the table with a irritable tone. Once we get settle and ready to order another waiter by the name of Sanyo, serve us. Two of my friend wanted the student meals, this Sanyo guy with a straight face and a tone of a discipline master told my friend to show him theirs student pass. I was a bit taken aback by his way of requesting a form of verification upon ordering. As I had lunch before that, I order a tea and a cake.

Our order came but the sauce of the food was not serve and the restaurant does not have artificial sweeteners. I was shock that this restaurant does not actually have artificicl sweeteners how can they serve people with diabetic. With the given predicament, the reprehensible part will be this waiter by the name of jun jie having doubt that there is ever a thing call artificial sweeteners exist in this world. God please save this poor kids and restaurant. They really need proper TRAINING!!!

bad experience

don't go there for fish & chips. it's soo oily tt by the time u finish it you'll feel sick of it. i'm not sure abt their other food though only went there once, and it has left a bad impression on me. there service is not very acceptable also. they seem like foreigners. though i dun mind foreigners having accents, but their attitude is problematic. at least for some.

From SINGAPORE, NOT MANHATTAN

While eating there, I realised their fish and garlic butter sauce is a clone of Fish & Co's. I found it a little strange until I saw in The Straits Times one day that Manhattan Fish Market is started by an employee who left Fish & Co to start up his own business, and subsequently got sued for copying Fish&Co's recipes.

I was shocked because, like most of the people I know, I assumed Manhattan Fish Market was from Manhattan. But it's not!!! >:( Just a head's up for people who think it's some established chain from the US. It's actually just a fried fish place from Singapore :)

Always the platter

The first time K and I visited this restaurant, which was eons ago, we each ordered a different dish. Both featured fish and though they weren't particularly memorable, there wasn't any complaints either.

Subsequently, we tried the Manhattan seafood platter ($33.90) and we'd been hooked ever since. It's ideal for sharing, which made for a more enjoyable experience and the serving was huge enough for a hearty meal. This time, we decided to top up $4.90 each for a drink and soup.

While the iced lemon tea was passable, the cream of mushroom was good. Thick and creamy, it came with adequate bits of mushroom and the slightly garlicky flavor lifted it out of the ordinary. Too bad there wasn't any bread.

The seafood platter comprised of a deep-fried fish fillet, oysters, calamari and prawns served with chips and garlic rice.

The fish fillet was lightly battered and fresh, while the oysters were coated more thickly. Our favorite was the flame-grilled prawns overflowing with sweet-cheesy sauce, but the calamari was really bland. Well, thank goodness for the dips. As for the crispy chips, they were well seasoned and the garlic rice packed a mean kick.

Service had always been satisfactory though the last time we were there, it was amusing that two extremely friendly staff came over to take our order and then no one remembered to bring any dips to us. However, it was promptly delivered when we requested for it.

After ingesting all that pungent garlic, it's nice to have complimentary Mentos before leaving.
