The Pump Room at Great World City is a microbrewery, bistro and bar combination, serving as a very viable lunch venue for the lunch crowds as well as a pit stop for shoppers and residents.
The Pump Room is connected to Pepper Steakhouse, but only opens later in the day...the clientele always seems happy. I went over to look at their menu the other day and it looks like they have a few different items than Pepper (more pub food), but you can still get a steak/fries there because it comes out of the same kitchen. So, if you want a great steak and an outdoor environment, it is probably a good place...if you want to know about the quality of the steak, read my other HGW review of the steakhouse.
It was my 1st visit to Great World City outlet on 25 Apr 09. At the timing 4pm, there was not much crowd. A good place for chilling out and light bites. Their beer price before 5pm is at $5++ per half pint and $7++ per pint. Happy hour 5-8pm is 1-for-1 for draft beer. Light bites is at 50% from 3-5pm daily. We ordered a scottish ale, the pump room lager and the thickcut fries. The fries are thick and yummy. It goes well with the beer. Go for it!
My 2nd visit to this outlet the next day. 4 of us decided to settle early dinner at this place since beers are cheap & 50% off on their light bites from 3-5pm daily. Beers ordered are (1)India Pale Ale(IPA)-SP's; (2)Scottish Ale-LS's; (3)Soda lemon-MH's. Non-alcoholic drink & tastes like normal soda with lemon juice added; (4)Cranberry juice-mine. Concentrated cranberry juice added with water? Foods ordered:(1)Fisherman's basket of crunchy battered prawns, fresh scallops and so-so crab cake on yummy thickcut chips.(2)Beer-Marinated Chicken Drumlets-My friends don't like the taste but I like it. Therefore I finished most of it.(3)Diced Sesame Salmon with wasabi mayo sauce-The salmon is fresh & it goes well with the wasabi mayo sauce.(4)Popcorn Chicken-Nothing special about this item. But it is easy to eat & one tends to eat more since it is a mouth-size snack. Overall, the value is on the beer since it is freshly brewed & cheap. Ted, the supervisor of the Pump Room at GWC, overcharged us twice and refused to apologize! Two of my friends and I were dining there and only realized that no one had ordered fries until the bill came because we all assumed that someone else had ordered it. When we raised this problem to the supervisor who took our order, he took removed the fries from the credit card bill, but charged us $19.00 for two pepsi lights instead of $12.00 in the second bill thinking we wouldn't notice. When I pointed it out to him, he did not apologize, but instead made me wait at the counter while he ran another customer's bill despite mistreating us TWICE. Furious, I tried to contact Pump Room's numbers during their opening hours, but no one picked up over the ten times I dialed and there wasn't even a voice mail to leave a message on. I will NEVER dine at this place again.
