Headed there this week on a weekday evening, and was attended to right away.

I must say the place itself is nice, it has a warm and friendly ambience and the staff are extremely helpful and polite.

The food was decent but surprisingly nothing special. I guess I was expecting more considering some of the previous reviews.

We ordered the crayfish and fish&chips. VERY very normal. Can probably get better food elsewhere at the prices we are paying.

I hope they do something about the quality of their food, or their prices. Because at the moment they don't match.

Will I be going back? I don't think so.

    Must tries: None

This was my second review on this restaurant.

Overall was a different experience from the first one...

Once we step in.... I waited quite a while when someone attended to us...

Once we were sited down, we felt so freezing cold.. we asked the waitress to either off the fan or maybe lower the speed. She said can't because its centralized... In the end we were having our dinner @ a freezing temperature.

While checking out the menu... we discovered that some of the dishes in the menu was "upgraded"...  :(

We had Classic Caesar Salad with Crispy Bacon ($18), Roasted Rack of Lamb ($36) and a Mini Kobe Beef Burger ($24) and 3 glasses of WARM water...

    The salad was alright.

The lamb was abit disappointed... too much fatty meat and because this place was so cold... my lamb also turning cold very fast.

I did not tried the Kobe Beef Burger... but review from my sister and friend was that the meat was not "fresh"... The meat had been refrigerated for too long. Fries that was served together with the burger was shrank... remembered they served a generous amount of fries..

Had dinner at the Queen and Mangosteen - although the menu looked promising, ultimately I was unimpressed... especially for the prices they charged. We had three little Wagyu sliders, and a chicken tikka masala that was much drier than I was expecting. Based on our experience with dinner, I didn't feel like sticking around to try the desserts. The service was good though!

We had a really amazing dinner at The Queen & Mangosteen - a place which I have been dying to visit for some time now. I was absolutely pleased with all the food that we ordered, it IS a very big deal to me when every single dish is equally awesome and ESPECIALLY when the sides taste as good as the highlight!

We made use of the DBS 1-for-1 main course promotion and ordered the:
Grilled Asian Pesto Chicken, Rosemary Roast Potatoes and Garden Vegetables served with a tomato Coriander Sauce
Wild Mushroom Risotto with Asparagus and Oven-dried Tomatoes
Fish and Chips with Curry Tartare Sauce, and
Spicy Minced Beef, Thai Basil and Bird's Eye Chilli served with warm corn chips and sour cream!

What a mouthful, but the detailed descriptions really did justice to the food that found their way into our hungry tummies. I have never liked Risotto but I really just fell in love with the risotto dish. And I love it when you can taste the effort put into making the roasted veggies - the best memory of a similar experience was in The Quarters in Flinders St, Melbourne, when I was seriously impressed that the roasted veggies beside my lamb cutlets tasted sooo goood! :) Not to mention, the service was really prompt despite them pre-warning us that the food will arrive about half an hour later plus the place was packed fullll with soccermaniacs. We also had the sampler which was really great because we got to try 3 different kinds of beer without having to gobble down a pint of each, and it saved us a great deal of money as well!

Must tries: Fish and Chips with Curry Tartare Sauce, Wild Mushroom Risotto with Asparagus and Oven-dried Tomatoes, Sampler

Before anyone wondered about what happened, let me set the record straight, my hands got dirty coz of the constant 'war' I had to embark on, in order to finish all of the crayfish.

I chanced upon this restaurant on a lazy Sunday afternoon, reading about the better Fish & Chips in Singapore on the Sunday Times. So without much contemplation, I talked my girlfriend into having dinner at The Queen & Mangosteen! =)

I was asked if I would like a table near the large projector screen, as the restaurant was screening a Champions League Match. BUT no thanks, as I would rather catch up with my friend before she jet-set off again. Anyway, there were ample TVs around the restaurant for one to catch the soccer action, if anything.

Anyway, my friend and I were rather disappointed at the Fish & Chips with Curry Tartare Sauce (SGD 14.00) (despite the rave reviews by the newspaper). Personally, it was felt that it was a little overpriced for 3 pieces of fish and a lot of chips. The batter used was a little too thick, hence upon biting in, we were not exactly able to taste the fish. It was a little disappointing to learn that additional had to be paid, if extra tartare sauce was required. =(

I had the Crayfish Cooked in Beer, Chips & Lemongrass Aioli (SGD 24.00), which was a rather refreshing change from the standards ordered at any restaurants. And having not had crayfish in a long time, I was rather skeptical about the colour of the cooked crayfish, but that skepticism was repelled by the service crew. =) For the price paid, there were at least 7 crayfish served and I wished that I had a bigger table to dine at, as my extensive cutlery took up at more than half the table. =( Due to another beer-cooked dish I had (at another restaurant), I was expecting the taste to be rather significant, however, it was rather insignificant, hence I was a little disappointed. Once again, there was actually quite a fair bit of chips, which went to waste (as we were already rather stuffed from the initial batch). =( And yes, this was how I got my hands dirty!!

Nonetheless, overall, it was a rather interesting dining experience, especially since I was seated at a table in between a good view of the waterfront and in front of a TV screen. I definitely did wish that I had a larger dining table. A repeated visit might materialise, if and only if I have a craving for the crayfish!! =)

Personally, i think that the service here was awesome. The staff, i cant recalled her name, was attentive in refilling our glasses and clearing our plates at the right time. And this was done when it was quite busy, usually at other places, you will tend to need someone's attention.
Food wise, we tried their potato soup which turned out surprisingly tasty. I had the Grilled Asian Pesto Chicken with Rosemary Roast Potatoes and Garden Vegetables served with a Tomato Coriander Sauce, for SGD 20.00. Serving size was quite huge. My GF had the Fish & Chips with Curry Tartare Sauce, for SGD 14.00. She finds the sauce too overwhelming, while i find it quite interesting. Something different perhaps.
The only downside was the Lemon tea. I dont know why but i tend to avoid lemon tea that doesn't include sweetener. Its troublesome to pour sweetener into an already full glass. So i ended up drinking my friend's Coke. And the complimentary ice water.
We almost wanted to try the dessert but decided to skip it as we were quite full eventhough we didn't get to finish the food. But nonetheless, the experience was fruitful.I would come back to try other products.

Must tries: Potato soup, or any other soup.

Came here for brunch on a lazy Sunday afternoon. We sat outside at the porch area facing a deviant structure called Resorts World Casino. Ugly like crap.

I must qualify and say that their menu here does not have the typical Sunday brunch menu of Ultimate breakfasts or eggs benefict (or at least in my memory - if I am wrong, sorry about that!). Theirs is more of a British style pub grub restaurant.

Nevertheless, I totally loved the Sunday brunch experience at the Queen. The weather was lovely, the seats were well shaded from the scorching sun and the air was calm with a light breeze. The food wasn't disappointing at all. In fact, it surpassed my expectations of typically oily pub grub.

The crab cakes were juicy and warm when served. Crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. I liked the light fragrance of the spices used. Yuuumm. My only gripe would be that one serving only has 2 crab cakes which is grossly insufficient!!

We also got the Deli board, without the mussels coz there were none that day. The steamed prawns were nice though nothing out of the ordinary. The fish was really fresh and the batter was fragrant too.

My lamb rack was ok only - but I suppose lamb rack is not really pub grub. Nevertheless I enjoyed it. The creme brulee was also nice in a very simple no-frills way. But I love the way that it looks when served - really pretty!

I much preferred my Sunday brunch experience here over Prive. Sorry to the Prive fans!!

ps. they have quite a comprehensive beer list. We didn't try as we're clean living uber religious anti-alcohol folks.

NO LA SUCKERS!!! I just prefer my beer served to me by a tubby stumpy tiger auntie dressed in an uber tight top and short skirt ( don't forget the track shoes and socks) at any random kopitiam in the HDB heartlands.

DOUBLE NO LA SUCKERS IF YOU ACTUALLY BELIEVE THAT TOO.

I just don't drink beer. Period.

    KAPISH???

Must tries: Crab cakes, Deli board

This place is for beer lovers ~

They brew their own beers and it tastes like it is. Some of those I like are their Wheat Bier (no it is not a typo), Summer Ale, and Golden Ale. Go before 8pm for their Happy Hour promo - 3 half pints for $18. Otherwise each half pint on their own costs $9 if you just want one. I think the per half pint price is cheaper before 7pm, but cant remember how much.

The crowd is your typical chill out crowd but I like it better than say Paulaner as the place doesnt seem too packed even when its full, perhaps because they have the alfresco area facing the sea. It helps reduces the noise level too, we can actually hear each other and chat!

We had 2 bites that replaced dinner:

Chips with chilli crab dip ($12) - these come thick cut and very freshly deep fried, which was a definite plus point. The only thing is the dip came in half of what the small holder was supposed to contain so we asked if we could have more but was told additional dip will cost $8. HUH? I mean the dip was thew actual chilli crab sauce with real crab meat and all that, but $8 was a tad too high for me for just the sauce. If I ordered that, the chips will come up top $20! They should just use a smaller holder if they intend to serve that little dip, or maybe they fill half on purpose so you are tempted to ask for the top-up.

Beer battered onion rings ($9) - We are attracted by this order after it went past us. It came in a thick crispy batter which didnt quite have the beer taste but we thought it was good it wasn't oily. Until my dinner mate bit into one and realized the batter was still there, not cooked thoroughly, maybe because the oil was too hot. We alerted one staff who brought it on and asked us if we wanted a replacement, which we did. The replacement took quite a while, and when it came, the batter was doubly hard and much more oily, which meant they had deep fried it a longer time to avoid the same thing happening again.

Otherwise, service was generally okay; plus the GM of the place was a friendly chap. The beer itself is not dirt cheap but it is still something special from other places. I love the Wheat Bier which had calamansi in it; may sound strange but it is really nice!

    Must tries: Wheat Bier

Archipelago beers are $16.50 a pint! You can not justify this price, it is from a local brewery, not imported. The views are superb, but their extortionate beer prices show a complete contempt for their customers. I estimated this was the most expensive beer I have ever bought - beating NYC clubs and posh lounges in London. So shocked by the price, I did not even want to eat here. Either go to Red Dot where they are $7 at happy hour or pick one up at the local 7-Eleven.

To the management - please do not write a response unless it specifically addresses your excessive prices for pints - not half pints.

    1. Management Dear Julian, Thank you for coming down to the Queen & Mangosteen. We are glad that enjoyed the view from our restaurant & bar. We hope to see you soon for the beer and food pairing experience at the Queen & Mangosteen. Have a great week ahead! Kind Regards, Management The Queen & Mangosteen

Browsed through HGW and found this restaurant with decent ratings and a cute name so decided to give it a try with my girlfriends. Upon arrival I noticed they had reserved a table for me with my name on it. Restaurant was pretty quiet for a Sunday night and food came quickly. We had many sides - must try chips in chilli crab sauce and their oysters were better than I had expected! Their snapper with risotto and rib eye of beef was also pretty spectacular. The nice view and cozy ambience also made it a very lovely place to chill and hang out. A waitress was always ready at hand to help us. All in all a really good experience.
