S' Wonderful!

The Tavern Brasserie at East Coast is located a few doors away from the Cheesecake Cafe. The interior of the restaurant looks a little dated, nothing fancy (it is supposed to be styled after a Swiss chalet), but I would say that the food it serves more than makes up for it.

Essentially, the Tavern serves the usual Western fare; steaks, fish, etc... But the quality of the food is anything but "ordinary". I had the pan-fried goose liver and the US rib-eye while my date had the fillet steak with pan-fried goose liver (yes, my date also had a share of the pan-fried goose liver that I had ordered as an appetiser..). The goose liver was absolutely amazing, out of this world. It's fried to perfection, with the outside a little charred and the inside, so soft that it slips right down your throat. I am a great lover of foie gras (goose preferably), whether pan-fried or terrine. And this beats anything that I've ever had. My date, who has lived in Paris for 20 years and is a great lover of foie gras, was very impressed by the goose liver and had gone so far as to declare that this is the best foie gras he has ever had, even better than any he's had in Europe.

Next came our main courses. We ordered medium-rare for our steaks and to be honest, it wasn't as red as we would have liked it to be. All the same, we went ahead with our food. Both the fillet steak and the US rib eye were fantastic; tender, juicy and full of flavour. The fantastic food coupled with the good and efficient service have elevated this restaurant to "preferred" status, in my book.
