Great Music, Lousy Service
We were lucky enough to get a table at about 9. After we got in, there was a long queue all the way till 11 plus.
We ordered a couple of pizzas (Roasted Duck & German Sausage), a seafood platter and some beer (3 jugs + 4 pints)
Food was good, especially the Roasted Duck pizza, and I enjoyed my beer and the great live music until...
We got told off by a waiter for asking for iced water. We did ask for 1 or 2 glasses of ice water beforehand, and it was served, rather unwillingly. (Now, please keep in mind we had food orders)
Then when my friend asked for another glass, the waiter (J) simply said "No. I can't do that."
Maybe it was the beer we had, and we were somehow cool with that.
But a few minutes later, he came with a glass of water, put it right in front of my friend and said "This will be the last round of iced water I'm serving you. No more after this." That, with a black face, and before my friend could say anything, he walked off.
No tact at all.
What a disappointment.
All the good beer, good music, and awesome Roasted Duck pizza, everything good about Timbre@Substation being let down by this petty act from a waiter.
If you want to charge for tap water, go ahead. Do not ever, snub a customer like that.

Angry and disappointed
Despite of bad reviews on the timbre@substation, i decided to give it a try since i was attracted by the food and music, i don't wish to miss a place like that. Email to make a reservation for 10 pax to celebrate my 21st birthday there yesterday.
When my group of friends have reached there, we were told that our seats were taken up by another group of people which have began eating due to their mistake. They have mistaken the names. How could they mistaken the name??? my surname is only a minor group in Singapore and i didn't use any Christan name to book!
we were asked to take a table while they "will" do something. okay, so we went in and found out that table was only for 6 pax, big fan right in front of us blowing all our hairs and just beside the loud speaker. we let the matter rest as we thought it will be a quick one but we were wrong. they weren't doing anything though we had informed them about the situation and my friend requested to see the manager. manager came after we requested for twice!
we waited, that group of people were asked to shift table and they moved. well, we just hope we will able to have a table of 10pax and not disturb the grp of people for their dinner. but soon, they moved them to another table. we didn't want to make this big but the attitude and services really piss us off. thought the table was empty, we weren't inform to move over there and we continued to wait for instruction. no water is served yet and we asked a waitress if she can serve us a cup of water since we were waiting for the table. the manager came over and told us "that water is only be served with food. this is a bar, we don't serve water. it already a privilege for you all to be seated in here. we usually asked them to wait outside while waiting for a table " this really pissed us off when he continued to say "we will only serve 1 round." and they walked away! HEY! WAS THAT OUR FAULTS THAT WE HAVE TO SEAT THERE?! CANT ORDER ANY FOOD?! AND NO WATER IS SERVED FOR ANY APOLOGY?! WHEN RESERVATION WAS MADE?!
okay. cool down. when the water is here, the waitress placed the paper thingy to put the cold water UNWILLINGLY with ATTITUDE! she didn't even place the cup right in front of everyone and just walked away like that. HELLO! we didn't even do anything to her! soon my friend walked out one by one to cool down, leaving bf and myself. after 15mins a waiter came and asked whether we must have a table for 10pax instead of 6pax? if so, we will have to wait.. and so we decided to leave.
not a single apologise from them since beginning! i was really disappointed with them. feel sorry as well to bring my friends there. a place where i thought my friends could enjoy during my birthday celebration but this happened. lousy service and attitude. if we are able to give negative review, we definitely going to give it!!
WE WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN NO MATTER HOW GOOD IS THE MUSIC AND FOOD!
thanks to them, we went to mindcafe and we really enjoyed ourselves with super good service!

No words can fully describe the HORRENDOUS service!! *faintz*
This is my very first ultimate bad review, scathing too perhaps? Grrrr...
Was organising a bday celebration for a fellow makan kaki cum HGW reviewer and so decided to have it here at Timbre as we wanna check out this place and chill out at the same time. So happily, I made an ADVANCED (read: 3 days in advance) online reservation for 10 pax at 7.30pm. And in that very same day, I received a CONFIRMATION mail from the MANAGING DIRECTOR that my reservation had been placed. And so, I thought, yay, reservations done, looking fwd to the bday celebrations. Ya right! Hmph!
On that fateful day at 5.55pm, (dun forget that my reservation was to be at 7.30pm) I received a call from Timbre asking if they could to push my reservation to 9.30pm due to a last minute confirmation of a corporate function for that fateful evening. It was also emphasised that the corporate function had 150pax! Ya rite, so my group not considered important too lo. Hmph! I was of cos VERY VERY upset at this. The excuse provided (and kept being reiterated) was that the confirmation only came in the night before and they did not wish to call me at midnight! Errm...hello!! I do not buy this. How can they not know of a pending corporate function in advance? Could have kindly notified me in advance so that I am prepared for it or made better decisions. NOT just accept my reservation and just conveniently only "notify" me at 6pm on that day?! Finally, they decided to give me my original reservation BUT the kitchen will be CLOSED and ONLY pizzas will be served. HUH?! So only expecting my group to devour nothing but pizzas thru'out the evening for a bday celebration?!
I was naturally darn upset and had to quickly make last minute arrangements for a change in venue for a group of 10 pax. After about 15 mins whilst I was making other arrangements and busily notify everyone, I received a call from them again where they gonna give us 15% discount off the bill and specially allow us to order food in apology. HOWEVER, the catch is that we will only be told what is available and what is not at the point of ordering from the menu. DUH!!
Grrrrrrr.....THIS WHOLE THING IS OUTRIGHT PREPOSTEROUS AND RIDICULOUS AND TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!
Note: My very very first 0.1 rating. Really, would have given a negative value if I could!

Friends, Food & Live Music!!
This is actually my 2nd visit to Timbre @ Substation after a memorable outing in 2006, when my friend, who got so drunk, mistook me as part of the service crew, as I was dressed in the exact same colour!!
This time round, I was still dressed in black, but with a different group of friends. And we were there to celebrate the birthday for a friend, who is into live music.
To prevent disappointments, or to put it simply as 'kiasu', I made an online reservation for Friday evening. And I was seriously keeping my fingers crossed, coz I ever experienced having been turned away from restaurants, which have reservation quota. But thankfully, I got my table!! =) Even better, one gets to choose to be seated in the 'smoking' or 'non-smoking' section!!
Dinner started with a mass order of Thin-Crust Pizzas!! From Triple Mushroom, which had the mushrooms sticking out of the pizza crust (YUMMY) to Timbre Seafood, which had mussel, prawn & squid bits sticking out of the crust and chilli bits, which sent my girlfriend and me for the water glasses. But the seafood was really fresh though!! To make up for the spicy seafood, we had a Garlic Prawn Pizza, which was another awesome dish, with the distinct taste of garlic. =D
In addition, we had the BBQ Chicken, as well as another pizza (whose name I have forgetten) but it was sprinkled with beef and capsicum bits. Both of which were equally good and the ingredients were well distributed throughout the pizza.
We went on to get the Spicy BBQ Chicken and boy, it got us running for the water glasses faster than ever. Perhaps we are all just that terrible with chilli. In the end, we ended up scrapping off all the chilli sauce, otherwise, no one would have eaten the dish.
In order to last it out for the band 53A to appear on stage, we had a round of Happy Hour, ranging from Heineken Beer, Lime Margarita, Lychee Martini, After Eight & Tequila Sunrise, since water was only available for one round only.
Great band playing that evening (at least I felt that it was) and we even managed to sabotage our birthday friend to go onstage for a round of performance. But we didn't stay long enough to last through the entire band performance, due to the need to catch the last train-bus etc. And besides, the queue outside the bar at 11.15pm was actually snaking away.
Great evening spent with great food and great company. Music was not our main focus that evening, though we had a good laugh watching our friend onstage. Will definitely return for another round at Timbre with great company again!! =D

timbre :D
live bands, good food, great drinks, amazing ambience.
what more could you ask for? just add friends to this mix and you'll have a great night.
try the pizza and beer. chill out to the great local music.
the prices are a bit steep but worth every penny.
remember to make a reservation or you'll end up in the long queue that never seems to move.
its better to call them than book online though. on the 2 occasions my friend tried to book, there had been miscommunication and problems. Timbre having 2 locations added to the confusion.
if anyone of your friends are celebrating a birthday or any other occasion, ask the band playing for the night to make a dedication. they will definitely and gladly oblige. good times.
the waiters are the only real blemish. they do try to be prompt but being a very busy establishment, service tends to be slack. no more questions just go!
