Good quality of food, albeit steep prices.
24 Mar 2013I was there for an international buffet lunch on a weekend, using a voucher. The quality of food here is worth mentioning. Despite the steep price for the buffet, I felt it was worth paying for it. Nevertheless, Triple Three's would definitely not the be the typical buffet place I'd frequent. Will go there only once in a blue moon - and of course price would be the reason.
I loved the desserts most - they were mostly done well and indeed mouth-watering. There wasn't exactly a very great variety of desserts, but every dessert on the buffet table is worth trying since they were presented nicely (although there were some cracks on the macaroons). The one that stood out was the mini apple strudel. It was served warm with the essence of apple still kept intact and was still crisp and sweet. Well done. The macaroons came in a variety of colours, though they did not differ much in terms of flavour.
Sashimi was fresh and good although each serving was a little small but I'm not complaining. Quality of sushi was excellent, the rice was of good quality which is most important. The rice was held together yet could be differentiated grain by grain as you ate it. 3 types of Maki, and 3 types of sashimi sushi. No Megajiki (sword fish) though.
Salads were good, though I was a little disappointed with the Crab Meat Salad as I couldn't taste much crab meat. There was about 6 types of salad - fruit salad, crab meat salad, prawn salad etc. Goose liver was good and fresh. The salami was also yummy. Prawns were fresh and firm.
I enjoyed the ham and roasted beef thoroughly. Very succulent and cooked well, with just the right amount of fat (which could easily be trimmed off as well if you don't want it). I absolutely loved their mustard - I don't know if it was homemade but it lent lots of flavour to the beef. Tepanyaki was ok.
Some others weren't too outstanding though. I was disappointed with the dim sum. It looked colourful and delectable but didn't taste good. They were generally sticky and the Siew Mai, though overwelmed with fish roe, was disappointing and tasted more like a mini pork dumpling. The Har Gow was very sticky. The Tempura section was very slow in terms of replenishing their tempura prawns. I had to wait several rounds before I could get my share. The dipping sauce was too salty.
As for the Indian section, I felt the Chicken Curry was too spicy. I didn't try the naan/parata, as well as the Hainanese section.
Service was generally average and didn't leave a lasting impression, except for one waiter who seemed a little blur as to what to do when we asked for our bill.
Ambience wise, I'm fine with the dim lighting, though they could have added more contemporary furniture.
I guess why most people don't recommend this place is because of the exorbitant prices and there's seemingly nothing special. But based on most of the quality of food, worth a try for international buffet.

For pictures of 95% of the dinner spread, click on the link below! Worth to go during promotion.
22 Oct 2012Treated my family to buffet dinner at Triple Three, Mandarin Orchard Hotel. I managed to take pictures of 95% of the spread (I forgot to take pictures of the Tempura Section), scroll down to see the variety of food. http://madamechewy.wordpress.com/2012/10/21/triple-three-buffet-mandarin-orchard-hotel/The price per pax is $138++(both for weekdays and weekends), which adds up to $161.46 after service charge and GST. The food is nice, but I don’t think it is worth paying full price; I use a groupon promotion which saved me about 40-50%. If you are keen to try this buffet, do keep an eye out for credit card promotions. Sometimes DBS has 1 for 1 promotions or 50% discount for every 2nd diner. Because of the groupon promotion, the restaurant was packed. I expected slow service but was pleasantly surprised and impressed that the hotel put in the effort to schedule enough manpower to clear the plates quickly. Thumbs up for that Food was mostly soso but some quite very good and enjoyable.

Go when there's an offer
07 Sep 2012Triple Three's selection pales in comparison to other buffets. They seem a tad less imaginative, and the dim lighting hardly helps their case.
Nothing really stood out.
