| Good Food, Right Price
Well, I've never been to Vietnam or tasted authentic Vietnam food... But as compared to the Vietnam restaurants I've been to in SG, this has got to be one of the better ones.
The Ambience was really nice and we got the Sofa Seats. But it was kinda too much of a squeeze for 5 grown men.
The TouFu Salad was yummy. Somehow the Toufu was fried in a batter that tasted alittle like the Japanese style... but the sauce was yummy.
The Veggie Spring rolls... Also another must try dish.
I had the Beef Kuay Tiow Soup and it was one of the best Vietnam Kuay Tiows I have had in SG.
Am not sure about the 2 other dished in the pict which my buddies tried but they had no complaints.
:)
Anyway, like mentioned... they could do some work on their desserts though. |

| Wholesome Beef Noodles!
I've been to this little Vietnamese restaurant many times and always wonder why it's not as crowded as it should be. It's clean, comfortable and serves reasonably priced vietnamese food.
My favourite dish here is the sliced beef pho ($6). It's topped with a sufficient amount of basil, mint and bean sprouts. The best part is the hearty and tasty beef broth! This is one gigantic bowl of beef kway teow that you MUST TRY! My dad loves it too and says it's much more value for money than another beef kway teow place nearby...
Another dish we like is the Authentic Grilled Pork with noodles. Nicely marinated with a slightly charred taste. Yummy!
We also love the sour plum (S'ng-buei) drink with soda because it is so refreshing.
You haven't tasted Vietnamese coffee until you've tasted Vietnamese coffee... of course, you'd say! Seriously, it's rather unique. The coffee filter fits nicely on top of a small glass and is supposed to slowly soak and steep the coffee powder while allowing just the right amount of black liquid to drip slowly into the awaiting glass below. The result is a strong and fragrant cuppa. You don't want to lose the heat, so try not to open the cover before it is done dripping! |

| Love the food
I have always been an avid fan since the days they were at north bridge road. Perhaps because i love the sweet, salty and spicy way of Viet food. I love their chicken salad. Lip smacking.
I always have their chicken noodle soup. Great for cold days and if you are sick. My boyfriend always have the rice with grilled pork.
The appetizers (fried and fresh spring rolls) are nice. The fried ones come out hot and crunchy.
For drinks (i don't drink coffee), i always go for the green tea with mint and lime.
Service is friendly but the place can get a bit noisy.
They have vegetarian menu as well. |

| what a name !
I read with amusement Ji Lian sister review on her experience at Va Va Voom ! She had a rather pleasant experience with the food except for the vegetables serving.
I was there last weekend with some friends and was immediately attracted by the name ; va va voom !!! sounds great like " the guns of Navaron ".
Anyway we wanted some desserts after an unremarkable chicken rice lunch next door. I ordered a single scoop ice cream ; my friends went for their coffee and black glutinous rice.
The place is comfortable ; pretty tasteful interior improvements and while you wait for your desserts at a corner they even provide you gossipy magazines which wasnt a bad idea.
20 minutes went by ; nothing happened. I thought the restaurant was full ; but there were a few guests whose demeanor didnt quite suggest they were in any happier mood.
We asked the waiter for the delivery status and he came back only with my single scoop of ice cream ; plain chocolate like what you could get at any street corner! I was jubiliant.
Then came the two coffee ; rather cute as I couldnt quite make out the two contraptions on
top of the coffee cups ; looks like minature percolators and the coffee drips into the cups as if the holes were mostly choked with coffee powder!!
It took about 7 - 8 mins before the cup was a quater filled and by which time it was lukewarm. The next best thing to do was to drink them up quickly as we didnt order ice coffee for the other half !!!!!!
Then came the clincher ; the black glutinous rice . It came in a pretty nice bowl but what we saw was like baby porridge ; gluey and looks like soft paste ! My firend remarked she didnt order Heinz baby food ; I joked at least it brings her back to her days when she was a little girl!
Vroom vroom vroom .................. we made our exit from Vietnam . |

| I wish I would write a better review...
...because the owner of the restaurant seemed really nice, and was extremely friendly and open to feedback. One of those people who will ask you how the meal is and seems to genuinely care what you think.
I'd say the food here was generally good, but not significantly better than some other Vietnamese restaurants in Singapore. The spring rolls were excellent, and (according to my husband, who has eaten fairly extensively in Vietnam) the best you can get here. And I saw a Vietnamese lady order the pho, so I'm gussing it must be pretty good too, as were the pork chops, which were flavourful, well-marinated and accompanied by a serving of fluffy, perfectly-cooked rice.
But the restaurant was let down by its vegetables, which did not seem terribly fresh. This is not a mortal sin, but especially disappointing in a Vietnamese restaurant, since Vietnamese cuisine relies so extensively on fresh vegetables. We also tried to beef and cheese rolls, which were also disappointing because the beef was very chewy so you'd end up with this (sorry for the gory detail) gooey mass of unchewable beef and cheese that felt like it would take hours at the gym to get rid of and yet didn't taste very good.
But once again, I was so impressed by the owner that I'll probably go back just to try his other dishes and see if there are any more gems. Maybe I'm being a sucker for service, but good service is so rare in Singapore, it seems a shame not to encourage it. |
