Global burger joint Burger King (BK) has raised the bar with its new Whopper Bar in Singapore, the only one of its kind in Asia, and third in the world after US and Germany. The new upscale joint offers premium burgers and beer… but is it enough to keep its status as a bar?

    THE FOOD:

The cheapest regular Whopper costs a whooping S$8.90 with a drink and either fries or onion rings. There are four new Whopper variants offered - the Angry Whopper, Western Whopper, Rodeo XXL and sweet Mexicana Whopper - on top of the usual BK Doubles Mushroom Swiss and Cheesy Bacon Tendergrill.

There are many more "premium" condiments and ingredients (S$1 each) - 24 to be exact and counting - than the typical BK joint customers can customise their Whopper with, and watch its assembling process from the counter. The Whopper Bar also offers beer for an upsize at S$2 for a 300ml can of Tiger Beer and S$4 for a 500ml can of Tiger Beer. For Heineken, add S$1 respectively.

We dropped by there one evening and ordered a Mushroom Swiss Double. Alas, we forgot about the elevated status of this BK joint and did not do anything special with our burgers. Neither did the staff remind us. What we did remember to do as we always do at other normal BK outlets was to ask for extra pickles… and they forgot about our pickles. When reminded though, they gave a generous helping.

Nonetheless, we observed our well-researched neighbours, foreign exchange students from Australia, who fully utilised the bar for what it is - customisable. One of them added just a few more toppings but came up with a hefty bill of S$18 for his meal with a beer of course.

    THE MOOD:

Options are displayed on 3 LCD TV screens and there is actually smoke rising up from the burgers if you look carefully enough. Besides offering three new burgers, which are variants of the original, the standard sides and drinks are available too.

The Whopper Bar looks nothing like the typical one with its open kitchen, countertops and posh seats with areas customers may plug in ipods and groove to their favourite tunes, as well as a break away from the original colour scheme of red and orange to red, black and grey. The staff also wear different uniforms to match the bar's look.

All in all, we found the experience to be disappointing after all the hype. After all, dressing up a typical BK bar with extra gadgets, serving a couple more burgers and condiments, and slapping them together in public view, BK Whopper Bar makes the bar to be a bar, not.

was there for lunch on a monday with my colleagues.

A more high class of the usual BK outlet that you will usually find in Singapore.
Similar to the concept of Hungry Jack in Aussie, their portion of their burger is bigger than usual. It's definitely too large for me to finish the whole burger on my own that i halved it with my colleague. I ordered double mushroom swiss. never fail to cheer me up with the melting cheese together with the beef patti. Fries is so-so. did i mention, they do the burger on the spot upon your order. that's y ur burger is served hot to you.

Nice LCD screen as the menu over the counter bar. dark coloured wall paper makes the place look even more high class.

once in while indulgence. not too often. quite fattening arh. =)

saw the website and decide to go down to check out the place.

setup is like a bar with black and red colour as theme. The kitchen is open concept so that you can see how they prepare.

the whole place is only whopper and different kind of whopper. I like spicy stuff so i ordered a Double Angry Whopper Set(jalapenos, onions, Angry Sauce) which comes with fries and a 500ml Heineken.

the spiciness of the sauce is not spicy enough for me, but the patties is thicker then the ones at normal BK outlet. Taste wise it will be an upgrade version of the normal whopper, a slight upgrade perhaps.

Not bad, but not good enough to make me go down on my own again.

Went there for lunch because one of my colleague wanted to try..Was also curious to find out what's the difference between this Whopper Bar from the usual BK outlets. So 3 of us go there for our lunch.
At the entrance, you will be welcome by the posh furnishing, and I started to wonder if the only difference will be the price!
The menu is different from the usual BK outlet. They have new burgers such as angry whopper, sweet & spicy whopper, and you can also make your own burget- Have it your way!
It is definitely more pricy than the usual BK, the cheapest set, a whopper, a large fries or onion rings and a large drinks is at $8.90; But is definitely worth every cents! The beef is jucier than usual, veyr generous in the condiments..
And the ambience is nice and quiet, with LCD TV on the wall showing you the Whopper Bar around the world.
Only draw back is not a good idea to come with your date, as it is going to get very messy eating such a big burger! Maybe Whopper Bar should do what Carl Junior's did, wrapped the burger so that it is easier to handle!
