Cheap and Cheerful

I go here every few months (I've got a friends card for here) - the food is OK, nothing particularly exciting, but it is cheap and there is loads to choose from.

Today I had the Xin Wang curry noodles which were OK, the sauce was just like the curry sauce you get at most chicken curry hawker stalls, so nothing fancy, but it was only about $8.50 so not bad for an eat-in place with service.

In the past I've had various rice and noddle dishes there and they're all OK, never anything outstanding but the prices aren't outstanding either so it all evens out in the end!

I will no doubt visit again as I live nearby.

Nice dessert that I like

Thursday (3 July 08). The group (RL, AG, ET) brought me here after our music practice for a birthday treat. They also helped to cheer me up and offered their listening ears to me.

I did not have any appetite, so I only ordered a dessert. I had the Grass Jelly with Watermelon Ice again, like on a previous visit. It was a monster dessert and I liked it very much, but I would have preferred if it were less sweet and less syrup was added to it.

More late-night snacks with bad influences

Thursday (29 Nov 07). Came here with AG and SC again after our music practice. It was almost 11 PM when we arrived and there wasn't any space inside the air-conditioned area to accommodate the 3 of us, so we sat outside. That was not a problem at all, since smoking is also not allowed there. After browsing through the menu, we decided on what we wanted and our orders were served quite soon after.

I liked my Noodles with Black Pepper Beef ($8.50++) dish very much. The vegetable portion was decent. The fried egg was nice and it was not drenched in oil. The beef was certainly peppery and appetising. I also enjoyed my Fresh Lime Tea ($4.90++). It was sour and refreshing.

Late-night snacks with bad influences

Thursday (11 Oct 07). Had late-night snacks here with AG and SC after our music practice. They insisted that I come along. They are such bad influences because they made me eat more than I should. We arrived before 11 PM and the place was still more than half full, but we did manage to get a comfortable booth seat for ourselves. Our total bill came up to $23.05. We ordered:
Iced Lychee Tea, $4.90++
Xin Wang YingYong, $2.70++
Luncheon Meat 'N' Egg Sandwich, $2.90++
Special Shrimp Har Gao, $2.80++
Grass Jelly with Watermelon Ice, $4.50++
Kaya Butter Bread, $1.80++

We each had a piece of the Special Shrimp Har Gao. I would describe it as 'average, bordering on mediocre'.

My eyes lit up when my Grass Jelly with Watermelon Ice, was served. It was a mountain of shaved ice; and I could not wait to ravage the dessert. It came with 3 slices of watermelon on the sides, and with most of the grass jelly at the bottom of the bowl. It was really sweet, and it could have done with less syrup. There was a lot to eat and I was struggling with this at the end. I would recommend for at least 2 people to share this monster of a dessert.

We left just before midnight, and the place was still crowded with many people having supper.

disappoinment

went there with friends. Beverages r ok. Foods r horrible. Ordered bo lo bun and french toast. Bo lo bun has no aroma.Very disappointing. French Toast is super sweet + no aroma/fragrance.

sigh.....the foods r really below standard.They should put their hearts and souls into perfecting the dishes. The foods just tasted like they are prepared by vending machines...
